“Did you honestly make a nest?” Touya asked, staring at the mess on the bed. Pillows were scattered across the bed, forming a circle along the edges. Several old but warm blankets draped the pillows, and many more were set to cover whoever was in the nest. Hawks smiled as he gestured to it, so proud of the effort that went into it. He even managed to make a canopy, with sheets that covered the view of the bed when lowered. “Why yes, I did. What do you think?”
“It looks ridiculous.”
Hawks laughed despite the harsh insult. Touya rolled his eyes while he rested his hand on his protruding stomach. In a perfect world, Touya would have never been in this situation. He would have never been close to burning to death on a daily basis, nor would he have been covered head to toe with skin grafts as a result. He would have never been born an omega and the only omega in his family. He would have never have met an alpha named Hawks. He would have never got caught in heat at the same time that Hawks went into a rut, and thus would have never gotten pregnant with the birdbrain’s spawn. This was not a perfect world however, and Touya was stuck with the everyday torture of his life.
While his current situation was inconvenient at best, it was not as terrible as he thought it would be. While they were not mates, Hawks began doting on him like one. Touya wasn’t used to the…what would you call it…affection? Yeah, that was it. Affection. The Todoroki family didn’t have affection for one another like most family members would. His father didn’t know the word kindness. His mother became insane from the abuse. His siblings attempted to stay close to him, but he felt like an outcast compared to them. They didn’t know what it was like to be almost burned alive, then casted aside like a failure. Even without the pregnancy, Endeavor was ashamed of Touya.
Endeavor had demanded that Touya aborted the fetus, but Touya said no. There was no way in hell that he was going to kill the baby because it wasn’t planned. He wasn’t going to stoop to his old man’s level. He had expected his siblings to back him up…but they didn’t. Natsuo and Fuyumi didn’t side with Endeavor, but they also tried to convince Touya that keeping the child would only hurt Touya in the end. Shoto didn’t feel as though the problem concerned him. That was the final push for Touya to throw away all contact with his family and leave for good.
A few days later and Hawks showed his face to Touya again. He was embarrassed when he heard about the pregnancy, but he offered his help to raise the baby. Touya took his help without much thought, thinking that Hawks was doing it to save face in the public eye. It wasn’t the first time something like this happened to a hero, but Touya had no desire to drag Hawk’s name in the mud. Hawks could have done better about controlling his ruts, but Touya was also responsible for walking around in a heat.
What Touya thought would simple aid and paying for baby supplies became Hawks trying to provide for Touya in many ways. Hawks set up a place for Touya to stay after he moved out. He went with Touya to doctor appointments. He helped Touya get some quirk suppressors to take that were safe for the baby. Hawks bought almost everything, even though Touya did have a job. At first, he thought Hawks was mocking his capabilities. Just because Touya was an omega (a pregnant one in fact) didn’t mean he was not able to care for himself. Yes, Hawks and Touya fucked, but that was the end of it. There was no reason for Hawks to be hanging around like this! Financial support was one thing, but this other stuff was not something that Touya was looking for. After all, Touya didn’t anybody before and he certainly didn’t need somebody like Hawks!
At least, Touya didn’t think he needed somebody like Hawks. Unlike most alphas, Hawks kept his distance when Touya asked for it. He didn’t push Touya in any way that made the omega uncomfortable. Touya figured Hawks would be the type to lay claim on him the minute he let his guard down, and then take control over him. That was not the case. If anything, Hawks acted more respectful and courteous toward him in the short time they met each other than most people Touya knew his entire life. It was weird, and it made Touya distrust him. Something was up. There had to be an ulterior motive behind that gentle smile of Hawks. Nobody was that nice, and there was no way in hell that Touya was going to be a victim of some twisted alpha’s games.
