Maybe it’s normal to want to know someone better when they’re in the public eye. Or maybe it’s not. Maybe it’s creepy to be trying to find every bit of information on someone you can just because you like the way they look or talk or laugh. It wasn’t like Shinsou was breaking any laws trying to figure out who the rude blonde in the hero course was. He wasn’t weird, just… curious.
And maybe that was still the issue when he got transferred into the hero course in his second year. He was still curious, still learning.
Just sucks that he was curious about Bakugo Katsuki.
-
Shinsou had figured that getting to know his childhood friend would be best at first. Midoriya was an easy person to befriend, after the whole sports festival fight the green haired teen had been adamant about getting Shinsou’s number and texting him about his quirk. It had been weird at first because Shinsou was used to people finding out and then avoiding him so he didn’t take them over.
So he had to be sneaky about asking after Bakugo. Midoriya was smart, he was smarter than most people gave him credit for honestly. Shinsou had to be super careful about how he gathered information.
“So Midoriya, you and Bakugo have been friends a long time hm?” Shinsou asks ( casually ) while they were stretching before the training exercise.
“Mm, yeah. We’ve been friends since we were little. I followed him everywhere,” Midoriya laughs lightly and Shinsou smiles softly at that. Imagining a small Deku following Bakugo around was pretty funny. “Why?”
“Oh no reason,” Shinsou waves him off for a second. “Just curious about my new classmates. It helps my quirk if I know how to get a response.”
Shinsou sees the gears turning in Midoriya’s mind with that fact and knows that the tidbit will be written in a journal later. The other boy is an insatiable nerd.
Shinsou can’t help but glance over at Bakugo as he makes the red headed boy with him stretch properly. He has to laugh a little, noting the rough way that Bakugo shows he cares.
“Has he always been kinda loud and… aggressive? What was he like younger?” Midoriya gives an awkward smile and a shrug.
“Yeah, he was always praised for having a strong quirk and we all knew he was gonna be an amazing hero.”
“And you too, Midoriya. You must’ve been told all the time that you’d be like All Might. Your quirk is similar to his, after all.” Shinsou notes the awkward movements as Midoriya laughs and nods along. “You and Bakugo must’ve been the popular ones.”
“I guess. I wasn’t really… I didn’t-“ he’s cut off by Aizawa-sensei telling everyone to stand near him and get paired off for training and Shinsou doesn’t miss the relieved sigh Midoriya lets out.
Mm. Something to think about. Maybe he was onto Shinsou asking about Bakugo.
-
Kirishima would have to be the next target for information on Bakugo. He was the resident Baku-translator and closest friend (if only by proximity some days). So Shinsou knew that the next best information was Kirishima, or maybe the Baku-squad in general, but that much yelling and energy made Shinsou tired.
So he’d have to get Kirishima alone. Somehow.
“Hey, Shinsou! Can I borrow your notes?” As if summoned by thought alone, the redhead is suddenly there and asking for notes.
“Uh, which ones?” Shinsou tries to remember if he took notes for all he needed.
“English. It’s hard to pay attention to Present Mic sometimes. I don’t know how you do it,” Kirishima laughs lightly and Shinsou nods. He won’t admit it to anyone else but living with Eraserhead and Presnt Mic was quiet, mainly because the blonde radio host took out his hearing aides at home and just used sign with them.
“Mm, I guess you can call it practice.” Shinsou smirks and shakes his head lightly. “I have the notes in my room. Let me grab them.”
“Perfect, I can come with you. I gotta start studying for the test.” Kirishima is smiling wide and it makes Shinsou smile back, the energy from the redhead was contagious some days.
They walk past Kirishima’s room and Bakugo’s room to get to Shinsou’s. He notes the loud music coming from Bakugo’s room and almost winces at the volume of the heavy bass. He was used to Mic though so he just shrugs and opens his door.
“Do you know why he listens to his music so loud?” Shinsou can’t help but ask as Kirishima takes a seat on the desk chair.
“Oh, uhm, it’s because he feels the bass better that way. He sits near the speaker and can feel the beat of music better. Jiro even helped rig up something for him.” Kirishima acts like it’s common knowledge, and maybe it is for the rest of the class, but Shinsou was still new to the class and only tilted his head a bit in confusion.
“Is he deaf?”
