Chapter Text

A four-year-old (y/n) watched in amazement as her best friend showed off his quirk. It had just manifested and the two children were ecstatic about it. She was so excited for when her quirk finally manifested.

Current Day

You stood in front of the gates of U.A. All the normal students were exiting, finally done with their entrance exam, but not you. You were just now entering the exam. Your dear old friend Shoto Todoroki had somehow talked his dad into giving you a recommendation. You had no idea why. You were positive Shoto hated you as much as you hated him, but maybe this was his sick cold way of playing with your mind. Letting you almost get to your goal before he delivered the finishing blow.

You squeezed the strap of your backpack before continuing your tread into campus. When you entered the exam room you only saw ten people. Of those ten people, you saw one familiar face. You had the strong urge to break something when your eyes met those cursed heterochromia eyes. He gave you a weak smile and waved. You just glared at him before walking over and taking a seat beside him.

It bothered you how calm and elegant he was. He was the reason for your suffering. Growing up he got all the attention. He got everything. Not even your parents loved you as much as they loved Shoto. And he wasn’t even their kid. They called you a disappointment. Always asking why you weren't trying hard enough, or why weren’t you as good as Shoto. It lasted for 12 years. But you finally got your reprieve when you moved in with your aunt in Kimino. For three years you lived your own life and trained. You weren’t Todoroki’s best friend anymore. You were yourself. (y/n) Chisaka.

“Examinees please take your seats,” Principle Nezu announced through a microphone. Standing beside Principal Nezu was All Might himself. “As you know, the ten of you are here for a very special reason. You were recommended by pro heroes to be admitted into U.A. Highschool. Today you will be testing your skills to see if you truly are U.A. worthy. Only the top three will be admitted into the main hero course, however.”

With that whispers started to circulate throughout the room. Shoto sat beside you in his stoic manner. Seemingly unaffected by this fact.

Of course, he wouldn't panic. He’s a gifted boy. Has been since birth, he knows he’ll get in. Cocky bastard. You thought in your head.

The exam lasted for three hours. In those three hours, the top three students quickly separated themselves from the rest. The gap from 4th place to 3rd place was a whole 100 points. The names were anonymous. You stood all sweaty and tired outside with the other ten examinees. Principal Nezu was about to announce who the top 3 truly were.

“Now, before we announce the results, I am very proud of all of you. You’ve shown great skills to be a hero, and everyone tried their best! Now without a due,” Principal Nezu cleared his throat. “In first place is Shoto Todoroki. One of two of the Pro Hero Endeavour's recommended.”

Students starting staring at each other. Trying ti find out who was the second one. They didn't have to wait long.

“Second place is (y/n) Chisaka, the second recommended by Pro Hero Endeavour.”

You sighed and looked at Shoto. You heard a few of the other names. But it didn’t matter. You had gotten second. Second place. Again. To Shoto. Again. It was a never-ending cycle. You lived in second place. You lived in his shadow. You were naive to think that three years of training could beat talent.

When you were released you stormed past everyone and out of the school grounds. You heard students whisper crude things like, ‘What's she so upset about?’ ‘whys she so pissed, she got second,’ ‘who shoved a stick up her ass’

It made you want to scream. Nobody understood. You wanted to beat Todoroki. You needed to.

It was getting to be sunset but you still roamed the streets of Musufatsu. You didn’t want to go home quite yet. You were, after all the neighbors of the Todorokis. Actually, while you were storming off in your fit of rage you heard Shoto call out to you. He most likely wanted to walk home with you. But you left before he could even ask. You used your quirk to get away quicker. It was a useful quirk. You could summon water. Well, technically your quirk was being able to control the elements, you didn’t use the majority of your quirk. You only used it to create water droplets from the air around you to use in battle. Back in elementary school, you used it to try and drown a kid.

You stopped to buy a meat skewer before continuing your trek. You stopped at a quaint park. It was quiet and peaceful. Well, it looked quiet and peaceful. Instead, you saw there a spikey-haired blonde.

“Oi, what are you staring at!” he yelled, meeting his eyes with yours.

“I’m staring at you.” You weren’t going to beat around the bush. You truly were staring at him. That was another thing about you. You were blunt.

The blonde’s face turned a little red. “Why?”

“Did you take the U.A. entrance exam?” You asked him.

“Yeah,” he responded.

“Let’s make a deal.”

And so in the moonlight at the park (y/n) Chisaka made a deal with the infamous Katsuki Bakugou. A contract of a sort. For three years they’d be somewhat partners. They shared the same goal. They wanted to be number 1. Why did (y/n) choose this temperamental boy? She saw the potential and spirit that he had. She saw his quirk and decided to tame the fiery dragon. And now that she had a partner she was one step closer to beating Shoto Todoroki.