Then something happened, or rather a few things happened in one long elaborate sequence. Touya’s health had gotten worse as the pregnancy continued. His body was too frail and damaged to carry the baby without complications. It didn’t dawn on Touya how bad it was until he was forced to go to the hospital in an ambulance. He hadn’t changed the emergency contacts, so of course his father came to the hospital. Endeavor did his best to get rid of the baby. He claimed that it was the best course of action, as the pregnancy was slowly killing Touya. Touya had spit at Endeavor and told him to “go to hell”. Endeavor would have gotten his way with it if it wasn’t for Hawks showing up in the nick of time. “Stay the hell away from Touya and my kid!” Hawks had said to Endeavor, and proceeded to kick Endeavor out of the room. Touya was shocked to say in the least. Nobody ever had the gall to talk to Endeavor like that before, and the first person that does just so happens to be his baby’s father.
When Touya was discharged from the hospital, Hawks was waiting for him. Hawks also went on paternity leave to watch and care for Touya, moving in and sleeping on the couch instead of staying in the penthouse and relaxing in his king-size bed. It freaked Touya out, but it was alright. Touya trusted Hawks now. Why? He didn’t know. It could be the fact that Touya knew Hawks would keep their son safe and happy. Or maybe it was his omega hormones wanting to be close to the alpha that bred him. It didn’t seem to matter at the moment. It wasn’t as though they were going to be mates.
“Come on in and try it out!”
“What? No! I’m not going to do that!”
“Please? I worked very hard on it!”
Touya sighed. Hawks was not going to stop unless Touya agreed, so he might as well. Touya started walking toward the bed; however it seemed more like waddling since Touya was seven months along. The impatient birdman ran to Touya instead and lifted him into his arms bridal style. “Hey! You stupid bird! Let go! You’re going to drop me!”
“No I won’t,” Hawks said. Despite the dramatic tone, Touya could tell that Hawks would not drop him in a million years. He carried Touya over the bed and set the pregnant man on the bed gently. Then, he took a thin blanket and covered Touya with care before getting in on the other side of the nest. He cuddled close to Touya, holding his rather thin frame in arms while stroking the belly. The baby kicked back, causing Touya to wince. Otherwise, he sighed in content. This did feel nice, and the nest wasn’t as uncomfortable as it looked. Touya noticed feathers undoing the ties on the hanging sheets, and his surroundings became enshrouded in darkness as they draped down.
“What do you think?” Hawks asked. His golden eyes seemed to shine despite the lack of light, making Touya look at them with awe. Touya averted his eyes to avoid staring at Hawks, and said, “It’s better than I thought.”
“And more private.” Hawks leaned in closer and Touya stiffened, thinking that Hawks was going to plant a kiss on him. This was not something that Touya was ready for, and if Hawks was going to try that then Touya would make him regret it. Instead, Touya felt Hawks’ head rest above Touya’s white hair, humming with content. His wings draped over them like a blanket, but it didn’t feel heavy on Touya’s body. Touya hadn’t ever felt this warm before. Yes, he had a fire quirk and he didn’t get cold, but the warm feeling…was different that actual fire. It confused him. It scared him. The baby kicked toward Hawks, somehow knowing that its father was hugging them. Touya soothed the baby with his hand, and he felt Hawks’ hand rub up against his. Both hands froze upon contact, than Hawks’ hand carefully held Touya’s. Touya was thankful that Hawks did not see him blush.
Both of them were quiet as they cuddled. It was a good kind of quiet. Neither of them needed to say anything. It would have broken the serene atmosphere, and Touya felt that any type of noise would have ruined the mood. Touya pressed his head against Hawks’ neck, and was relieved to know that Hawks didn’t move when he did that. He wasn’t sure if he could have been able to handle it. This was not the first time that they lay together in a bed (the baby was proof of that), but it was the first time that they were intimate with each other. It was one thing to have sex, but it was another to just snuggle with someone like this.
At some point, Touya woke up, not realizing that he had fallen asleep. Hawks was not in the bed with him and for a moment he panic. Then he scolded himself. It wasn’t as though he needed him. Sure, it was nice being cared for, but it wasn’t a necessity. He sat up in the bed, with some trouble, and looked around. The canopy was still lowered, but there was a crack of light shining through one of the blankets. That must have been where Hawks parted the sheets to leave. Touya could smell the aroma of chicken, and his mouth watered. Chicken was the one thing that the baby craved, and it just so happened to be Hawks’ favorite food. Go figure. Touya figured that Hawks went out and bought some takeout chicken. Hawks would never be brave enough to try to cook for Touya again after the kitchen disaster a month ago.