“Oh shit. You didn’t know.” Shinsou shakes his head and grabs the notes from his backpack. “Sorry, I forget you weren’t with us for first year.”
“It’s okay. Just means I’ve got a bit to catch up on.” Shinsou smiles lightly and Kirishima nods. “It feels a lot like being a transfer student. Except I’m not as popular,” Shinsou laughs at Kirishima’s confused look. “People already know my quirk and no one wants to get mind controlled so…”
“So..? That’s… I mean,” Kirishima looks like he wants to say that people shouldn’t be afraid of him using his quirk but at the same time looks as though he’s thought twice before saying hello to Shinsou in the halls.
“It’s understandable. This quirk is… a villain quirk. But I can’t help what I long to be.”
“What a fucking sob story! Grow a pair, would ya? Fucking act like a hero if you wanna be one.” Bakugo’s sudden voice makes Shinsou and Kirishima snap their heads to the doorway. Bakugo is standing with low slung sweats and a tight tank top on. He’s barefoot and Shinsou feels like his feet are too dainty for the kind of person he is.
“Oh good. Explodo Murder King Yells A Lot is here to save the day. My savior . How can I ever repay you.” Shinsou deadpans and watches as Bakugo frowns.
“Oh fuck off. You wanna be a hero? Act like a goddamn hero already. Moping doesn’t help shit. Stop acting sorry for yourself when you have a badass quirk.” Bakugo rolls his eyes as Shinsou just stares at the blonde. Kirishima is next to him with an open mouth, likely shock or something.
“Are you trying to be encouraging? That was almost a pep talk,” Shinsou does smirk at that thought. Bakugo rolls his eyes and crosses his arms as Shinsou watches him stand there. “Wait a second. You think my quirk is badass?”
“Shut the hell up, you filler episode. Come on, Kirishima, you said you wanted to study.” Bakugo leaves with a scoff, bare feet making no sound as he walked away.
“Uh, sorry about… him. Thanks for the notes! I’ll see you later?” Kirishima smiles and waves the notes in his hand as he leaves too.
“Yeah. Sure.” Shinsou nods to himself and the empty dorm room. “So, Bakugo thinks my quirk is badass. Huh.”
It’s not like that thought made him blush or anything stupid like get butterflies in his ribcage. Obviously it was just warm and Shinsou should open a window.
Obviously.
-
“I know what you’re doing. I’m not dumb,” Aizawa tells him during training one afternoon, wrapping him in capture tape with a smirk. “You’ve got a crush on a problem child.”
“W-what?! No! Shut up!” Shinsou feels the flush on his cheeks and the stupid butterflies in his chest start up with a vengeance. Aizawa just leans against the wall with a scoff. “You don’t know what you’re talking about.”
“Oh really? I don’t know what it’s like to have a crush on a dumb blonde?” And Shinsou should have known better than to rile Aizawa up like that as he spots the glint in his dark eyes. Fuck.
“I-just-“ Shinsou groans and lets his head fall to the ground. “ Fine . Yes.”
“Hmm? What was that?”
“I said ‘fine’! I have a stupid crush on a stupid blonde! I don’t-this is dumb. Let me out.” Shinsou stops struggling and closes his eyes, suddenly wanting to just shut the world out. He feels the capture tape loosen and unwind from around him.
“Hey. Look at me,” Aizawa sits down next to the purple haired teen and Shinsou does look at his teacher and guardian slowly. “I don’t mean to push you past where you are comfortable, Hitoshi. If you don’t wanna talk about it with me, I can get Hizashi to talk with you?”
“No, no-I… I just… maybe? I don’t know right now. It’s still…”
“Still fresh? I understand. You know that Hizashi and I are here, anytime you need us, okay?”
“Yeah, yeah I know that. Thanks, sensei.” Shinsou takes a deep breath and sits up, facing Aizawa with a frown.
“Is that all that’s been on your mind?” Shinsou should know he can’t hide anything from the pro-hero by now. After living with him and Present Mic, it was hard to have any secret. “You can tell me anything, Hitoshi. We’re in all the way.”
“I just… how do I make people see my quirk as something other than a villains quirk? I can’t just… suck it up and be a hero if all people ever see is that I can control them if I just talk to them.” Shinsou runs his hands through his already messy hair, he already had enough difficulty dealing with the fact his quirk wasn’t combat based so the Hero course was harder than it should be for him.
