“And you’re sure we won’t get caught?” Ritsu quirks a brow at the boy above him, currently struggling with a vent cover. Did they really have to break in that way…? I mean, yeah it was sick as hell but- didn't seem too practical.
“Oh my god, Ritsu! Yes, I’m sure! I’ve double- no, triple-checked for you!” Shou throws the cover onto the ground, making a hell of a clatter. “Would you just let us have a wicked-ass break-in date?! Hey, wait- You were the one who thought of this!”
Ritsu laughs and hops up on the garbage bin Shou was perched on. The hot summer air wasn’t helping the stench of the alleyway. “I was. I’m just making sure you did shit right.”
Shou huffs and shoves him, to which he gets more laughter. “You are so rude!” He laughs with his boyfriend. “Hey, remind me, who made the plan to bring down Claw?”
“I am not rude!” Ritsu yanks the shorter boy about by his bare arms, almost dancing with him. “Shut up and get in the vent before you get us caught!”
“You first!”
“No way, you’re just gonna stare at my butt!”
“You’re gonna stare at mine too! Just go first and let me be a gentleman!”
Ritsu punches his arm, crawling away in the vent before Shou can hit him back. “What are you, a toddler?!”
“You’re younger than me!”
“By one year!”
Their echoing back and forth fills the metal channel, their merriment bouncing around the walls and becoming the only thing they can hear. They do eventually manage to calm down, but it’s short-lived when Shou snorts.
“Hey.”
“Hm?”
“…Buenos Días Ritsu-”
“Don’t you dare!” Ritsu stops as he wheezes out a laugh, awkwardly trying to kick the boy behind him. “Y’creep! Get away!”
“I wasn’t gonna! Ow- Hey!” Shou grabs the offending leg and pulls on it, earning a squeal of half-delight half-alarm.
“What was that for!?”
“You’re kicking me! Like a baby in the womb!”
“Ew!” Ritsu shakes him off and continues, eventually reaching the end of the tunnel. His powers make quick work of the screws and cover, which clink and clang to the ground piece by piece.
“I think we’re both really bad at this," Shou follows him out, grinning more at the amount of noise they’re making. “Break-ins are supposed to be quiet, right?”
“I dunno, I’ve never done this before,” Ritsu helps him off the ground, continuing to hold his hand afterward. They glance around the establishment together; a movie theater.
Ritsu’s not sure why he thought this would be a good date idea, but Shou certainly had few, if any, qualms about it. The warm, luxurious red of the lobby welcomed them grandly, the leftover smell of greasy popcorn butter hanging in the air. There was no one here but the two of them.
“Wanna see if we can turn on the lights?” Shou squeezes Ritsu’s hand, bringing his attention back down to him. “It’s dark as fuck in here.”
“That it is,” Ritsu smirks and follows him, both boys feeling about for switches of some sort. “Ah- Here?” Ritsu finds one and flips it. He’s not greeted by any light, but instead by one of the machines behind the desk growling to life. “Uh… slushies?”
“Hell yeah,” Shou regretfully lets go of Ritsu’s hand to hop over the counter, fiddling with the machine. Being that it wasn’t exactly warmed up, it really just provided a pre-melted slushie. Shou pouts at this, but still mixes all the flavors together for them in a big cup.
Ritsu continues to search for switches, turning on pretty much everything else except for the lights in the process. Ah well, that just means they’ll have more snacks. Finally, whatever god or form of luck there is out there lets them have light, to which they both whoop and holler with joy.
“Alright, I think I’ve got everything,” Shou passes Ritsu a big bag of cold-ish popcorn, lukewarm nachos, and a hefty stack of candy boxes. “Y’think that’s enough?”
“I think… we're gonna get sick," Ritsu smiles at him.
“Hell yeah, we are!” Shou loops an arm around Ritsu’s, dragging him past the lobby and into the hall of the many cinema rooms. “Which one of these you wanna hijack? Does it matter?”
Ritsu hums. “I don’t think it does? Let’s do… Cinema #3.”
“Three it is!”
They manage to get into the projection room of Cinema #3, all their food goods hovering around them. Ritsu figures out the system pretty quickly, going through the list of available movies.
“I guess the employees keep some older ones to watch for themselves…”
“Makes sense. Hmm… Hey,” Shou has him stop on one title. “‘Flying Dead Pig?’ The hell’s that?”
“Oh, I think Teru’s mentioned that before. Apparently, it’s… kinda shit, but in a fun way? It’s horror though…” Ritsu frowns, already preparing himself.
“Oh, we are absolutely watching that!” Shou places a hand on Ritsu’s shoulder, shaking him gently. “C’mon Ritsu, don’t worry! It’ll be fun!”
