Chapter 1: Phones

Chapter Text

The tapping of a computer's keyboard is what usually fills in the silence of the room at Spirits and Such but lately it's been chatter from his employees. Although Reigen should have seen this coming because most of his employees are literally middle schoolers, that and due to business being slow. Ever since Reigan "banned" mobile devices from work they started bringing their gaming conceals to past time.

"Don't use your phone while you're working Tome, put it away." Reigan said with an annoyed tone

"What? Why??"

"Because you're working, Because it looks unprofessional."

"Pfft, dude-"

"Don't call me dude, I'm your boss."

"....... fine, "BOSS" it don't matter if I look "professional" cuz there's no one here to look professional for. There hasn't been anyone in like what... 3 days?? Right kageyama-kun?" Tome says while turning her direction towards Mob.

"Oh, uh... let me look." Mob pulls out a notebook from his desk and flips through its pages to find it's stop, "hmmm... Well it's actually been 4 days Tome, That is if we're not counting master Reigan's ZOOM exorcisms.

“See “BOSS”, we don’t need to act professional when there’s literally no clients coming in, well in person that is.” Tome finishes as she lounges while pulling out her phone with a smirk on her face.

Now Reigan isn’t one to be super strict but ever since he hired Tome, she brought some bad habits into the company. She would come late to her shifts, open snacks and eat them loudly while clients were talking, flirt with the girl clients from different schools and Reigan can excuse those bad habits, she’s a middle schooler after all but lately it’s been her phone usage is what Reigan found troublesome.

He would ask Tome to do the simplest tasks and 1 hour later she would still be on her phone saying she didn’t hear him; like that’s a good excuse. What’s worse is that his other employees have been picking up her bad habits as well, Teru, Shou, sometimes Serizawa, even Ritsu and he doesn’t work here! But it was when Mob started picking up on this habit that Reigan knew this phone problem had gotten way out of hand and that he needed to draw the line.

It was almost closing time and Reigan called for an important work meeting.

“Now, is everyone here?" Reigan said as he sat down with his cup of tea in his hand; setting it down on top of a coaster.

“Well there’s only 6 of us that work here other than you. So yeah.” Tome said looking around that very small office.

“That was a rhetorical quest-”

“Why didn’t you just send us an email? Would be faster tbh” Shou replied

“CaN yOU GuYS jUSt GivE mE ThiS?! PLeaSe!?” Reigen said in a tired but raspy voice.

Everyone stayed silent seeing that Reigan is actually being serious about this meeting if he really wants it to be in person. Reigan took a moment to drink his cup of tea to clear out his throat.

“Look, I’ve noticed that there’s been a lot of distraction going on in the office lately and I wanted to talk about it with you guys and how I’m going to add a new company rule because of it. I understand business has been slow but that doesn’t mean y’all have to be on your phone, what happens when a client comes in and all they see is you guys on your phones? It unprofessional for the business and makes it look like I’m babysitting all of you which technically I am now that I think about it. I-” Reigen gets cut off by Teru’s phone’s ringtone “tik tok” by Ke$ha.

“Sorry about that.” Teru pulls out his phone to look at the caller ID, “It’s my mom.” he says as he hangs up only to continue to send a text, then shuts off his phone and puts it in the his back pocket. “Anyway, you were saying” Teru replies unfazed.

Reigan’s eyebrows twitch, “This is exactly what I mean, I know you’re middle schoolers but you're also working in a company, my company and in my company I want my employees to look professional or at least to pay attention to the clients. I don’t think it's too much to ask, especially since I’m basically paying to babysit all of you and I’ll let you guys know that Spirits and Such have been doing just fine with it only being Serizawa, Mob and I. That being said. It’s now company rule that there will be no phones allowed, only Serizawa, Mob and I are allowed to use our phones and that’s that.” Reigan finishes being a bit proud with himself for taking control for the good of his company.

“Wait, why does Mob get to use his phone?!?” Tome asks while hitting her palm on the table.

“That’s because I trust Mob to not get distracted and he follows through with his tasks, he's also been working here longer than all of you combined." Reigan replies with a “matter of fact” tone.

“Yeah, yeah. I guess.” Tome says as she sits back down crossing her arm obviously showing her disagreement towards Reigan's rebuttal.

“Okay, anyone else have any questions? No? Great. Starting tomorrow, no phones!”

The next day was the day when Reigan knew that yes, that was too much to ask from a bunch of middle schoolers. Especially the ones who work for him.