“Do I seriously gotta listen to you bullshit around and fucking mope all the time?! You’re making me angry, goddammit!” Bakugo’s voice is loud in the silence between Shinsou and Aizawa, it startles the purple haired teen but Aizawa seemed unfazed.
“Language.”
“Whatever. Listen to me good, you fucking idiot. You’ve got a good quirk. Fucking use it or don’t . Be a hero or don’t . But don’t let other people make that choice for you. Don’t be a goddamn washout unless it’s your choice.” Bakugo has gotten close enough to Shinsou now that he’s leaning over where Shinsou is laying on the mats. It’s framing Bakugo’s blonde hair in the fluorescent lighting like some kinda deity and makes Shinsou blush.
“I-what-“
“Shut up. Own your quirk. It’s yours no matter what so what are you going to do about it?”
The silence is heavy between the three of them and Shinsou thinks this is the most he’s ever heard Bakugo speak to him directly.
“I want… I want to be a hero.”
“Do you? Cause all you do is whine about how fucking hard your life is.”
“That’s not-! I’m gonna be a hero, dammit!” Shinsou sits up and pushes at Bakugo, suddenly getting annoyed. “I’m going to prove everyone wrong! I’ll be a better hero than any of you! I’ll prove it!” He’s pushing Bakugo with almost every word, standing and facing the explosive blonde before he knows it.
“Then fucking do it!” Bakugo yells back with a feral grin on his face and Shinsou feels out of breath and excited and angry and happy all at once.
He’s feeling alive again.
-
Something shifts after that whole shouting thing they did.
It shifts in the way that Bakugo will acknowledge him in the hallways, classroom, dorms, and anywhere really. It’s not a greeting or enthusiastic smile when he sees Shinsou but he nods and scans him up and down.
“Why’s Bakugo looking at you like he wants to eat you alive?” Sero sits in front of Shinsou’s desk during a break and Shinsou glances over at Bakugo quickly. He’s not paying any attention to Shinsou.
“What? He’s not even looking at me.” Shinsou ignores the blush on his cheeks and continues writing out his notes.
“Not now, duh, but like, any time else. He can’t stop staring at you. So. Something happened between you guys, right? Like a moment or-“
“I’m gonna stop you right there, Sero. Bakugo doesn’t have ‘ moments’ with people. He yells, he curses, and he frowns at people. Not what I would call a moment.” Shinsou has to laugh a little at the thought.
“That’s not what Mina said when she saw you two and Aizawa training in the gym the other day.”
“Mina’s a fucking liar.” Shinsou glares at the pink girls back as Sero laughs. “It wasn’t a moment. Bakugo doesn’t do moments.”
“He may not but you do. You had a moment, didn’t you?” Shinsou doesn’t answer Sero and it doesn’t seem like he really needs to since the other boy just nods and sighs. “That’s what I thought. Okay, cool. Well, I’ll do some digging, see what his type is.” Sero stands and walks away as Shinsou processes what he just said.
“Wait-no! Hey!”
-
“What’s up with you and sensei?” Shinsou is startled in the kitchen by Bakugo’s voice. He accidentally slices his finger and yells out in pain. “Shit.”
“Fuckfuckshit! That hurts,” Shinsou is about to shove the finger in his mouth to stop the bleeding but is grabbed by another pair of warm hands and pulled to the sink. Warm water rushes over their hands together and Shinsou watches the blood flow off into the drain before he glances over at Bakugo.
“Dumbass. Be aware of the knife at all times,” Bakugo chides softly with a frown, his hands are gentle as he holds Shinsou’s under the stream and it’s such a weird concept to put ‘gentle’ and Bakugo together but…
“Why… what are you doing, Bakugo?” Shinsou can’t help the question, watching as Bakugo carefully dries Shinsou’s fingers with a towel and then pulls out the first aid kit from under the sink.
“I’m patching you up, dumbass. Are you blind?”
“No, I just-“
“It was rhetorical. Fuck, you can be annoying.” Bakugo rolls his eyes at Shinsou but the purple haired teen can hear the fond tone of his voice so he assumes that Bakugo isn’t really mad.
