Work Text:
Hitoshi was upset.
The 5 year old was informed that he was getting a sibling, and he was not happy about that.
Shouta and Hizashi were his parents, not anyone else’s. He didn’t want to share.
...He didn’t want to be left alone again.
The boy has his arms crossed and a pout on his lips as he sits against his locked bedroom door, not letting his Pops in who was waiting patiently on the other side. Dad and Pops told Hitoshi weeks ago about the adoption- and today was the day they were bringing the new kid home. Dad had to go out on his own while Pops handled damage control- aka making sure Hitoshi would be okay.
As much as the parents respected the fact that Hitoshi didn’t want another sibling, the parents also very much wanted more kids. This was just something they had to work on- make sure Hitoshi knew he wasn’t getting left in the dust.
They promised they wouldn’t leave Hitoshi, and they intend to keep that promise.
The two parents settled on getting another five year old, and it took time but they found a perfect match for their purple boy. Or at least, they hoped it would be. Because they also fell in love with the kid they met. It would be hard to find any other kid after meeting this one- attachment is one hell of a thing.
Hitoshi blocked out his Pops’ attempts at getting through to him a few minutes ago, lost in his own spiraling thoughts until the sound of the front door unlocking snapped him out of it. He frowns deeply when hearing his Pops move away from his door, an empty feeling settling in his chest. The 5 year old stands up slowly, reaching up to his doorknob and unlocking it. He peeks out hesitantly, squinting when hearing soft-spoken voices.
He can sorta see his Dad from his room, standing in the living room with a bundle of blankets in his arms. Or well, not blankets- but more like another kid buried in a large blanket. The bundle shuffles as Hitoshi stares it down, his parents not noticing his gaze quite yet.
Suddenly the top of the bundle opens, and green eyes meet his own purple ones. Hitoshi freezes, especially when the kid’s face reveals itself fully.
There’s freckles scattered across the boy’s face, and his head is covered in black and green curls. But the most confusing thing to Hitoshi- yet most adorable, were the large bunny ears perking up and swerving around.
Hitoshi lets out a squeak as soon as he realizes his parents are also now staring at him, quickly retreating into his room and shutting the door. He tenses up when hearing footsteps get closer to his door, and quickly retreats underneath his bed.
“Kid…” He curses in his head- Not a naughty word, just a made up naughty word- when realizing he didn’t lock his door- and pouts at the sound of the door opening. His Dad walks in followed by his Pops, and he knows that the kid is there too- still settled in Dad’s arms.
“Hon?” Hitoshi refuses to answer to his Pops’ concerned voice, frowning deeply and hiding his face in his arms.
It goes silent, which is confusing- considering his parents would’ve tried to talk him out from underneath the bed by now. He risks peeking up from his arms, letting out a noise of surprise when he’s met with a chubby face staring him down. Those ears are perked up and his eyes are wide in curiosity. The bun’s head tilts, and his lil hand is tapping against the carpeted floor in Hitoshi’s direction.
How did his parents put him right there so quietly?
Hitoshi huffs and blows a raspberry rudely at the kid, but in return the kid lets out a delighted giggle and starts tapping his other hand against the floor. Hitoshi pouts deeply, feeling somewhat offended that his action was laughed at. He looks away from the lingering eyes staring him down, trying to ignore the bunny. However it’s a failure when his own eyes widen at the sight of only one bunny leg. The kid… Only had one leg.
Where did the other one go..?
Hitoshi doesn’t even think about it when he reaches out and grabs the boy by the shoulders, pulling him further under the bed. The bunny lets out a surprised squeak and fidgets when Hitoshi turns him around, staring down at his one bunny leg that now thumps against the floor anxiously.
“Be gentle.” His Dad warns, and Hitoshi flinches. Right.
He has this feeling in his chest that he should still be upset- but it gets harder and harder to believe that’s truly the way he’s feeling right now the more he looks at the boy. The boy that looks so innocent and completely oblivious to Hitoshi’s thoughts on having a sibling.
..And this boy was in an orphanage before too.. Just as Hitoshi was. Yet Hitoshi still has both of his legs.
He felt terrible all of a sudden.
The purple haired boy startles at the chittering noise that escapes the bunny boy, squinting when he grabs his own hand and points towards the room. He didn’t wanna be underneath the bed any more.
