Summary:

Helping out in the library are usually slow days. There's not much to do but sorting books back on the shelves, and even when there are any people visiting, it's quiet. Tasuku doesn't really mind it, no. It's simply a fact that he misses the health committee and would rather be there. But this is fine.

Written for the hurt/comfort bingo, the prompt "minor illness/injury".

Work Text:

Helping out in the library are usually slow days. There's not much to do but sorting books back on the shelves, and even when there are any people visiting, it's quiet. Tasuku doesn't really mind it, no. It's simply a fact that he misses the health committee and would rather be there. But this is fine.

Touma hasn't had time to visit yet, probably busy with his work in the health committee. It's fine though, they do occasionally still see each other in the hallway, or when they meet up with Tachibana to grab a bite of food.

(He only misses him a bit.)

Even though summer break is over and the semester has started again, the day is hot. Inside the library is cool, the only consolation he'll get. A little while ago he heard some students talking about heading down to the beach, but Tasuku is still stuck in the library.

Maybe he can see if Touma is free after he's finished, and they can head down to the beach together. He's been weirdly affectionate and all up in his personal space lately, but Tasuku is not about to let that come between them.

He takes the book trolley with him between the isles of bookshelves, sorting the books back to their correct spot. Some of them go far up on the shelves and he has to stand on his toes to reach, but it's fine. The day is slow and the library is quiet around him.

But for one book he reaches a little too far up, stands a little too high up on his toes and loses his balance. He almost falls, but he manages to catch himself on the shelf. It's awkward, with the book still held in his hand, and the shelf wobbles precariously.

It doesn't topple over, but when he glances up he sees a book that hasn't been pushed far enough in on the shelf, sees it wobble, and... And then it falls.

He barely has enough time to turn his head to the side, the book falling heavy against his temple. He groans from the pain, sinking down onto the sole of his feet and further, until he's crouched down next to the trolley. The book lays crooked on the floor, having fallen open during its fall.

He can't bring himself to pick it back up just yet.

He tries to will the dizziness away, hoping it will pass soon so that he can stand back up and finish putting the books away.

"Tasuku, are you here?" he hears, some moments later, floating down from a few isles away. Before he can answer he hears footsteps coming closer and then Touma comes into view.

Touma makes some kind of noise of surprise and sinks down into a crouch beside him. "Are you okay?"

Tasuku hums as answer, not sure himself what exactly he means by it. "The book fell," he says, nodding towards the book on the floor.

Oh. That was a bad idea. The world around him spins, and he shoots out a hand to grip onto something to keep from falling.

Touma's arm, it turns out to be, and said boy hurries to steady Tasuku.

"Did it hit you?"

"Yeah," Tasuku says, closing his eyes.

"Your head?"

Tasuku thinks he answers, pretty sure he does, but the next moment Touma is snapping his fingers in front of him.

"You can't go to sleep, stay awake."'

"Okay," Tasuku replies, the world seeming more steady now. He's probably fine.

"Do you think you can stand up?" Touma asks, one hand sliding under Tasuku's armpit. "I'll help you get to the nurse."

Tasuku refrains from nodding this time and instead says, "Yeah, I think I'm feeling a bit better already."

His legs feels a little weak, but Touma keeps his hands on him, steadying and guiding him all the way to the nurse.

She suggests that they head to the hospital to make sure that he doesn't have a concussion, considering he was feeling dizzy, and Touma helps him get all the way there, too.

After, when the doctor has told them that it's not a concussion, but he should be taking it calm for at least the coming hours, Touma pulls him down to the beach and buys them each an ice cream from a vendor.

There are some people playing volleyball together closer to the water, that Touma looks at for a few moments before turning to Tasuku.

"We can't join them, but at least we can walk along the beach together."

Like boyfriends, Tasuku thinks, but doesn't voice out loud.
