Chapter Text

Dragging himself into the apartment he shared with Clay, Apollo pulled his tie loose and sighed a bit, dropping his bag by the front door. He had a long day in court and wanted nothing more than to lay down on the couch and take a nap, but he still had a lot of reading to do on the case he was prosecuting and there was still evidence to sort through and decide what was necessary to the case. Clay was still out of the apartment to rehearse for an upcoming show, so Apollo was going to take advantage of the quiet and work on getting things sorted out.

Grabbing the casefile and everything that went with it, Apollo made his way into the kitchen and placed it down on the table before he made his way back over to the coffee maker and began to brew himself some coffee. He snorted a bit when he remembered the time that Clay had told him he seemed to run on anger and caffeine when he had to be in court. Which wasn’t a total lie, if Apollo thought about it he did seem to down more coffee when he was in court facing off against that infuriating defense attorney, Klavier Gavin.

Mr. Wright had told him to just keep his focus on the case and keep pushing for a guilty verdict. Though, it was kind of hard when the defense openly flirted with him and gave a shit eating grin when he disproved the prosecution's claims. Apollo could play the same game, besides. With everything he’d found today, he was sure he was going to get the court to rule in his favor tomorrow.

Pouring himself a mug of coffee when the coffee machine finished brewing Apollo hummed and took a drink, moving to sit back at the table and go over all the information he had on the case. He looked up when he heard the door open, leaning back enough to peek out into the entryway. He smiled softly when he saw Clay step through the door, leaning his guitar case against the wall as he slipped his shoes off. Standing up, Apollo left his work and coffee abandoned on the table and went to greet the other.

“About time you came home.” Apollo hummed, hugging the other.

“Eh, rehearsal ran longer than I thought it would. We wanted to make sure everything sounded good.” Clay replied, hugging Apollo in return.

“But the good thing is, we’re all ready and prepared for the gig tomorrow!” He added, the familiar excited sparkle twinkling in Clay’s eye.

“You’ll be there, won’t you ‘Pollo?” He asked.

“I’m gonna try to, if the trial doesn’t run any longer than it has to. We hit a plot twist that neither of us were prepared for so both of us had to investigate some more. I’m going over all the information I managed to collect today.” Apollo told him, humming a bit as he looked up to his boyfriend.

“It’s been a pain in the ass, but...I think I may have this one in the bag.” He added, pulling out of Clay’s hold.

“Aren’t you going against Klavier Gavin?” Clay asked, following Apollo back into the kitchen.

Apollo sighed and sat down, nodding. “Unfortunately…” He sighed. “He’s infuriating, always knocking my claims to the ground and stomping on them.” He added.

“You hungry, sunshine?” Clay asked, leaning down and pressing a kiss to Apollo’s temple.

Apollo blushed at the nickname and nodded, humming some. “I was thinking about what to cook for dinner, but with everything that’s happened I really just considered ordering pizza.” He admitted, blushing some.

“Pizza sounds good, let me dig out the menu and we can order.” Clay said, crossing the kitchen to dig through one of their drawers.

Watching Clay for a moment, Apollo leaned on his hand before he turned his attention back to the casefile on the table in front of him. He tapped his pencil against the notepad in front of him before he leaned back and shuffled through the photos again. He used small arrow stickers to point to stuff he’d spotted in the photos, jotting down small descriptions to pair with them on the notepad in front of him. He rubbed at his eyes a bit before he picked up the mug on the table and took a drink, sighing some. He looked up when he heard Clay snort, finding the other standing with an amused smile on his face.

“What?” Apollo asked, blinking a bit as he looked at Clay.

“Pollo, it’s like...7 PM and you’re drinking coffee.” He laughed.

“And..?” Apollo asked. “Your point is?”

“You run on anger and caffeine.” Clay said.

Apollo stared the other down for a long moment before looking down to the mug in his hands, a blush slowly rising to his face the longer he stared. He placed the coffee mug on the table and glanced away with a mutter of ‘I do not run on caffeine and anger’, looking back down to the file spread across the table. Deciding to call it a night on organizing his evidence, Apollo shuffled everything back into its proper place and stood up, sighing a bit as he stretched out. He pushed the chair in with his foot and made his way back over to his bag to put the file away. Sighing a bit as he stood up, he ran a hand through his hair before he popped his head in the kitchen where Clay was putting the clean dishes from their dishwasher away.

“I’m gonna take a quick shower, if you haven’t ordered yet just go ahead and get our usual.” He told him.

He watched Clay give a thumbs up in response before he pushed off the door frame and made his way back to the bedroom he shared with his boyfriend. Grabbing his pajamas from where they lay on the foot of the bed, Apollo made his way into the bathroom and placed them on the counter, reaching in and starting the water. Hanging his tie on the back of the bathroom door like usual, Apollo undressed and placed his clothes in the (almost) full hamper making a mental note to do laundry later.

After taking a long shower, Apollo made his way back into the living room and settled down on the couch. He listened to Clay thank the delivery driver before he stood up and grabbed plates from the kitchen, picking up his coffee mug from earlier and taking a drink out of it once more. Okay, so maybe his boyfriend was a little bit correct. Apollo did run on caffeine and anger most days. It wasn’t his fault, he just...didn’t like losing very much. Especially to the likes of Klavier Gavin. The blond male had been nothing but trouble for Apollo since the first case they went head to head on. Every time Apollo had the trial going the way he wanted, Klavier seemed to turn the case around and win. It made Apollo want to scream.

Carrying the plates back into the living room, he passed one off to Clay and placed his mug on the coffee table in front of their couch before he sat back down in his spot on the couch. He playfully glared at Clay when he heard the other snort at the sight of the coffee mug. Apollo didn’t want the drink to go to waste, so what better way to get rid of it than drinking it? He grabbed a couple of slices of pizza before he settled down at Clay’s side and began to eat, leaning against him. They ate in a comfortable silence, Apollo setting his plate aside when he finished eating and sighing a bit.

“What’s on your mind, sunray?” Clay asked.

“Am I really on the right career path, starlight?” Apollo asked.

It wasn’t a secret that Apollo constantly questioned himself and his choice of career. He’d just gotten better at hiding it over the years and it really made Clay wish he knew how to ease the worry and uncertainty that plagued his boyfriend’s mind. The most Clay could do was assure him that he was on the right track and that he was right there to support him. Taking Apollo’s hand in his, Clay pressed a kiss to the back of it.

“You remember when I was sure I’d never make it big?” Clay asked.

Apollo nodded a bit, staring at Clay. “Yeah, of course. You were still just a cover artist on youtube at the time…”

“Exactly, but you always told me that even though I may not feel like I’m on the right path something would happen to prove I was.” He told Apollo.

“And then your cover of Can’t Help Falling in Love went viral.” Apollo said.

“That’s the thing that made me sure I was on the right path.” Clay told him, placing a hand on Apollo’s face and running a thumb over his cheek.

“Don’t give up yet, sunflower.” Clay said, pressing a kiss to his cheek. “You’ll find your reason to be sure, I promise.”