Ritsu pouts further, and goddammit he was too good at that. Shou groans, clutching at his heart. “God, you know that kills me, dude.”
“I do.”
“…What if I protect you, huh?”
“Huh?”
“L-Like… You can hide in me if you get too scared, I guess…” Shou scratches under his nose, looking away from Ritsu for once. They’d been dating for a bit, sure, but they hadn’t done a whole lot of romantic junk, so Shou was still nervous when offering it. Ritsu seems a little shocked too, if his silence means anything.
“I… I think I’d like that, actually,” Ritsu grabs the hand on his shoulder, squeezing it reassuringly. This also squeezes Shou’s heart, dealing him incredible damage. Luckily there was a comfy chair nearby to catch the ‘nearly fainting’ redhead. (It held them both perfectly fine if they tangled their limbs together just so.)
The movie… Isn’t actually all that scary. It was cheesier than their weird soggy nachos. (Which were promptly thrown away once found to be 'not that great' by Ritsu's standards.)
Still, Ritsu pretends to be slightly spooked, if only for Shou to hold his hand, occasionally squishing it or, if he was lucky, kissing it. He ends up leaning on his shoulder a lot, but Shou doesn’t seem to mind.
“Sleepy?” Shou whispers and nudges him, smiling. “Movie’s not over yet.”
“I know, and I’m not,” Ritsu sighs and pulls Shou closer. “You’re just comfy. Is it a crime to cuddle my boyfriend during a movie?” He flushes heavily but manages to get the words out all the same. He barely calls Shou his boyfriend, though he thinks it often.
That seems to break Shou momentarily. His freckles pop out against his blush, his face shining in the minimal light of the projection room. “N-Not at all! Please, k-keep… Uh, continue.”
Ritsu laughs and pulls him even closer, pretending to jump when the next ‘spook’ comes on. He hides in his shoulder, pressing his forehead against the boney joint. “You’re warm.”
“I-It’s just warm in general, it’s summer,” Shou waves him off. “Shut up n’ watch the movie, alright?”
“What if I don’t wanna?”
“Don’t be a brat!” Shou elbows him in the stomach, but like in a loving way. It yields him a groan, a giggle, and a faked retch.
“You’ve killed me… You’ve killed your boyfriend.”
“Do you gotta keep reminding me?” Shou huffs. “I get it, we're dating. Haha, you’ve got me wrapped around your finger!”
Ritsu scrunches his nose. “I didn’t know that part… What, do you not like it here?”
“N-No! I mean- Yes? Th-That’s not it!” Shou freaks. “I-I do love you, I do! I just… Get flustered…”
“You’re cute like that,” Ritsu reaches to cup his cheek, and Shou turns into it, sighing.
“I don’t feel cute… I feel dumb.”
“How so..?” Ritsu’s brow furrows.
“I just… dunno what I’m doing, really. I’ve never had someone like you who… meant so much to me…”
“I don’t and haven’t either. I’m just winging it, honestly. I just… try to do what feels good and right.”
Shou chuckles. “Ah, the Reigen approach.”
“Don’t mention his name while we're on a date!” Ritsu shoves him lightly. “That is profane!”
“Implying the opposite of Reigen is Jesus?” Shou snorts. That gets a wonderful round of laughter out of Ritsu, sharp and peaking with a few wheezes between. Shou smiles and brings him nose-to-nose with himself. It takes a bit for Ritsu’s giggles to die down and for him to notice.
“…Hey.”
“Hey. I love you.”
Ritsu blushes. “I… I mean I love you too, but where’s this coming from?”
“Is it a crime to say the truth?” Shou raises his eyebrows. Ritsu huffs and tries to push him away, failing miserably and more so just smooshing his face with his hand.
“I take it back, I hate you.”
“Nooo, you don’t!” Shou whines against his hand, nosing and eventually kissing it. Ritsu smiles.
“…You’re right. I don’t. I could never…” Ritsu holds his chin, reveling in the comfortable sigh it rouses out of Shou. “Can I kiss you?” He whispers, hesitant, and small. He thumbs over Shou’s bottom lip as he smiles.
“Always.”
Their kisses have always been soft, shy and tentative. Their first was a bit of a mess, both boys had puckered their lips way too much for it to be… anything. But, with time they’ve learned how to do it properly, though they still have their awkward moments.
It’s wonderful, squished noses and all. Ritsu laughs against Shou’s lips and Shou swears his body felt colder when he was standing in the middle of the Kageyama housefire. His stomach flip flops, but in a really cool neat romantic way, not an “I’m gonna toss up a bunch of cold popcorn kernels” way.