“Aizawa-sensei is my guardian. He and Yamada-sensei foster me.” Shinsou smiles softly at the thought of both of his guardians, the quiet home life they had together before the dorms. “I… it’s-“
“I get it. Well, not really cause I have my parents but I can understand. So that’s why he can call you by your name and how he knows you so well.” Bakugo nods as he carefully wraps a bandage around Shinsou’s finger. Warms hands linger just a moment before he pulls away from Shinsou and throws the bloodied towel in the used bucket they have in the kitchen area.
“Mm, I’ve only lived with them a little over a year but they’re like my dads now.” Shinsou knows that Aizawa would roll his eyes but smile at the idea and Yamada would start tearing up and baby Shinsou at this point.
“Must be kinda weird. Living with Present Mic and Eraserhead, how loud does it get?” Bakugo smirks and rubs a hand behind his ears for a moment, probably adjusting the hearing aids as more people come into the common area.
“It’s… really quiet actually. Other than the radio that plays a lot in the kitchen, they’re both pretty quiet when Yamada takes his hearing aids off for the day.” Shinsou shrugs and goes back to what he was making for his lunch that day, happy to see that he didn’t get blood on the food.
“Is he deaf?”
“Yeah, almost completely. We use a lot of sign language to communicate at home.” Shinsou turns to Bakugo and signs his sign-name before spelling it out.
“Of course your sign-name has to do with your damn brain,” Bakugo barks out a laugh and Shinsou can’t help but smile a bit.
“Well I can only assume yours has something about explosions?” Which makes Bakugo blush and sign his name, but it doesn’t have an explosion really unless you count the large smile sign.
“I got it young, okay? I’ve been basically deaf since I was 6.” Bakugo crosses his arms in defense and Shinsou just smiles at him. It’s a weird moment between them and Shinsou regrets having to break it as he continues making his food. Bakugo leans back against a counter though and doesn’t leave like Shinsou thought he would. “How long have you known sign?”
“Oh, uhm I had a foster family when I was… 10? I think. They had a deaf daughter and taught me a lot of sign. I was moved out two years later to another family because they were having another kid and didn’t have room for me anymore,” Shinsou shrugs and notices Bakugo’s scowl.
“So they just get rid of you? That’s bullshit.”
“Well, they found out about my quirk and didn’t want me to… influence the new baby, I guess. It happens.”
“Bullshit. That doesn’t just fucking happen. You don’t just give someone away. I wouldn’t.”
Shinsou stares at Bakugo for a minute as the blonde grumbles about stupid people and it makes the purple haired teen smile lightly.
“You wouldn’t what?”
“Hah?” Bakugo snaps his head up to look at Shinsou now.
“You said that you wouldn’t. You wouldn’t what?”
It’s takes a full minute before Bakugo speaks up, looking like he’s really thinking about how to say it.
“I wouldn’t give you up if I had you.”
And then he leaves before Shinsou can process what he said.
“Oh.”
-
Shinsou doesn’t think he’s being a coward about things but Monoma keeps laughing at him as he lays on the blonde's bed. Yes, he fled to B class’s dorms, and yes he didn’t tell any of A class where he was going either. If they really wanted to find him, Aizawa would know where he went.
“You’re supposed to be my best friend, Monoma. Stop laughing at me.”
“Oh, it’s not you I’m laughing at. It’s that obnoxious angry one I’m laughing about.” He smirks over at Shinsou from the desk chair and swivels around a bit. “Okay, maybe a little at you too but! I am your best friend so I get to.”
“Fine. But you’re on thin fucking ice,” Shinsou points a finger at him as he frowns. Monoma just raises his hands in surrender and shrugs. “What do I even do? After that little… kitchen talk? I don’t know, he just avoids me! I can’t even find him when we’re training and Kirishima keeps giving me these stupid looks!”
“Don’t you have a room right next to him?”
“Well, yeah. But he’s never there anymore!”
“Well, neither are you. Maybe he’s picking that up?” Monoma sighs lightly. “As much as I hate you being in that class, he seems good for you. He’s also not dumb, so just go and talk to him.”
“But-“
“Oh no you don’t.” Monoma smirks and Shinsou doesn’t have a good feeling about it but watches as Monoma pulls out Shinsou’s phone.
“Wait-where-“ he sits up and pats his pockets even though he knows that’s his phone in Monoma’s hands.
