Huaisang’s favorite color is green. Forest and emerald and sharp flicks of neon across his eyelids when he’s feeling bold. It looks damn good on him, and he knows it.
But one shade does not suit him, and he’s positively covered in it as he watches that grimy little troll Su She paw Jiang Cheng as he stands in line to be snacks for the movie. The final straw, however, comes when Jiang Cheng laughs at something Su She says. He laughs, genuine and carefree, head thrown back, eyes crinkled and mouth open. His Jiang Cheng, who cannot hide his emotions, who has only ever shown this skulking buffoon scorn and irritation, is amused!
This green does not suit Huaisang, but at this moment, he positively glows.
He tucks their movie tickets into his pocket, sneaks a quick glance at his reflection in the mirrors behind the counter, and threads through the crowd to plant himself at Jiang Cheng’s side.
“I would have given anything to see that,” Jiang Cheng says.
“I’m sure someone filmed it. I’ll send you the video,” Su She replies. He swipes across his screen. “Oh, hey, I don’t think I have your number. Could you—“
Huaisang has heard enough. He tugs the lapel of Jiang Cheng’s jacket and kisses away his greeting. He kisses Jiang Cheng with familiar ease and holds onto him longer than is polite, but he can’t find it in him to care. He does feel a sliver of guilt when he notices Su She has gone pale or that Jiang Cheng’s got that tight little smile he puts on when he’s uncomfortable. He’s on the verge of apologizing when their turn to order comes. He offers his brightest smile.
“Are you going to see the Ms. Marvel movie, too?” he asks, taking out his wallet. He waves away Jiang Cheng’s hand. “Popcorn’s on me. And of course your cherry icee, A-Cheng.”
Huaisang’s eternally grateful when Su She makes his excuses and joins his friend for the new horror flick because he’s so looking forward to replacing the green with the delightful red now staining Jiang Cheng’s tongue.
