Work Text:

The school bell rang, signifying the end of classes.

“Hey Deku!” Katsuki said. Izuku flinched at the nickname as Katsuki strolled down the aisle.

“We ain’t done here,” he said with a sinister smirk. He leafed through the notebook, his smirk growing wider and wider.

“What’s that, Katsuki?” one of his lackeys asked.

“Hero Analysis for My Future?” another read the cover out loud then guffawed. The others followed laughing.

“G-give it back,” Izukus said meekly.

Katsuki was about to give it back when he slammed his other hand over the notebook, burning it with an explosion. Izuku shrieked out loud, his precious notebook now burnt and torn.

“Why?” was the only word Izuku managed to croak out. Katsuki gave a ‘hmph’ before throwing the notebook outside the window.

“The best heroes show signs of greatness,” he started, “They showed signs of greatness even when they were students.” He slowly walked forward and clapped his hand over Izuku’s shoulder, burning it slightly with his quirk.

“I’ll be the first and only hero to come from this crappy school. What can I say, I’m just a perfectionist,” he leaned forward, the sinister smirk never leaving his face.

“In other words, don’t you dare apply to U.A.” and with that, Katsuki let go of his shoulder and walked out to the door with his cronies.

“Oh, and one more thing, Deku,” he popped explosions on his hand. “If you want to get a quirk, how about you take a swan dive off the roof and wish for one.” He howled out as he left and his lackeys followed suit. Izuku was left alone with his fist shaking in anger.

‘Idiot, what would you think if I really jumped off the roof. Think before you speak,’ Izuku angrily thought as he took his notebook at the pond.

‘That’s not fish food. Give back my notebook, stupid fishes.’

He walked aimlessly with his head bowed down.

‘Maybe he’s right. I should just finish it by taking a swan dive off the roof,’ he thought as he walked through a tunnel. Behind him, a big pile of sludge with big eyes and sharp teeth slipped through the manhole and suddenly engulfed him with his body.

‘W-W-What?!’ Izuku was surprised as he tried to free himself from the slime.

“A medium-sized bodysuit? You’ll do good. Thank you for helping me. Just give me 45 seconds to hijack your body and you’ll be my hero,” the sludge villain said.

Izuku tried to scrape the slime off to no avail.

“Hahaha, my body is made of liquid. You can’t do anything to me,” he taunted.

Slowly, Izuku gave up. No longer struggling, he accepted his fate.

Pathetic

Useless

Deku

I’m sorry!

“Oho? You stopped struggling, that’ll be easier.”

Izuku only cried. His life was about to end, he released the imaginary rope he was grabbing on to live. He was about to close his eyes when he heard a voice in his head.

“Giving up now? Don’t you want to be a hero?”

The voice was dark, but not evil. It didn’t sound sinister, but calm.

‘Yes,’ he thought. ‘I want to become a hero!’

“Then show me!”

And that he did, Izuku regained fervor. He tried to free his arms from the sludge and managed to get one out. He tried to reach out to the sun and closed his fist as if he was trying to grab it. But this was all he needed to do. He felt a tingling sensation on his body. It became stronger as it enveloped his body.

And then…

He suddenly disappeared.

As if he never existed.

“Wha?” the sludge villain asked before hearing a manhole blowing up behind him. He turned around and saw All Might rearing back a punch.

“Oh crud,” was all the sludge villain said.

With Izuku:

Izuku opened his eyes to see nothing but purple and black everywhere.

‘Where am I?’ he thought.

As if to answer his questions. A large mass of purple and black swirled in front of him. It died down to see a vague humanoid figure with wings on his back and horns to what was supposed to be his head. The mass’s eyes were bright and yellow as his sharp white teeth were shown as he gave a large smirk.

“Who are you?” Izuku asked.

“Tell me, boy. Do you want to be a hero?” The figure asked.

“W-What?”

“Answer me, boy!” he roared out.

“Y-yes!” the boy squeaked out.

“Well then, I can give you power but at a cost. Will you accept it?”

Izuku thought of his question long and hard. Does he really want to be a hero? Can he do it? The determination in his eyes was blazing brightly as he made his decision.

“Yes! I want to become a hero to save people with a smile,” he grinned.

“Very well. You are now my avatar, boy. Become a hero with the power of the abyss to defeat your enemies and save the lives of those in danger!” the figure proudly declared. That was all it took for Izuku to drop all fours and cry. It took a while, but Izuku stood up and faced the figure once more.

“Thank you, Sir,” he sniffed. “B-b-but, who are you?”

“I had many names throughout my time, but only one is what I will truly call myself.”

“And that name is…”
