Work Text:

He watched you stand there, tears brimming in your eyes, body trembling. He didn’t think he’d ever feel remorse for ever hurting you. His butterfly. His features softened as he gazed towards you but it went unnoticed. The wind blew against your face, tousling your hair.

“Why… why would you lead me on like this,” you mumble out. “Was everything all just a lie?” Your heart thundered in your ear as your brain tried to think of ways to justify his actions.
“No, it’s not,” he started. “If I said that, would you believe me?” Your eyes widen in denial. Everything you knew about him came crashing down into a whirlpool of doubt.

‘All the smiles and laughter… was it all fabricated so I would fall into this cobweb of false hope?’ You let out a dry laugh, filled with disbelief. Tears streamed down your face as you turn on your heel.
“I can’t trust you anymore…” You cry out before running off. His colour slowly fading away, returning to his once monochrome world. There he finally let out all his regrets into a single silent tear.

You storm into your apartment, throwing your purse into a corner before rushing into your bedroom. You flop down onto your bed as tears constantly fall. You reach out for the butterfly plushie he had won you not to long ago in an amusement park, crushing it within your arms. Tears soaking through the fabric.

You ran up to Lucien with a smile on your face. Your white with a blue lace trimmed dress dancing with the wind. His violet eyes taking in your form, bright against the dull world. You rush up to circle your arm with his before dragging him along. After riding multiple rollercoasters, you head over to the carnival games.
“Lucien look! Can we try that?” you chirped out in glee. He knew it was a dumb but still went along with her shenanigans. He watched you struggle to get a prize. You gaze towards him with pleading eyes, like a lost puppy. He chuckled before he took a turn, instantly winning a prize. The attendee stared in awe before continuing.
“Mr, what would you like?” Lucien glanced towards you, giving you the go to choose. You beamed a bright smile towards him before letting your eyes travel to the prizes. Your attention was quickly caught by a butterfly plushie and pointed towards it.
“That one!” you exclaimed. The attendee took it from the rack and handed it over to you.
“Thank you Lucien! I’ll make sure to treasure it forever~”

~~~~~~~~~~~
You sobbed into it as you reminisced the memory, crying yourself to sleep. Lucien silently returned to his apartment. Sitting down by the wall closest to your bed, curled up with his hands to his head. Your cries seeping through the wall.
You woke up with dry eyes and a bloated face. Signalling you that everything that happened was all real. Before you could even start crying again, you head towards the bathroom to freshen up and head over to LFG.
You let out a sigh in front of Victor’s office, hands tightly gripping the report, crumpling it. You lightly knocked on the door before hearing his deep voice to come in. He sat behind his desk, glasses on his face. Victor glanced up and took in your appearance. Your posture slouched with your head tilted down. His face remained neutral but his eyes read worry.
Before you could even start, he cut you off.
“Why do you look so tired? Didn’t I tell you that if you need a break, just tell me?”
“I know…” you whispered out, unwilling to explain what happened. He sighed before shaking his head.
“We can do your report another day. I’ll pick you up from your work at 7. Don’t be late.” You let out a sigh of relief.
“Thank you…” You slip out the office before heading towards your company.
You quickly packed up and rushed down towards the elevator. Not wanting to irritate Victor. As the numbers descended down, all your thoughts were once again filled by Lucien. You shook your head, trying to get rid of the memory as the elevator chimed. The doors slid open, as you stepped out into the cold night, Victor’s car idle by the sidewalk. You quickly ran up to the car before opening the door.
“Sorry I’m slightly late,” you whispered
“Dummy, take all the time you want.” The car engine started, speeding off into the night. The violet eyes followed after the retreating vehicle. Growing colder and distant.
Pain slowly bled into his chest. His colour being ripped away from his grasps, slipping through his fingers like water. He never thought a naive little girl who he planned to manipulate for humanity’s evolution would have such an effect on him. He should have never gotten attached but your brightness filled up his stale world. Drawing him into your charm unexpectedly, only to lose you.
Each day that passed by without ever hearing from Lucien again, your heart started to heal. Victor patiently helped you along the way, even if he still did his daily jibe. He distracted you away from anything that would remind you of the neuroscientist. All the outing Victor would invite you to slowly turned into dates.
Lucien continued to watch you get taken away from him. That dumb butterfly plushie he won you got thrown away by you in anger not too long ago. He never felt his heart pound that loud before as he searched for it before it was truly gone. Lucien would hold it in his arms to keep him sane, to make him think that you were still together. But of course he knew that he didn’t deserve you after all the pain he made you go through. In the end, he just tried to justify to himself that you were just a part of his plan and the pain he felt was just the desire to see colour again. But he knew better than that.
“I miss and want you more than I should…”
