Work Text:
It had been a couple rough weeks for Furuya between training, the matches and her ankle injury. So she decided she’d go all out for her Halloween costume, she would just need to find one she felt the best version of herself in.
So, everyday she couldn’t train as usual as she recovered, the little part of her brain actually capable of not focusing on baseball, was hyper focused on finding the best character to dress up as.
The only problem was that everyday when she thought she had found the perfect costume, once she tried it on, she felt like she didn’t look as good as she expected, her buff arms and rater broad shoulders making the clothing either too tight or look like she was trying to do a butch version of those characters, the femenine side of those characters coming out as too forced, and that made her spiral down a dysphoria rollercoaster.
It wasn’t as if Furuya didn’t like her muscles as they were the result of all her intense training. She didn’t care if people thought they made her pass less, because passing wasn’t her end goal, being a pro baseball player was.
She was actually proud of her muscles, she loved being buff, she loved how they looked when she wore certain clothes, or how her long legs looked in skinny jeans and dresses. It was that none of the costumes she had chosen made her feel femenine while also helping her highlight the figure she was so proud of and helped her feel comfortable in her own skin.
And so Furuya coped the only way she knew how when she felt like this.
She went to her room on the team’s day off practice because Coach Kataoka forced her to not train so she could fully heal and if he stayed in the field, she knew she would get even more stressed and restless, and once she was there she turned on her laptop, put on headphones, and watched “The Addams Family” 1991’s film, since that was one of her favourite films ever for various reasons.
Not only did she find the plot to be very good and funny in equal parts and make her forget about her problems as she watched, but Morticia Addams was a character she had always seen herself into.
Morticia was a character that made her feel empowered and beautiful and who helped her be proud of and celebrate her transness.
Morticia Addams was actually THE character that made her realize she was trans, like few years ago when she was watching the film she realized she wanted to BE morticia and not actually be WITH her -she did crush on Morticia too, but that had been her only crush on women ever since. And while she was remembering that fact that always made her chuckle, it was as if a lightbulb went off inside her brain and she actually surprised herself because how she didn’t think of that before that moment was astonishing now that the idea had taken roots in her mind.
Furuya Satoru decided that she would dress as Morticia Addams for Halloween that year.

It had been two weeks since the day Furuya had come up with the most perfect costume she had had so far in her life and she was more excited for Halloween to come already everyday that passed.
She had been working on finding the perfect clothes to become Morticia for a day because what was the point if she didn’t go all out and was the best goth glam version of herself.
So far she had the perfect dress, the perfect mix of elegance and seductive, with enough cleavage to show her body off without being indecent, hugging her body in all the right places. That combined with her pair of black high heeled shoes adding around 3 inches to her height, her legs seeming impossibly longer, would make her tower over pretty much everyone on the baseball team, making her feel powerful.
She also had some spare jewelry she inherited from her grandmother she could use that went well with the outfit, like her blood red pendant and its matching earrings the same colour her nails would be painted, to add a touch of color to the, otherwise, monochrome outfit.
As for the hair, Furuya decided she would just wear her hair down as usual and not waste time or money or time looking for a wig, if people didn’t know who she was even if her hair was just shoulder length, it wasn’t her fault they had no good taste when it came to films.
And for the make-up, she gathered some courage and asked the managers if they could help her with it to which the girls happily agreed, eager to help their fellow friend impress everyone who saw her.

