Work Text:
Kaidou and Kuboyasu sat comfortably on Kuboyasu’s bedroom floor. Together they were reading manga, occasionally stopping to chat about whatever came to mind.
Kaidou, at some point, had started leaning on Kuboyasu, and just stayed there.
Kuboyasu wasn’t complaining.
As much as Kuboyasu tried to hide it, he couldn’t take his eyes off the blue-haired boy. Something about how he looked so at peace, and there was something so loving about the way they were seated. An unspoken trust.
All he wanted was to wrap his arms around Kaidou, and protect him from his 'dark reunion'.
Kuboyasu eventually ended up fantasising about being Kaidou’s knight in shinning armour. After about 10 minutes, Kaidou turned back to him and frowned. God, it was adorable.
“You haven’t turned the page of your manga in 10 minutes. Is something the matter?” Kaidou asked caringly.
Kaidou pursed his lips together. God, they looked so soft. If only he could touch them. He turned a little pink at the thought.
Then, he had an idea.
“Actually, I do have a question.” He told a relaxed Kaidou, who had gone back to reading.
“Go ahead,” Kaidou mumbled, clearly absorbed in his reading.
“Well I just want to know, have you had your first kiss yet?” Kuboyasu asked curiously.
Kaidou froze against him.
“How can you say that word so carelessly?!” Kaidou half yelled at Kuboyasu, jumping a full 3ft away from him.
Kuboyasu laughed a little at his reaction. “It’s just a question. So yes or no?” He continued, smirking a little at Kaidou’s bright red face.
“Well I- It’s not like I’m inexperienced but-I haven’t really found the right person either- no, I haven’t you know… k-kissed anyone yet.” Kaidou mumbled, embarrassed.
Kuboyasu pondered for a moment. “I haven’t kissed anyone either. It’s kinda pathetic, isn’t it? We’re both in year 12. What if an extremely experienced girl takes interest in us, we need to know how to kiss her back.” He said a little rushed.
Kaidou furrowed his brows at him a little. “What are you trying to say?” He questioned.
Kuboyasu blushed a bit. “I mean, just as a little practice, do you maybe want to kiss?” He uttered unconfidently.
Kaidou made a sound like a mouse squeaking.
“Like completely platonic, and just for experience of course. We just want to know how to do it for when we need to.” Kuboyasu continued rushing, worried Kaidou would be put off by him forever.
They were in an awkward silence in the air.
“Ok, why not?” Kaidou spoke, breaking the silence.
“Great! I mean as in great we are both consenting. Without consent it’s bad. Like only consent for kissing of course. Nothing bad and more.” Kuboyasu stuttered through.
Kaidou giggled at his friend’s nervousness.
Slowly, Kaidou looked up to meet Kuboyasu’s intense stare. He leant forward, flicking his eyes shut, placing his hand across Kuboyasu’s chest.
Kuboyasu felt the hand on his heart and wondered if Kaidou could feel how fast his heart was beating.
They moved in sync, closer, closer, until their lips were just touching.
Kuboyasu moved forward a little, feeling how soft his lips were.
It lasted barely a couple seconds, but those seconds seem to stretch out forever. All the boys wanted to do was to stay in that position forever.
Something in the air had changed. There was a sort of hunger that hadn’t been there before.
And then it was over. Neither knew who ended it, neither knew who pulled away first.
Kuboyasu stared right at Kaidou, and he touched his lips. Had that really happened? Was it all just a dream?
Kaidou bit his lips. He didn’t want to get rid of the feeling of it. The feeling of Kuboyasu. Then he smiled.
“You don’t even have to practice kissing. That was… great.”
Kuboyasu laughed at the air of awkwardness to his words. “You too. At least we’ll know we won’t completely disgust girls with our technique.”
But behind these words were sadness.
Both boys had realised the only person they wanted to kiss in the future was each other.