“Oh cute, you put a little heart next to his name.”
“Shut the fuck up. Don’t you dare.” Shinsou doesn’t use his quirk on Monoma just like he won’t use it on Shinsou.
“ Meet me at the library tomorrow night. 9pm. xoxo.” Monoma looks entirely too smug as he throws the phone back to Shinsou. “There. Problem solved. Bakugo can’t avoid you if you have a meeting. He also seems to care about you too much to stand you up either.”
“I hate you.”
“You love me and you know it.”
“I can still hate you at the same time.”
-
Shinsou feels like throwing up. He’s been sitting at the library for what feels like hours but has only been about fifteen minutes.
Monoma was wrong though. Bakugo isn’t going to show up. It was already ten past nine pm as Shinsou sinks against the wall of the library and debates switching back to General studies.
Aizawa would be pissed and Yamada would be understanding but have this sad look in his eyes. He can’t do that to them. He can’t do that to himself either really.
“What am I even doing..?” Shinsou mumbles to himself and looks at the time on his phone again. 9:24pm now. “Fuck. He’s not coming.”
Shinsou takes a moment to collect himself, trying to not cry as he shoves his hands in his pockets. Whatever, he didn’t need Bakugo and his feelings. Didn’t need to confirm that everytime he saw the explosive blonde he felt his heart beat a tattoo against his ribcage, the butterflies got loose and went on a rampage.
“How stupid can I be? He’s not coming. He doesn’t care about me like that. ‘Wouldn't give you up’ my ass,” Shinsou kicks at a stray can on the sidewalk, knocking it into the side of the trash can before picking it up and throwing it at the trash. It bounced off the rim of it and the can landed on the ground again. “Seriously.”
He’s staring at the can, thinking about how it probably couldn’t get too much worse or how rain would really set the angsty mood he had going, when it happens. It starts to rain.
“ Perfect .” Shinsou raises his face to the sky, little drops of rain falling lightly on his cheeks while he contemplates what feels like everything at the moment. “Might as well head back to the dorms.”
And he walks on.
-
He’s drenched in cold rainwater by the time he’s made it back to the dorms. Shinsou wants to get out of these damp clothes and into a warm bath or under his blankets. He wants to avoid all contact with people, especially Bakugo and Aizawa-sensei.
So it’s with a bit of surprise that he walks into the common area to find the Baku-squad sitting around with their books out, studying it looks like. They all stare up at him with shock when he enters and drips water all over the floor.
“Uh, sorry. I’ll uh, mop it up…” Shinsou looks from them to the floor as he pulls off his shoes. He’s shivering and embarrassed and ready to ignore everyone.
“What- what were you doing out there?! It’s pouring!” Mina is the first to speak and quickest to come to his side, Kaminari close behind her with a blanket to drape over Shinsou’s shoulders.
“I-I was… I was supposed to be me-meeting someone…” he sniffs and shrugs off their hands as he walks back to his room. He ignores the crimson eyes watching him. “Guess I wasn’t w-worth keeping…”
It gets a reaction but not one Shinsou thought he would get. Bakugo looks livid.
Fine. Whatever. Shouldn’t Shinsou be the angry one? He’d been stood up, having waited for the asshole, then caught in the damn rain!
“I-I’m gonna go w-warm up… sorry to interrupt your guys’ study buddy thing.” He tries to not sound bitter about not being invited. He’s used to not being invited, not being wanted. He just didn’t expect it to hurt like this anymore.
Kirishima looks like he wants to say something but is stopped by Sero pointing at Bakugo.
Shinsou just leaves at this point.
-
Yamada is at his dorm room door in the morning. He’s dressed casual and holding a box of doughnuts from Shinsou’s favorite place when the teen answers.
“Heard you got caught in the rain?” He’s making his way into the room and Shinsou watches him set the box down and a carrier for coffee he didn’t notice until then is next to the doughnuts.
“Y-yeah. Still a bit chilled,” Shinsou wraps the blanket closer around himself and settles back into his bed. Yamada settles next to him and wraps an arm around his shoulders, pulling him close to his side and leaning his head on Shinsou’s. “Did you need something?”
“Can’t I just want to see my favorite son?” Shinsou laughs lightly at the comment and shrugs his shoulders.
“Aren’t I your only son?”
