Work Text:
As far as days went, you’d had quite possibly the worst in your history.
If it wasn’t the traffic making you late for work, or customers being rude, or your heel breaking off halfway to the deli across the street during your lunch hour, it was something else ruining your day and pushing you into a sour mood. If you didn’t know better, you would have thought someone was out to get you with the amount of bad luck you’d had over the past eight hours of your work day, and now you were once again battling the onslaught of traffic on the way home. The road piled with cars on cars, each filled with someone just as eager as you to get home and sleep. It was that thought alone that prevented you from slamming your hand onto the horn and pulling your hair out in frustration.
Only just.
The weather also didn’t help your situation; the rain hammering down on the roof of your car only reminding you of the fact that dozens more people would be on the road, choosing to take public transport or taxis to prevent walking home. Even in the densely populated city you lived in, somehow there always seemed to be a steady flow of traffic instead of the standstill you were currently in. It only succeeded in forcing another groan from you as you lay back against your seat, blinking against the bright red lights of the traffic in front of you. Your windshield wipers worked hard against the rain, and you were only just able to make out the light turning green as the traffic began to very slowly creep along, cars escaping across the intersection before, of course, you were stopped by another red light hovering above your head. Taunting you, reminding you that you wouldn’t get home for another half hour at least.
The screen on your dashboard flashed up, snatching your attention as you caught sight of another text from your husband, Seokjin.
Jin❤: hey sweetheart, are you almost home?
Despite everything, you smiled, because you always did where your husband was concerned. Seokjin was the only person that kept you sane, and in moments like this, it was when you needed him most. A little ray of light to remind you not to plough your Prius through the cars ahead of you in a rage.
You: it’ll be a while :( traffic buildup in the city
You: have you cooked? Please don’t wait for me to get home before you eat. I don’t want you to be hungry :(
The light turned green, and you lurched forward, turning the corner into a road that still held more traffic than you would like, but seemed to be steadily chugging along. Perhaps you wouldn’t be home too late after all.
Jin❤: :(
Jin❤: but i wanna eat with you
Jin❤: i’m not that hungry yet anyways. hope you’re home soon. miss you :(
Seokjin was incredibly needy for your attention on the weekends. When Friday night hit, he became your baby, eager to cuddle up to you and spend an evening on the sofa watching whatever trash TV show the two of you could find. Then, the two of you would spend hours making love and talking in bed before you finally fell asleep, ready to dream your Saturday morning away together.
It was the only thing that had kept you going all day, knowing that once 5PM rolled around, you could leave the office and run straight into the arms of your perfect husband. It had been that way almost since the day you met Seokjin during your final year of college.
Seokjin had been working at the fast food joint near campus when you walked in looking for the bag your best friend had left there a few moments previously. Jin had kept it safe, returning it to you with his signature smile and a blush across the apples of his cheeks. It didn’t take long for you to become smitten with him, and you forced your best friend to visit the place he worked whenever you could, too shy to go alone. After the sixth perfectly timed run-in, Seokjin asked for your number, and since then you had been inseparable. Married almost as soon as graduation hit, your family thought perhaps it had been too soon, but it didn’t feel that way. Marrying your best friend felt like the most natural thing in the world, and now, five years later, you were still as happy as you had been that day.
By the time you took notice of the traffic, you were close to the highway that would lead you out of the city and towards the suburbs. With a deep sigh, and an uplifting sense of relief, you let your foot lay heavy on the accelerator and rolled further down the road.
-----
The house was bathed in a warm glow when you arrived, walking through the door into the welcome embrace of your home, the anxiety of the day beginning to crumble around you as your body sagged with relief. Your feet, aching and sore, seemed to sigh along with you as you kicked off your heels, too exhausted both emotionally and physically to bother tidying them away into the shoe nook under the stairs.
The creaking of the hardwood floor prompted you to turn towards the kitchen, a smile instantly gracing your features when your eyes fell upon the figure watching you with a soft smile and a hue of love in his expression.
“Hey, sweetheart,” Seokjin walked over, his socked feet barely making a sound as he padded over to you, shirt sleeves rolled up and his tie long gone. He looked laidback, boyish, so different from the hardworking COO you knew and loved. When he made it to you, his hands slotted into the well-loved space on your waist, dipped as if it were moulded to his touch after all these years, “Missed you,”
Murmuring into your lips, Seokjin kissed you like it was the first time, as he always did. Things never got old when it came to your relationship, and even as you watched your friends complain about things becoming stale in the infancy of their marriages, you and Seokjin still felt like newlyweds. His lips were soft against yours, an addictive taste of sugar and watermelon coating your tongue as he licked between your lips, deepening the kiss before he pulled back with a dazed grin.
