Work Text:

"Touya!" The name caught in his throat. It hurt and to his ears, it sounded more like a sob than a name.

There was darkness surrounding him. He didn't know what time or day it was, nor where he himself was at this very moment.

All he knew, was pain. His throat felt like it was on fire and there was wetness on his face, though he didn't know wheter it was his tears or his blood. Or someone else's. He shuddered. Red red red.

He wanted to close his eyes so badly and yet ... and yet it wouldn't even have changed a single thing. It was dark, no matter what.

"Tou-" He bit his tongue. There was something about that name that filled him with dread. A memory of some sort, though he couldn't quite grasp it. Perhaps it was for the best.

Red red red.

"Some kind of hero you are." The voice filling his ears sounded wrong. It didn't belong here. It didn't belong anywhere at all. Though, at the same time, it belonged everywhere.

"You never even trusted me, did you?" He felt himself choke just trying to get these words out. "No." More wetness on his face. Perhaps it really was tears and not blood. Perhaps it was both. "Did you ever believe me?" The voice was quiet for a moment and then there was a laugh. It sounded brutal and he felt like he'd just been stabbed. Red red red.

"Never. I just wanted to see how far you'd go." And he'd gone too far. "I was curious if you'd let your hands be drenched in blood." He did. "I was not disappointed." The voice sounded almost amused. Almost. "It fits the look though, doesn't it?" He flinched. Through the darkness he could feel someone standing close to him. A shiver ran down his spine and a laugh filled his right ear. "Red like the feathers. Red like your wings." The wings. Panic overcame him and his hands grabbed over his shoulder, searching for the feathers, the wings. "There's nothing left, little bird." It was nothing more than a whisper but it left him breathless. They were gone.

"You're nothing without them."

"I'm nothing without them."

Hawks woke with a start and tears on his face. His body felt like it was on fire and it was way too light in the room. Underneath the sheets and his hospital gown were bandages over bandages wrapped tightly around his upper body. It might've only been a nightmare, but the words rang true.

For the first time in many years, he was Keigo Takami once more. Worthless. Nothing.