“Yes, that doesn’t mean that you can’t still be my favorite, though. Shouta and I even picked you specially,” Yamada laughs and squeezes Shinsou close to his chest. “Okay, I admit. Shouta asked me to chat with you. Is everything okay?”
“Ugh. He shouldn’t have done that. It’s honestly nothing. There’s nothing going on and it’s fine .”
“Is it fine?” Yamada’s keen eyes search Shinsou’s face before he sighs and stands from the bed to grab the coffee he left on the table. “Either way, I think you’ll do what you will. Let’s have some coffee and donuts and go over your English lessons.”
“I was supposed to meet with Bakugo last night. I texted him to meet me and he didn’t show up.” Shinsou feels like he can’t stop talking now. “I don’t know why he didn’t show up and when I was walking back here it started raining and then he was in the common area with others and looked angry and I don’t know why and-“ Shinsou can feel the pinprick of tears behind his eyelids. “Why didn’t he come? Why didn’t he tell me?”
“Oh, Hitoshi…” Yamada looks so sad now and it makes what little strength Shinsou had to hold back the tears just crack and then he was crying into his guardians arms. “My Hitoshi…”
They stay bundled on the bed with Yamada comforting Shinsou until the coffee goes cold and the donuts get stale.
-
Aizawa lets him skip school for one day, using the rain as an excuse for a cold. It’s actually not far off since Shinsou has been shivering and sniffling since that day. He’s holed himself up in his room and only letting Aizawa or Yamada in. He doesn’t want to see anyone else.
He ignores the texts from Kirishima and Monoma, not having the energy to deal with talking to people and he keeps his door locked so no one can just come inside. He knows that Class A means well, but Shinsou just wants to have his own pity party for a day.
He doesn’t expect to have a paper shoved under his door close to 10pm though. Most everyone goes to bed early or stays late training in the gyms so the fact that there’s this little folded paper on his floor makes him anxious.
It’s stupid to be anxious about a piece of paper and yet…
Shinsou shuffles over to it with a blanket wrapped around him and stares for a moment before picking up the yellow paper.
“ Fucking read it already!” Bakugo’s voice comes through the door and Shinsou startles so badly that he falls back on his own ass. He doesn’t say anything back and just holds the slightly charred paper in his hands. It smells a bit like smoke and Shinsou’s heart flutters for a moment because of it.
He opens it and stares.
‘I may be an asshole but I would never stand you up. Whoever you were meeting is obviously stupid. You deserve to be cared about. Loudly, often, and aggressively.’
Shinsou feels anger at first and then confusion. Could it have been possible that Bakugo didn’t know that Shinsou had waited for him? That Monoma had texted the wrong person or something?
He scrambles to grab his phone, unlocking it and scrolling to find Bakugo’s name and last text.
It was what Monoma sent. The ‘ meet me’ text was there. Unread. Sent to Bakugo’s number as advertised.
Back to anger, Shinsou squares his shoulders and unlocks the door to swing it open. He’s ready to charge over to Bakugo’s room in his sleep pants and oversized Present Mic tshirt.
But Bakugo is sitting across from Shinsou’s door, knees up and head leaning back against the wall. He’s got his eyes closed and hands resting over his knees. He looks like shit.
Shinsou loses a bit of his anger at the site when Bakugo cracks open one eye. He throws the note down to Bakugo with a frown.
“You’re so stupid. It was you . I was supposed to meet you. Don’t you ever check your phone?” Shinsou watches Bakugo’s face as he gets angry and confused like Shinsou a moment ago.
“I didn’t- What are you talking about?” Bakugo is uncharacteristically quiet and it makes something in Shinsou break a little bit. The blonde doesn’t move from where he’s sitting and it makes Shinsou feel like he’s towering over the explosive teen. “I would have been there . I would have shown up.”
“But you didn’t. You didn’t show up.” Shinsou wraps his arms around himself, like it’ll hold in all the emotions he’s feeling.
“I don’t-! What are you talking about?!” Bakugo stands, hands clenched and held down by his sides.
“I sent you a text, okay? I asked you to meet me at the library that night. You never showed, it rained, I came back and you were all buddy-buddy with everyone else in the common room. So a typical Friday night for me, I guess.” Shinsou feels pathetic. He feels stupid and angry and anxious.