Hitoshi just shakes his head, forcing his hand out of the boy’s and shuffling away. His eyes are tearing up and he lets out a whine. This doesn’t go unnoticed by the bunny, who starts thumping his foot against the ground in distress- ears flopping down in worry.
Pops is quick to scoop up the bun when the boy reaches out from underneath the bed, shushing him softly when he whines and tucks his head underneath his chin. The parent stands and leaves the room, leaving Aizawa to handle their stressed out son.
The man crouches down, looking underneath the bed and frowning softly at his son who cries quietly into his arms. Aizawa’s concern furthers when he hears a soft ‘I’m sorry, I’m sorry-’ come from the kid.
“Kiddo you wanna come here for me..?” Shouta says gently, laying a hand underneath for the kid to take when he was ready.
It takes a few minutes, but eventually Aizawa feels the small hand take his own- and the boy slowly but surely shuffles his way out from underneath the bed. Hitoshi shoves his face into Aizawa’s side, and the man wraps his arms around the boy securely.
They don’t talk for a long period of time, the only sound being Aizawa’s quiet reassurances to the boy who sniffles.
“Dad…?” Hitoshi mumbles finally, and Aizawa hums in response. “You… You and Pops won’t leave me..?”
Aizawa pulls back slightly from the hug, taking Hitoshi’s face into one of his hands and turning it so Hitoshi’s eyes meet his own. “Never.” He offers a small smile, “I promise. And I can bet that Hizashi does too. He’d be way too emotional if he had to leave you, you know that.”
Hitoshi’s eyes water and he raises a tiny hand to place on Aizawa’s bigger one. “What’s um.. What’s his name..?”
The man tugs Hitoshi up into his arms with one swoop, standing up from the floor as he does. “Izuku.” He responds, walking towards the door of the room and opening it up. He pauses before exiting, looking down to the boy and tilting his head. “We’ll never do anything to make you intentionally upset, and we will always be here for you, Hitoshi. Okay?” The boy nods into his chest, fist gripping onto the shirt. “Have anything else you’re upset about before we go and say hi?”
Hitoshi turns his head up to his Dad with bleary eyes. “His… Leg?”
“He was born without it, kiddo.” Aizawa hums, watching as Hitoshi relaxes somewhat.
“O-Okay…” Then there’s a sudden spark of determination, and Hitoshi squints his eyes. “I wanna see him..”
Aizawa smiles fondly, adjusting his hold on his son and making his way towards the living room.
He has a good son- or well, he has good sons. He thinks as he turns the corner into the living room and spots Izuku on the couch squealing happily at Hizashi ruffling his hair.
Dad places Hitoshi down onto the couch when Izuku spots them both, the bunny boy’s smile not fading but turning wobbly as he tilts his head cautiously and curiously at his purple haired sibling. They both stare at each other for a long minute, making Hizashi and Shouta share a worried look. That is until Izuku scoots himself over and drapes himself over Hitoshi’s legs. The boy who was now being used as a bed squeaks in surprise, but doesn’t make any effort to push the bright eyed boy off. His hands just awkwardly hover above Izuku, not knowing what to do.
But later that night, when they’re all settled on the couch watching T.V. and helping Izuku get settled properly in- Hitoshi and Izuku cuddle close with their Dads on either side of them. It’s a cute sight, Izuku’s leg thumping happily against the couch as his new brother runs a hand through his fluffy hair.
Aizawa and Hizashi interlock their hands on top of the behind of the couch, Hizashi giving Aizawa’s hand a comforting squeeze. They share a look that carries relief and fondness for the two between them, not a regret in sight for adopting them.
They would be okay.
Three months later, Hitoshi comes home from school with Izuku. The bunny boy had a prosthetic leg, one specially designed for his bunny mutation. Yet, whenever he gets home he’s very quick to take it off- and as much as Aizawa and Hizashi wants the boy to practice on his prosthetic- they couldn’t take away the happiness Izuku gets from getting down on all fours-, er, threes, and bouncing around the home. He’s gotten used to using his one leg- since it’s really all he has ever known.
He can’t exactly be on all threes in public however, as much as he wants to.
The prosthetic helped him get to class normally, however the kid broke the prosthetic several times in his own hyperactivity. He bangs the prosthetic against his desk in over excitement, using it as he would his real leg. Usually the prosthetic wouldn’t be so easily breakable- however they were still figuring out what worked best for the bun.
