Chapter Text
“Hyung!”
“Hyung! Are you listening to me?”
Yoongi was nervous. He had never been this uneasy in his whole life, which translated into him spacing out and not listening to the person who was talking to him—the person who was, in fact, the main cause of this nervousness.
The nervousness was always there whenever he spent time with Hoseok. When he had just opened his restaurant, Yoongi wasn’t able to even look at the smiley customer. Hoseok would visit once a week and ask for a different pizza flavor every time. Even though Yoongi was dying to get to know his new favorite customer (I’m so sorry, Namjoon), if Yoongi waited the whole week for the day Hoseok decided to treat himself to a nice pizza, the cook’s shy personality made their conversations consist of Hoseok asking for a specific pizza flavor, and Yoongi asking about the paying method. Yoongi even considered adding new flavors to his menu to make sure Hoseok kept coming, thinking that he would stop going after tasting the whole menu. The younger, being the social butterfly that he is, eventually started asking more questions and making comments about the weather, to which Yoongi tried his best to answer, always with a slight blush to his face.
Yoongi knew that moving to Seoul would turn his life around. He knew things would be completely different in the city: he didn’t have anyone but Namjoon to help him so it would be a huge responsibility. However, he did not expect to fall in love with someone. Hoseok appeared in his life like a ray of sunshine. He was all smiles, laughs, a loud voice, and bright personality. Even though he would always hang out at the restaurant after work, often drained out of energy, Hoseok would come into the restaurant causing a riot, turning every head towards his direction and making Yoongi genuinely happy. Hoseok was his sun, his battery, a real breath of fresh air.
This morning, several months after he’d move into Seoul, he woke up and decided it was finally time for him to confess. He and Hoseok had been dancing around each other for a few months now. He could only suppose Hoseok liked him back, as he had accepted going on every date, wanted to spend time with him apart from the time he spent actually eating in the restaurant, and would often compliment him. Namjoon even said that Hoseok was obviously whipped for him. His best friend elbowed him every time Hoseok laughed too hard at one of his jokes, and then, when the two friends were alone, Namjoon would say: “hyung, I swear you’re not that funny, Hoseok-hyung is just flirting.” Yoongi would deny it every time, trying to fight the smile that escaped his lips.
”I’m sorry, I got lost in a thought….” Yoongi replied quietly.
His confession had one problem, though. As much as Hoseok encouraged his advances, he didn’t reject some else’s.
Kim Seokjin’s advances to be specific.
If Hoseok came over to his pizza restaurant for dinner two times a week, Yoongi knew that Seokjin had a special breakfast for Hoseok every single day of the week, and Hoseok never missed it. The baker next door had been Hoseok’s friend for years now. In the beginning, Yoongi thought they had something going on. The only way he could describe it was as magnetism. It was evident in the way they were always clinging on to one another. In the way they were always teasing each other. The way personal space basically did not exist between them.
The way Seokjin looked at Hoseok when he wasn’t paying attention.
Kim Seokjin had years of advantage. Yoongi would never catch up.
“Tell me what’s on your mind, hyung. You’ve been spacing out the whole night”. Hoseok reached to caress his hand. He looked at Yoongi with earnest eyes and the smallest pout, showing his sincere concern.
Fuck it.
Fuck Kim Seokjin. He had all the years before Yoongi’s arrival to Seoul to confess. Yoongi couldn’t just wait and see how someone else was trying to date the boy he liked. He was tired of being the nice guy. Yoongi would never know Hoseok’s feelings if he didn’t take the first step. He couldn’t keep on feeding his expectations about a life with Hoseok if he never took the risk and confessed his feelings. Of course, the risk was high. He could lose a very important friendship, one of the few he had in this new city. But Seoul was a second chance to live his life, so he would be selfish and live it as he wanted. With the man he wanted. If that man accepted him, obviously.
Yoongi took a deep breath and flipped his hand so it would hold Hoseok’s smaller hand in his. The younger boy gasped almost inaudibly. Yoongi had never been big on PDA, he never initiated affection, he had always been too self-conscious about it. Therefore whatever he was going to say, Hoseok now knew it was something important.
“Hoseok, what are we?”
