Chapter Text
"Ugh..." [Name] groaned, dropping their head on the table in frustration. "Online school fucking sucks." After closing all their tabs on their laptop, they started scrolling through their phone on social media.
"Nothing new, it seems. Hmm..?" Pausing, they clicked on a familiar looking post. "Oh, I remember this game. Kimi Ga Shine...also known as Your Turn To Die. Huh...it seems they finally released a manga for that. Haven't caught up with it after finishing the first part of chapter three...maybe I should check it out again. I finished all my schoolwork already, so..." Glancing at the time, they grinned. "I have a few hours before I have to sleep."
Opening up a new tab on their computer, they clicked on the first result to pop up. The link to the game. A familiar song played as the main menu showed up on their screen.
"Huh? Wait, what's this...?" After clicking begin, an unfamiliar text box popped up.
[ Enter the game? ]
[Yes] [No]
'Wait, this wasn't here before...I think?' Confused, they clicked on no, just wanting to play the game.
[...]
[ You cannot decline. ]
[ Enter the game? ]
[Yes] [Yes]
"What the fuck, is this some DDLC shit now? I don't remember anyone saying stuff about this online..." [Name]'s eyebrows furrowed, sitting back a bit to think. "If I can't decline, it's possible this is a virus or something, but..."
They tried clicking and holding the power button, but the text stayed. Eyes widening, they stood still as they saw the screen flash colors showing more text boxes.
[ ... ]
[ Just click the option. This is a once in a lifetime opportunity. ]
[ If you try to decline... ]
There was no more text after that, and the options appeared on the screen again.
"Gah, I can't do anything else, can I?" Sighing, they clicked on yes hesitantly. "Hopefully I don't die or something..."

[ Your decision was received. Thank you for playing. ]
[ Loading up Your Turn To Die: Player Edition... ]
"Player Edition...?" [Name] mumbled. Suddenly a wave of exhaustion passed over them, making them stumble and their vision go blurry. "W-Wait, hold on..."
Struggling to stay awake, their eyes saw a blurry silhouette of a person on the screen, before they finally closed.
"...Mmrgh?" Slowly opening their eyes, [Name] blinked as they woke up in a dimly lit room. Looking around, they discovered they were sitting on a chair, in the middle of a spotlight shining down on them.
"This looks like the recap of the beginning of chapter three, if I remember correctly. Except I'm in the chair...?" They thought. "Thank God I'm in the same clothes..."
"Hey there. Can you hear me?" A voice spoke out from the shadows, slightly startling them. "Ah, don't look so shocked. You wanted to come here, after all. But, I see you're awake now, so I guess I understand why."
"So everyone has voices now, I see...was wondering whether I'd be reading text boxes or not." [Name] mumbled. "Also, could you not greet people like that, whoever you are? You're giving me flashbacks from SDR2."
"Ahaha, I see you have a bit of humor." They chuckled. "Anyways, I'm guessing you want me to give you an explanation of why you're here. As you recognized, you're in the recap part of chapter three of Your Turn To Die, the very game you started up!"
"So...I really am here? I'm not dreaming or something, am I? I'm pretty sure I passed out." [Name] remembered.
"Yes, you are actually in the game. That's why it's called Player Edition, obviously." [Name] could sense that they were rolling their eyes, probably annoyed at them. "Currently, this is your First Trial."
"W-Wait, my First Trial? But, I'm alone...? I don't see anyone else doing this with me."
"Ugh, you really haven't played the game in a while, have you? Some people had their first trials on their own, if you remember correctly." They clicked their tongue.
"...! Right, Sou—" [Name] coughed. "I mean, Shin, received the papers on his own, if I remember right...also Q-Taro who was forced to place the role cards."
"Mhm. At least you remember. Well, for most of them, it was a traumatic trial, but for you, I'm really just gonna explain what you're doing here. That's all."
"Alright."
"As I said before, this is your First Trial. It also bonuses as an alibi, I guess. You'll be sent to the first floor where the others are, but if you wanna ask me a few questions first, that's fine. Although, we do have a limited amount of time, so be quick about it." They explained.
"Um, first, since I'm being...uh, added into the game, will I be in the participant list or candidate list?" [Name] asked.
"Hmm...I think so. If you weren't, you would immediately be suspicious, which wouldn't be good, now would it?"
"...That makes sense, I guess. Will I go back to the normal world once I finish chapter three, or will I get to see part two?"
[Name] heard a muffled laugh. "Eager, aren't you? No, part two hasn't been released yet, so you'll go back. However, the second it releases, you will be sent back. The second you clicked the option to go here, you were bound to this game."
"...Bound to this game? What do you mean?"
"Yes, you are now bound to this game, but unfortunately, I cannot answer any questions about that. I apologize."
"Hmph, fine. Keep your secrets." [Name] huffed.
"Heh, seems we have about enough time for one more question."
"Only one more?! Damn, gotta make this one count then...!"
Thinking hard, [Name] tried to think of anymore important questions to ask the shadowed person.
"...! There is one...but..."
"What is it?"
Taking a deep breath, they steeled themselves for the answer. "...Can I die here?"
"..." They hummed in response. "...Yes, you can."
[Name]'s eyes widened. "...! Isn't that illegal or something?! That's like saying I walked into a total death trap...!"
"Well, you chose to play this game. The whole point of it is death, is it not?"
"....."
"Well, it seems that is all for questions. You will be sent to the first floor now. See you..."
"W-Wait, right now?! Hold up—!"
Before they could even react, the floor below [Name] opened up.
"Shit, I'm falling...!"
As they felt they would keep falling forever, [Name] slowly felt their consciousness slip away once more.