The most recent prosthetic was working really well, it may be a keeper- as long as Izuku doesn’t slam it against a wall.
Izuku takes the prosthetic off right when he walks through the door, not seeing the amused looks from his parents and Hitoshi behind him. The bun leans down and tries to bolt to his and Hitoshi’s room, but Hizashi is quick to grab him around the stomach- making the bun squeal. “Not yet, Thumper!” His Pops holds the squirming Izuku to his chest and Dad lets out a snort. “You have homework to do, bun bun.”
Izuku and Hitoshi both had simple homework- of course, but Izuku had a lil bit of extra in order to help him keep up. It wasn’t that the bunny wasn’t smart- he was, very much so. But he got easily distracted and during class he has trouble retaining anything the teacher teaches. At home it’s easier, his Dads know how to handle the rambunctious lil ball of energy.
Hitoshi however, is the only one that can get Izuku to go to sleep early. Hitoshi is also the only one that can get Izuku to finish his homework completely. If Izuku sees Hitoshi doing his homework, Izuku will do it too. If Izuku sees Hitoshi going to bed early, he’ll follow close behind so he can get bedtime Cuddles. Plus, if Hitoshi forgets to brush his teeth one night then Izuku does too. Aizawa and Hizashi have to remind Hitoshi to brush.
After homework is finished, Izuku and Hitoshi get to play video games while Dinner gets made. It’s a friday night, which means they’ll most likely watch movies and stay up late. It’s Izuku’s favorite day,- that and the weekend itself. There’s no school, and it’s all family time and cuddles. As well as running around the home on all threes without any judgement.
Sometimes Izuku gets instincts to burrow, which means he can be found in the closet quite often- underneath Aizawa and Hizashi’s clothing that was originally hanging up- but, well, not any more. The parents deal with it, even if it means there’s bunny hair from the boy’s ears and leg- all over their clothing.
It’s not as bad as the cats’ fur, honestly.
Izuku liked to chase the cats- or be chased by the cats. He was faster, but by the end of the chase he can be found cuddling the cats on their bed.
In short, Izuku is adorable and hyperactive.
Hitoshi, who originally was against a sibling- grew overly attached to his adopted brother. There wasn’t anything to dislike about the kind hearted boy with overly bright eyes. And honestly, putting in the energy to hate a boy who has huge bunny ears? Too much work.
Sometimes he feels as if he gets jealous, but that jealousy is quickly gone when he finds himself always wanting to be near Izuku as well. It would be hypocritical to judge his own Parents for wanting to spend time with someone so good.
Plus, his parents never neglected Hitoshi’s need for affection. It was healthy- and Hitoshi couldn’t be happier.
School used to be an issue, both Izuku and himself getting bullied for different reasons. Hitoshi tried hiding the fact that he was bullied- but that was hard when Izuku came home distressed and anxious. Seeing this, and knowing it wasn’t healthy for the bun- Hitoshi confessed to his parents what was happening. They were quick to move schools after that- switching to a school where Aizawa and Hizashi knew people already that went there.
Tensei’s baby brother would be a good example. Iida Tenya was in their class, and he made friends with the two- being a good ‘bodyguard’ of sorts if anyone dared to pick on them.
It was nice.
Hitoshi feels a poking at his side, and raises an eyebrow over at Izuku who dropped his switch controller on the couch in favor of nudging Hitoshi. Those big baby eyes widen when he finally gets his Brother’s attention, and an excited chitter escapes his lips. Hitoshi smiles because he can’t help it, placing his own controller off to the side and wrapping his arms around the bunny boy. They both lay down, arms wrapped tightly and comfortably around each other.
Hizashi and Aizawa don’t comment on why the game was suddenly paused, instead continuing chatting and cooking in the kitchen. Aizawa was barely helping- as he was busy grading papers, but Hizashi appreciated what help that was offered regardless.
It was all very domestic, and none of them would trade it for the world.
“Hey Toshi…” Izuku squeaks out, voice light and shy as he speaks.
Hitoshi tilts his head from where it’s buried in Izuku’s curly hair- “Mhmm..?”
“I love you..”
“I love you too, zuzu.”
Izuku merely squeaks again in delight, leg thumping against the couch.
Hizashi has to resist letting out a squeal of his own when hearing this, and Aizawa doesn’t even hide his smile.
Yeah, Domestic.