“You taste like… cola and blue raspberry. Orange too, definitely.”
“That’d be the slushy,” Shou giggles.
Shou’s kisses eventually trail away, to the side of Ritsu’s mouth, then to his cheek. Ritsu hums, his hands carding through the hairs on Shou’s nape. His eyes are closed, and he almost seems content to fall asleep right there.
Then the kisses trail down further. There’s one on his neck, then his shoulder, then his chest, down down down…
“W-Wait, Shou, what’re you-” Ritsu stutters when Shou kisses his stomach, his blush creeping down his neck. Shou stays there, grinning up at him. His breath is much too hot on his covered midriff, and sure Ritsu has thought of this but it’s much too soon and he doesn’t know what to say, do, or think and he can’t-
Then he blows a raspberry on his stomach and ruins everything. Ritsu yelps and nearly topples over the chair they’re sitting in trying to get Shou off of him.
“O-Oho my god you ba-hahastard! Fuck you!” He giggles and snorts as Shou refuses to let up. The laughter only encourages the redhead more. “H-Hey! I-I’m serious! Quit i-hehet!” Ritsu finally kicks him off, and Shou lands with an ‘oof’ on the ground.
“You’re too cute.”
“You scared the shit out of me!” Ritsu peers over at him, fighting the grin on his face.
“What did you think I was gonna do, huh?” Shou sits up, wiggling his eyebrows.
Ritsu huffs and pulls him back up. “Shut up and come finish the movie with me.”
They both finally look back at the screen, only to realize the credits were rolling. Shou laughs and takes charge of the projector. “Well, that was shit. Can’t wait to tell Teru we hated his favorite movie.”
“I didn’t hate it.”
“Sure.”
“I’m serious! It wasn’t that bad!” Ritsu balances on the arm of the chair, leaning over Shou to peek at the movie list again.
“You barely looked the whole time! You were so spooked!”
“That doesn’t make it bad! Oh- Do this one!”
Shou stops as asked. “A rom-com? This is pretty recent too…”
“It just went out of theaters a bit ago. I didn’t get the chance to see it when I wanted to…” Ritsu scratches his cheek, pouting. Shou doesn’t hesitate to play the movie to get a smile back on his face.
“Give me a synopsis,” Shou gently pushes him back down into the chair, crawling on top of him. Ritsu only makes a few noises of protest.
“City guy meets seaside girl. They clash, then become friends, yadda yadda. Pretty standard.”
“Ooh… She a surfer?”
“Mmm… I don’t think so?”
“Ugh, laaaame!” Shou groans, adjusting and resting his head over Ritsu’s chest. The main character appears on screen and Shou cups his hands around his mouth. “Hey! She’s not worth iiiit!!” He shouts at the screen. Ritsu laughs but bops him on the head anyways.
“Shh! Quit it!”
“There’s no one else here! Besides, why would you want a seaside girl if she can’t like… hang ten or whatever!” Shou flails his arms out. Ritsu laughs more and pushes his head down, muffling the rest of his complaints into his shirt. Shou kicks, but it’s futile.
“You’re still talking over the movie!” Ritsu hisses. “And you- Ow-! Hey, no kicking!”
“You kicked me earlier!”
“I didn’t manage to hit you though! Then you tugged on my leg!”
“You sounded like you like it,” Shou snorts. Ritsu actually kicks him for that. Their little battle continues through the movie.
The movie that’s… actually kinda disappointing. At least to Ritsu. There were many tropes that he could do without, a few jokes that they both hissed or audibly protested at, and an ending that was unsatisfactory and bland.
“I think… That was worse than Flying Dead Pig.”
“Oh, most certainly,” Ritsu turns the projector off, turning up his nose at the credits. “Y’know…” He interrupts himself with a yawn, then continues. “You’ve seen my writing, it might be shit but I could still make something better than that.”
“You’re writing’s good, Ritz, how many times do I gotta-” Shou stops, a little mischievous something in his eyes. He grins at Ritsu. “Hey.”
“Oh god,” Ritsu closes his eyes and laughs, exasperated. “What?”
“What if… we made a little movie?”
Ritsu tilts his head. “What do you mean?”
“Like- Right here, right now, we go down there and we act out a better movie than that shlock!” Shou points at the window, down at the seating area, and the thin stage at the front. Ritsu follows his finger and considers this.
Eventually, he sighs and shrugs. “Sounds easy enough. Make it a short film though…” He yawns again.
“Sure thing, you sleepy baby,” Shou links arms with him, grabbing their trash and dumping it as they leave.
“M’your sleepy baby,” Ritsu mumbles. Shou blushes and pats his arm.
“Y-Yeah yeah, don’t worry. We’ll be home soon.”