And when the finally came, the Seido baseball team had the day off and so they would be able to have a little party, supervised by Rei and the coaches, that would start around 5pm and would last until 10pm at the latest, they still had school and practice the following days so they couldn’t afford to be slacking much.
And so, at 4:30pm, Furuya was heading to Haruno’s room, where she would get dressed up and get her make-up done.
It all took a little bit longer than the managers and Furuya expected, the party had started around ten minutes ago, but when Takako did the finishing touches and held a mirror so the pitcher could see herself, Furuya almost didn’t recognize herself, her lips a vibrant red that contrasted very well with the dark eyeshadow, and her hair styled in a way that framed and highlighted her cheekbones in an almost accidental way.
For a moment Furuya didn’t believe her reflection was actually her, not until a little smile appeared on her face and the image in the mirror smiled back at her.
And when Furuya showed up, fashionably late, into the room where the party was taking place, she felt not only beautiful but also empowered and powerful, happy to be able to celebrate her transness surrounded by people who supported her.
Once she stepped into the room, she felt all eyes turn and fall on her, some eyebrows being raised as they looked at her as no one expected Furuya to go all out on something that wasn’t baseball.
But there were only some people whose opinion Furuya cared about that day, and so she looked around for them.
She didn’t need to look much as she heard Sawamura’s voice talking with Miyuki. Apparently, two of the three people who she wanted to impress, didn’t even realize she had arrived at the party as Miyuki laughed at whatever stupidity Sawamura had just said.
That lit Furuya’s inner fire, a little sweet petty smile on her face as she would be able to see their first impression from up close when they two boys realized she was there.
And so she slowly approached them, but she didn’t go to where Miyuki and Sawamura were but she went to talk to Haruichi, who after the initial shock of seeing Furuya look so good was finally able to collect themselves and tell Furuya something along the lines of “you look very nice” as they blushed a color that rivalled their pink hair.
Haruichi’s words made Furuya’s anger subdue a bit as she softly smiled at them and bent down to kiss their kiss, leaving there a vibrant red mark, before thanking her shortest boyfriend for their kind words and returning them by telling Haruichi how cute they looked as the lonely cowboy Lucky Luke, which made Haruichi’s blush deepen even more.
Upon hearing her voice, Miyuki and Sawamura finally realized Furuya had arrived at the party and turned towards where their girlfriend was.
But what they saw left them breathless, mouth open whatever words they would have spoken lost forever as they looked up at Furuya‘s face, whose eyes had a fiery look that went from an “about time you two noticed me”, as she towered over them more than normal, to a proud look and smile as she assessed their reactions as the ones she had expected from them.
The first one to recover from the shock of seeing Furuya look so absolutely stunning was, surprisingly enough, Eijun, as he proved the theory of him having no filter between his brain and mouth and never thinking twice what he was about to say. His exact words being unintelligible but his first message being something like “You look very beautiful and intimidating as if a badass goddess decided to walk among us…” before he started rambling about how unfair it was that she looked so good because now she felt underdressed in her Kiba costume, comment that made Furuya almost laugh, as she proudly smiled as she looked down to Eijun, a happy look on her face, before doing something quite out of character for her and hugged Sawamura, what made the people around them to look at her with surprise in their face, as she never was so open with her affection in public.
That hug accomplished the impossible task of making Sawamura be silent while it lasted before he started yelling how lucky he was from receiving a hug from Furuya, making people laugh and roll their eyes at his antics as they told him to shut up.
As for Miyuki, he had been weirdly silent while this display took place, his brain completely blank of any words to say as he looked in awe and amazement towards Furuya as she looked so comfortable and proud of herself, which Miyuki thought made her look even more dazzling than the beautiful costume she was wearing, as a fond look and smile adorned his handsome features and not even when Furuya turned to look at him was he able to do nothing to conceal it.
Some of his naturally cheeky personality returning when Furuya asks if he is seeing something he likes and he replies with a “More like I don’t see nothing I don’t like”, his cockiness making an appearance as he looked at Furuya eyebrow raised, which Furuya ignored, turning his face away before could see the faint blush appearing in her face and failing as Miyuki saw it, a smirk on his face before she asked the pitcher to lean down so he could kiss her, to which Furuya agreed but not before she rolled her eyes at her boyfriend’s awful personality that always managed to make her feel better somehow.

In the end, the Halloween party was a success and Furuya had a great time surrounded by her boyfriends, teammates and friends being able to be openly herself, being the dumbass teenage girl everyone knew her to be when outside the diamond and taking pictures for the posterity and to remind herself how good she felt all throughout that night as she felt as powerful as she did when she was standing on the mound, the ace number on her back.