“Hah..? What text?! You’re not making sense!” Bakugo groans and tugs at his hair in exasperation. Shinsou feels the same as he shoves his phone at Bakugo.
“This one! This text!” Shinsou shows the unread message to the blonde and watches the confusion and blush take over Bakugo’s face.
“I. You put a heart next to my name…”
“That’s not the important part! Look. It says unread . You didn’t even bother to open the message!”
Bakugo stares at Shinsou’s phone for a minute before he closes his eyes and covers his face with his hands. It’s the closest thing to embarrassment that Shinsou has seen on the other boy and it makes something wrench inside his gut.
“Kirishima overheard that shitty copycat guy talking about how he texted me from your phone… Kirishima told me and I thought that he was fucking with me. I fucking thought it was a prank!” Bakugo is beet red at this point and Shinsou is starting to worry about his blood circulation at this point.
“A… prank? Why would you think that?”
“Because my goddamn crush on you is so fucking obvious to everyone! Even those assholes in B class fucking know it!” Bakugo turns away from Shinsou at this point and the purple haired teen is blushing so hard that he’s sure he’s gonna pass out any time now.
“You have a crush. On me?”
“Fucking-yes! You don’t believe me?!” Bakugo is glaring at Shinsou now and any trace of embarrassment he had before is gone now. “I’ll prove it to you.”
And then Bakugo is grabbing Shinsou by the shoulders, hands fisted in the oversized tshirt as he slams Shinsou into the wall between their dorms. He crowds into Shinsou’s space, Bakugo’s face inches away from Shinsou and he looks into Shinsou’s eyes one last time before he kisses Shinsou.
It’s rough, chapped lips and anger and embarrassment and adoration.
It’s raw emotions and completely Bakugo and exactly what Shinsou imagined. So when Bakugo pulls away after a minute, Shinsou can’t help but follow him. His eyes crack back open after a moment to see Bakugo smirking at Shinsou.
“Does that prove it to you?” Bakugo is quiet, whispering like he doesn’t want to break the moment.
“I don’t know, maybe a few more like that will make me really believe you.”
“Asshole,” Bakugo scoffs lightly but does kiss Shinsou again.
And again.
And again.
At least until Aizawa calls Shinsou’s phone to make him come to dinner with him and Yamada.
“Oh, I gotta get ready and go. Sorry,” Shinsou shrugs his shoulders with a sheepish smile as Bakugo just sighs and crosses his arms. “Uhm, would you wanna… prove your crush to me later too?”
“ Dumbass , of course I’ll prove it to you. Anytime.” Bakugo brushes against Shinsou’s cheekbone with a calloused thumb and it makes Shinsou blush and his heart beat rapidly in his chest.
“Cool. I, uh, I gotta go but… later?”
“Yeah, yeah. Later.” Bakugo steps away and Shinsou almost follows him this time too. Shinsou turns to head into his room to change but stops and turns back around to Bakugo.
“I like you too, Bakugo.” He smiles at the ‘ duh ’ look on the blonde's face.
“Well, I fucking hope so.” He scoffs at Shinsou but is smiling. “Would be real fucking awkward if you didn’t at this point, hah?”
“See, I told Sero you didn’t do moments. I was right. They should listen to me more often.” Shinsou shakes his head with a laugh to himself as Bakugo just stares at him.
“The fuck are you talking about? Was that a moment ? You want a shitty moment? How about a whole goddamn supereon of moments? Would you like that?”
“Yeah, I would like that. I look forward to the next supereon of moments then.” Shinsou nods and Bakugo busts out laughing at the purple haired teen.
“What a goddamn nerd.” Bakugo smiles at Shinsou as he backs away. “Fine. I’ll give you so many moments. Just you watch. Fucking moments .”
Shinsou watches as Bakugo leaves, hands shoved in the pockets of his cargo pants and he doesn’t look back until he reaches the stairs. Shinsou is leaning against his door frame when Bakugo starts signing something to him.
‘ I like you and these fucking moments.’ Bakugo then blushes and walks away without letting Shinsou reply.
“What a dork. Who the hell knows what a supereon is anyways?” Shinsou laughs to himself before his phone starts ringing and he remembers that Aizawa is only so patient when he’s hungry. “Mm. A supereon of moments, okay.”
