Work Text:

When Taehyung had set up a midnight picnic on the rooftop of their dorm for Jimin, he couldn’t have anticipated the night’s turn of events.

It had been a hard day at practice and after seeing the defeated, sad look on his best friend’s face, Taehyung decided that a special, platonic (or maybe not so platonic) date was in order.

The night was perfect, not a single cloud in the sky and just a gentle breeze making its way over the city. Taehyung set up a giant, fluffy blanket with an armful of pillows and smaller blankets to help them fight the temperature as it cooled. He brought two bottles of Jimin’s favorite mango juice and some fresh chocolate chip cookies he’d bought from the nearby bakery. Two candle lanterns gave them enough light to see but kept the area dark enough that the stars would be visible.

Taehyung dragged a reluctant and pouty Jimin up to the rooftop after he’d finished showering. It was totally worth running up and down the flights of stairs multiple times just to see the priceless look on Jimin’s face.

His best friend’s eyes widened as he took in the scene, glossing over with held back tears. Jimin turned to him with a surprised but happy look on his face. “What’s all this for?”

Taehyung grinned, “You need cuddles and love so...” he trailed off with a shy shrug.

“It’s beautiful, Tae,” Jimin said as his eyes flickered back to the setup. “You always know exactly what I need.”

“Well, what are soulmates for?” Taehyung grabbed him by the hand once more and dragged him over to the blanket. “Here, get yourself comfortable and we can have our snacks!”

Jimin didn’t hesitate to comply, a fond smile on his lips as the other ruffled through a picnic basket. He pulled one of the smaller blankets around his shoulders and fluffed up a few of their pillows behind them.

“Where’d you even get that?” Jimin questioned, tilting his head at the picnic basket made of woven wood and covered in a sheen of pink sparkles. “It’s so...”

“Cliche? Overdone?” Tae finished as he pulled out the juice and cookies from said basket. He grinned his stupid boxy smile that never failed to make Jimin melt into a puddle of goo. “I know. It’s Jin-hyung’s, though.”

“Ah, now it makes sense.”

The two of them giggled as they munched on the tasty cookies and sipped at the juice.

A few minutes later, the food finished, Taehyung and Jimin laid back on the blanket and pillows and curled up together just like they always did. It was almost physically impossible for the two of them to be in the same room as each other and not be touching in some way.

Sides pressed together, they admired the moon shining in the sky and the stars that were twinkling surprisingly brightly that night.

Without really knowing why, after some time Taehyung turned to look at Jimin, only to find him staring right back at him. Now their eyes were locked on each other and they couldn’t seem to tear their gazes away.

Neither knew who first leaned in - perhaps it was simply both of them - but suddenly their lips were touching and their eyelids were slipping shut.

Taehyung couldn’t help but think how different Jimin’s lips were from the lips of anyone he’d kissed before - drastically different. Jimin’s lips were plush and naturally soft, a stark contrast to the sticky, lip gloss lips of the girl he’d kissed when he was fourteen, and the rough, chapped lips of the young man he’d drunkenly kissed just a year or two ago at an after-party. Jimin’s lips simply felt perfect, but perhaps he was a tiny bit biased.

The two of them pulled apart from the chaste kiss and their eyes met, saying so much more than their words ever could.

Then Jimin reached up and cupped Taehyung’s face in his small hands, smiling fondly before leaning in and pressing their lips together once more.

Taehyung’s hands naturally gravitated towards Jimin’s slim waist, his long fingers almost immediately digging into the soft skin. The younger pulled Jimin closer, easily tugging him until he was seated in his lap. This made the angle for their kiss much easier.

Jimin went without a fight, wrapping his legs around Taehyung’s waist and his arms slipping over the younger man’s shoulders. The two continued to kiss sensually, gentle and unhurried. Sometimes their smiles would interrupt the kissing, but neither could help it when they both just felt so happy.

When they finally pulled apart a while later, it was only because both Taehyung and Jimin could feel themselves getting worked up. They were both becoming hard in their sweatpants and neither one wanted to go further just yet. So, reluctantly, their lips parted from each other. They kept their faces close still and smiled fondly at each other.

Taehyung removed one of his hands from Jimin’s waist so he could run the pad of his thumb over the older man’s baby soft cheeks, over the small breakouts on his jawline. He admired him quietly, just taking in the way his best friend looked right now - lips swollen and a slightly darker pink than natural.

Meanwhile, Jimin was doing the same thing. He admired the dark curls of hair the fell over Taehyung’s ears and forehead, allowing his fingers to run through the soft locks at his nape. He marveled at the dark chocolate orbs that always held such emotion in them and he felt like he could get lost in.

“You know,” Taehyung started, coughing gently to clear his throat when his voice caught. “You know...I really love you, Jiminie.”

“I love you, too.”

“No, I -” Taehyung swallowed, though not nervously. “You’re my best friend and you’ll always be my best friend...but I love you, Jiminie.

Jimin felt the corners of his lips tug upwards until he was fully smiling. “And I love you the same way, dummy.”

Taehyung’s eyes widened and he grinned joyfully. “Yeah?”

Jimin nodded, “Yeah.”

The two spent the following few hours holding each other closely and stealing kisses from their smiling lips. They didn’t define their relationship yet, and they didn’t feel the need to. Neither of them knew what the future held for them - a future that was so uncertain considering their careers - but they knew they loved each other. They knew it wouldn’t be easy, not in the slightest, but they had each other and they knew they would have the support of their bandmates and families as well, and that was enough.

Notes:

So this is the shortest thing I’ve written but I felt like it didn’t really need to be long.

P.S. I have a requested HobiXBTS littlspace drabble in the works still, so please just know that I haven’t forgotten about it! I won’t make any promises as to when it will be out, but it will be the next thing I post :)