“Touya? You awake?”
“Just woke up,” Touya said, trying to shift out of the bed, but was unsuccessful. When Hawks made the nest he fixed it where Touya wouldn’t be able to roll back out, whether it would be an accident or on purpose.
“You want something to eat?”
“After you get me the hell out of this bed! I can’t get out!” Touya was letting his temper get away from him again, however Hawks just laughed. “Don’t worry, firecracker! Your shining white knight is on the way!”
Hawks pulled the sheet away from Touya’s side of the bed, which startle Touya. Hawks just grinned. “Why did you build this damn nest in the first place? I figured you be smart enough to fix something I can get out of easier,” Touya said as Hawks helped him out of the bed.
“Sorry about that. I think my instincts got the better of me, to be honest.”
“What do you mean?” Touya asked as he made it out of the bedroom and sat at the small dining table. Hawks shrugged. “I guess I wanted a safe place for you to go to, should you ever need protection. I’ve been worried about leaving your side and I guess the mutation in my quirk took control.” Hawks sat down beside Touya, watching Touya eat the chicken rather than eating with him. Touya didn’t mind.
“So a bunch of pillows, blankets, and sheets are going to protect me? From what?” Touya asked once his mouth was empty. He still had manners.
“From whoever dares to lay their hands on you.”
“You sound a little possessive there, Hawks.”
Hawks was unaffected by Touya’s remarks, watching him with a tired look and hooded eyes. “Maybe. Still, I think it’s a safe place, regardless of how stupid you think it looks.”
“And why would you think that?” By now Touya had stopped eating and was leaning back in the chair. The baby was kicking now, and Touya tried to calm the baby by rubbing where the baby was hitting. Hawks smiled and put his hand on the stomach, feeling the kicks that pressed against it.
“Because if anything or anyone tries to hurt you or our baby, they’ll have to go through me first.”
Touya looked up at Hawks, but he wasn’t prepared for the serious expression on Hawks’ face. The golden eyes was stern, his brows furrowed, as he stared back into Touya’s face. Touya gulped. He had never seen such an intense look on Hawks’ face before. It was as though he truly meant what he said. No, Hawks definitely meant what he said. Touya could tell as he stared back. Despite the tension between the two of them, Touya had never felt so at ease. He felt the walls that he worked so hard to build over the years crumble away because of everything this idiot did for him in less than nine months.
Touya averted his eyes, afraid of what might happen if he continued looking any more, and in turn Hawks did the same thing. Hawks got up from the chair and put the leftovers in the fridge while Touya stood up and went to the bathroom. He hated the fact that he had to pee every few minutes. When he got out of the bathroom, he saw that Hawks was lying down on the couch, looking at his phone. He seemed content at least, but Touya knew that the couch was uncomfortable from previous experiences. He bit his lip while rubbing the scent gland in his neck, deep in thought. He was still unmarked despite it all, and before today he would have held his head high in knowing he belonged to no one. Now he felt lonely. It was ridiculous! Touya shouldn’t be falling for this guy! Even though Hawks was good looking…and rich…and kind…and…fuck.
Touya must have lost his mind because he was beginning to fall love with his baby’s daddy. This was because of the hormones, wasn’t it? Or the fact that he was an omega to being with? Damn it! The worse part of it all was that he didn’t mind it. He must be desperate.
“Hey, birdbrain.” Hawks looked up from his phone and at Touya, curiosity evident on his face. Touya sighed, and swallowed his pride. “Do you want to cuddle some more?” Touya could swear that his entire face was as red. Hawks didn’t say anything, but he did smile. He got up from the couch and picked up Touya once more, even though Touya did not like it, and placed him back into the so called nest.
Touya was so embarrassed of his submission to the alpha, but Hawks said nothing nor did he tease the omega about it. Instead, Hawks surrounded his body around Touya and pulled the sheets closed, giving the both of them total privacy once more.