Their play starts out the same, seaside cheery guy and a stuck up businessman.
“And I can actually surf!” Shou proudly proclaims upon the stage, preening for Ritsu…’s character. Yeah.
Ritsu snerks. “Oh wow, that’s talent,” He states dryly.
“Right? A lot better than a plain girl who just likes water!”
“A little,” He teases. Shou pouts.
“You’re mean.”
“And you’re gonna fall in love with me anyway.”
“Sure am!” Shou steps closer, ‘adjusting’ Ritsu’s collar for him. “So can we kiss already?”
“That’s all this was an excuse for, huh?” Ritsu bumps foreheads with him, smiling. Shou nods, and Ritsu sighs and closes the gap.
Shou gets a little bolder this time around, keeping his grip on Ritsu’s collar and biting his lip. Gentle, now, he doesn’t wanna scare him. It still gets a small peep out of him and causes his hands to wander around his back. Ritsu tries it back and Shou’s hand goes up to his nape, tugging gently on the soft hairs there.
Ritsu pulls away, sighing again. “Shou…” He’s still smiling, still not opening his eyes. If Shou didn’t know any better, he’d say he fell asleep standing up.
Shou chases him, trying to keep going. “Ritsu…”
BAM!!
The doors to the theater are kicked in, making both boys jump and cling to each other. Security? There was no one around before! Granted they were… really loud, but-
“Hey, you two!” The guard points and calls after them. “Oh, you little shits are in so much trouble!” They run towards them, almost tripping down the steps.
“Shou-!” Ritsu grips harder, and Shou slaps a hand over his mouth, shushing him. The guard stops all of sudden, glancing around.
“The hell…”
Ritsu looks down at Shou, only… only to see nothing. Which is weird, because he can certainly feel him.
Oh, right. Ritsu forgot powers were a thing. Shou tugs on his invisible sleeve, trying to guide him. Ritsu follows as best as he can, tiptoeing towards the other exit. The guard still looks unbelieving.
“Hey… Hey! How’d you two do that?!” They shout, finally running up to the stage. “Listen, if you drop the magic act and come quietly, I’ll be nicer about getting you arrested!”
Ritsu would prefer not to be arrested at all, but he guesses that wasn’t an option. Shou walks faster, then runs, suddenly eager to leave the theater.
At some point, Ritsu slips on a step, gasping in surprise and nearly taking Shou down with him. Shit.
The guard turns and bolts after them. Shou yanks Ritsu up blindly, speeding through the building. “Shitshit shit go-!” He curses, giggling hysterically.
“Why are you laughing?!” Ritsu hisses, stumbling after him.
“I dunno!” Shou skids into the lobby, looking around for the vent. It’s still uncovered, thank their stars. He shoves Ritsu in first, following after him. He covers the vent again right as the guard enters the lobby, huffing and puffing.
“Where are you, crazy kids?!”
The ‘crazy kids’ pant and snicker, the sounds resounding quietly in the metal tunnel. Ritsu shushes Shou when he laughs louder. “C’mon! Hey, turn me back!”
Shou does so, turning visible again and ushering Ritsu outside.
The boys breathe a sigh of relief in the warm night air, Ritsu sealing up the vent for them.
“That… was close.”
“I told you we’d get caught.”
“Yeah yeah, I owe a buck or two…” Shou waves him off, yawning himself. Ritsu hums.
“I’ve got a better idea.”
Shou flushes at the prospect. This… could be anything. “Oh yeah?”
Ritsu promptly flops on him, nearly crushing Shou with his weight.
“Carry me to bed.”
Shou considers this, then shrugs and scoops Ritsu up in a bridal carry. “Sure thing,” Coulda been worse. Besides, this feels… nice. Right, even.
Ritsu wasn’t expecting this type of carry, but eventually adjusts, snuggling up to his boyfriend. “Thanks… For this and the date,” He loops his arms around Shou’s neck loosely.
Shou skips off the dumpster, floating upwards over the city and towards the Kageyama home. “Only the best for you,” His telekinesis brushes a few strands of hair out of Ritsu’s face, who sighs at the gentle touch.
“You are the best.”
Shou thinks that’s the cheesiest thing he’s heard all night. It’s also the greatest thing he’s heard all night, other than… “I love you.”
“I luh you too…” Ritsu mumbles, drifting off in Shou’s arms. Honestly, Shou could cry. This boy is too good for him, too sweet!
He’s sure to be gentle with him as he lays him in bed, gentler when he cuddles up next to him, and the gentlest when he kisses his cheek and sleeps next to him.
He can’t wait to see his face in the morning, and, hopefully, every morning afterward.
