Another day, another insufferable moment trapped inside.
Jimin felt as if he was going insane, the walls of his room growing dull the longer he looks at them. Hours spent sitting in silence and daydreaming of a brighter life he could be having. The day continues to drag on like normal.
The same routine being done over and over again, waking up, checking his phone, reading, and then not leaving his room. He barely had enough energy to lift his arm, let alone stand and walk out of his room to get food.
It’s safe to say, Jimin wasn’t taking good care of himself.
His only saving grace was his boyfriend who lives over 800 miles away. They had been together for over a year now. And Jimin couldn’t be happier knowing someone loved him as much as he loved them. Love never had a particularly good impression on him, so falling in love and wanting to be close, having that feeling be reciprocated… it was nice.
Except life was too cruel sometimes.
They couldn’t visit each other, because despite living in the same country, they were too far to simply drive over to each other.
Jimin hated it. He wanted to hold his boyfriend and press soft kisses to his cheeks and run his fingers through his hair. He wanted to hold hands and listen to music together. And he knew his boyfriend wanted that too, the many nights of talking about how much they want it seered into his memory.
Taehyung .
His ever loving boyfriend who meant so much to him, who had a bit of a rough home life and who Jimin believed deserved so much better, who struggled so often, but was too far for Jimin to help. It made him feel useless sometimes, knowing his Taehyungie was suffering through something and he couldn’t be there physically to help him. The most he could do was send a message, occasionally call, and hope it helped even a little.
Jimin wished he could do more.
And when the month of his boyfriend’s birthday came, he decided to do something. He decided to get off his ass and write something for Taehyung. His boyfriend deserved so much more than what Jimin can give, but for now, this is what he can do.
It takes minimal effort once he starts writing to find the words he needs to say, feelings he needs to get across come easily. Insecurities and loneliness, wanting Taehyung to find his happiness, wanting him to smile because it’s more enchanting than the moon at night, wanting him to understand Jimin’s feelings, and their promise to each other.
Jimin finished writing the song a few days before Taehyung’s birthday, and to make it just a bit more special, he decided to record himself singing it.
He sets up his phone to record him, his freshly dyed blonde hair falling down against his face, the oversized sweater he’s shown a million times to Taehyung, the paper filled with lyrics, and the lights in the room dimmed to set a bit of a mood, a soft and orange glow filled the room.
And then the camera started recording.

Taehyung wasn’t particularly excited for his birthday, it’s truly just another day of the year. The only difference is, he gets gifts, some he looks forward to and some he didn’t expect.
Another day all the same.
He woke up to too many messages from his boyfriend, all telling him happy birthday and sending kisses. Taehyung refuses to admit he smiled because of Jimin being cute. The cute memes he saved in his photos and the selfies he sent with him smiling as brightly as the sun.
Jimin.
Taehyung wasn’t much for asking a lot out of his boyfriend, knowing the other feels the same way in regards to gifts.
“You don’t have to do anything for me, a simple message is enough.” Is what Taehyung had said a few days prior, to which Jimin vehemently disagreed with. Something about wanting to do something because it’s a special day.
It didn’t feel like a special day, but maybe that’s just him.
He received gifts from his family, a few messages from some friends and then it all went back to normal.
Or it should have.
Because not too much after noon, Jimin sent him a video with the caption, “Promise- Happy Birthday” plus a few hearts and a kissing emoji which was just like Jimin.
He sat up and pulled out his headphones so he could watch the video without anyone else hearing it, which is what he normally did if Jimin sent a video.
A soft looking Jimin appears in the video, his new hair showing under the orange glow in the room, he sees his mouth start moving before he even recognizes that Jimin is singing. His soft voice fills Taehyung’s ears.
I sit alone, slumped down
And I break myself down with these thoughts

The truth is that’s a lie
Taehyung doesn’t even feel the tears sliding down his cheeks, too focused on Jimin, with matching tears on his face, barely noticeable with the lighting.
That's intentional I bet.
Taehyung focuses back on the song and Jimin.

Jimin has a soft smile on his face as he sings, Taehyung didn’t think he could fall even more in love.

That’s not what I truly think
Jimin peeks at the camera a few times, a small smile staying on his face as his cheeks shine with tears that fall even more now than before. Taehyung hears his voice crack a few times and hears the hitch in his breathing.
He wants to wrap him up and hold him, he wants to wipe the tears away.

Taehyung muffles a cry, tears flowing freely down his cheeks, he loves hearing Jimin sing, it's his favorite voice, his favorite person.

Oh, oh, oh, oh, hold on for a moment
Intertwine our pinkies

The final push before Taehyung can push down the sob trying to get out, is Jimin looking into the camera, cheeks tear stained and flushed, huge smile forming and a whisper of “I love you”.
Taehyung has to put his phone down for a moment and let the tears fall and let his chest tighten before allowing himself to see the new message from Jimin.

Taehyung lets a laugh fall from his lips, Jimin just had to go and make him cry huh?
me: i cried you ass, that was beautiful and i need to watch it a hundred more times
me: talk tomorrow
sunshine: YOURE JUST GONNA LEAVE ME???? I WORKED HARD ON THAT THIS MONTH
me: which is why i need to listen to it more thank you for proving my point
sunshine: unbelievable, absolutely unbelievable
sunshine: im glad you like it baby, i love you
me: i love you, so much
Before he goes to sleep that night, Taehyung replays the video, and for the first time in a while, falls asleep smiling with minimal tears.