Pouting, you allowed yourself to be babied by your husband just this once, relishing in it after the day you’d suffered through. With a whine, you burrowed your face into Seokjin’s neck, soaking up his familiar scent and losing yourself in the warmth of his arms.
“Bad day?” Your husband asked, his lips brushing your ear. When you nodded against his collarbone, he cooed softly, rubbing your back and walking you towards the sofa. “Sit down, let me feed you, then we can have a bath,”
Seokjin nudged you to sit on the sofa, and after a little more scuttling around the kitchen, dinner was in the oven and your attentive husband was on his knees before you, massaging the pain from your feet. His gentle hands smother over your aching skin, a soft moan falling from your lips each time his thumb pressed into the arch of your foot.
“I don’t know who taught you how to massage like this, but I’m already jealous of her,”
Chuckling softly under his breath, he continued his work, banishing the discomfort and summoning waves of relief and contentment to crash over your body. Every touch and every look was filled with love, with the simple desire to make his wife feel good and rested. You couldn’t help leaning forwards, wrapping your arms around his neck and pressing your lips to his again.
“You taste like candy,” He murmured, and you grinned.
“I snacked on your gummies in the car on the way home,” Nuzzling your nose with his, your grin widened when Seokjin pouted, leaving you with no other option but to kiss the frown off his face, just in time for the oven to ding - a signal that your long-awaited food was ready.
Tugging you up with him, Seokjin patted your bottom, threading his fingers with yours, “Let’s eat,”
------
The warmth of the water seeped into your muscles, a contented sigh drifting past your lips the moment you settled against Seokjin’s bare chest, situated snugly between his legs. Your hands ran along the skin of his knees as his fingers worked nimbly, kneading out the knots in your shoulders as you lost yourself in simple bliss.
“We should do this more often,” You yawned, stifling a moan when your husband’s skilled hands hit a spot that needed loosening up. Seokjin hummed in response, his voice lifting at the end, and you took that as a question, “We should do this every night,”
“We’d go through a lot of bath oil,” He sniggered, his face burrowing into your neck where he dropped kisses on the sensitive skin there, “Plus, I’d never get laid. You look ready to fall asleep already,”
Swatting his leg, he yelped, and you giggled when he retaliated by wrapping his arms around your body, fingers trailing along the soft skin of your tummy - your ticklish spot. “Don’t you dare,”
He huffed, another kiss planted on your shoulder before his arms were gone, and he was reaching around for the shower soap. Lathering it up between his palms, he began massaging your skin again, cleansing you along the way as you relaxed against his body again. Soothed by the sounds of your breathing and the occasional drip of water from the tap, you let Seokjin rub the soap across the skin of your torso. When he was done, you took over, cleaning your legs and feet before returning the favour for your sweet husband.
Once the two of you were sufficiently cleaned, you simply held each other, talking about your days and the plans for the weekend ahead. As the water began to cool, Seokjin combed through your wet hair, the ministrations almost lulling you to sleep against his chest. You only noticed that he was finished when you heard the familiar sound of the plug being pulled.
“Come on, sleepyhead,” He murmured, slipping out from behind you and grabbing the robe from the back of the door. Once he dressed himself, he collected you from the bath, wrapping you up in his arms and taking you from the near-empty tub. You were half asleep, lids heavy as you watched Seokjin wrap you in the robe with a soft expression on his face. You nestled into the fluffy material of the robe and allowed Jin to lead to you the bedroom, your body sagging into the king sized mattress moments later.
“I’m sorry I’m so sleepy,” You whispered against Seokjin’s chest. He reached over, turning off the lamp and dropping a kiss on your forehead, “I think work drained me,”
“Don’t apologise,” He replied, his voice soft and incredulous, as if he was surprised at the idea of you apologising for being tired, “besides, I’m sure we can do what I had planned in the morning anyway,”
You perked up a little then, one eye peeled open and staring at your husband’s profile, backlit by the moonlight from the window, “What did you have planned?”
“Nothing that can’t wait till tomorrow morning,” He grinned, but it was a mischievous tilt of his lips that had you sitting up, resting your weight on one elbow and giving him a blank expression once he looked over at you.
“I’m wide awake now,”
Seokjin’s head pushed back into his pillow as he let out a laugh, the boyish sound vibrating from his chest as you lunged at him, rolling around in a heap on the bed.
