“Just one more!” Huaisang pleads, his grip tight at the back of Jiang Cheng’s neck.
Jiang Cheng rolls his eyes, but he obliges, kissing Huaisang. He swallows his eager moans, and he would stay here forever if he could, but he has to get back to Lotus Pier. Jin Zixuan is bringing Jin Ling for a visit as Jiejie prepares to welcome their second child, and he absolutely has to be there for his family. He breaks the kiss and tries to sit back, but Huaisang clings to him.
“One more, the last one, I promise!”
Jiang Cheng kisses the end of Huaisang’s nose.
“That’s not what I meant, A-Cheng.” Huaisang pouts, but relents, loosening his grip on Jiang Cheng.
“You’ll see me in two weeks,” Jiang Cheng reminds him. “Or you could come with me now.”
Huaisang sighs and steps away from Jiang Cheng. “I can’t. Not ‘til Da-ge returns.”
Jiang Cheng tamps down the familiar ache that comes each time they part. They knew it would be difficult, dividing their time among their sects, especially after Mingjue and Xichen publicly declared their intent to marry. It took time, and so many meetings, to work out intricacies of aligning the sects, but it was worth it to see Xichen looking alive again, to see Mingjue calm and happy, when the war had taken so much.
Jiang Cheng smiles at his beloved and kisses him once more. “You know I wouldn’t care if I was just keeping the Peacock Prince waiting, but I can’t do that to Jin Ling.”
Huaisang wraps his arms round Jiang Cheng and squeezes. “I know,” he mutters, looking away, “I know.” He holds tight for a minute more before releasing Jiang Cheng to his obligations. “I’ll miss you.”
“I’ll miss you, too.” He steals another kiss. “One more,” he says.
Huaisang kisses him back. “One more.”
