    Summary

Professor Chu wasn’t scary at all, only striking. Severe. Hard to look at for too long without aching, and hard to look away from without feeling his absence.
Chu Wanning’s beauty was Mo Ran’s first taste of verse. It was born of the same stickiness, that thing that splits you open and stays with you, that you turn over so many times it’s hard to remember a time before you knew it. He found it in the curt obscurity of Dickinson, in the honest musicality of Hayden. In time, Mo Ran learned that liking Chu Wanning was a lot like liking poetry; you had to dig past the surface to find the bones of it.

(In which English professor Chu Wanning and his teacher's assistant Mo Ran struggle to maintain a professional relationship. Feat. pining, poetry, and a completely inappropriate use of Chu Wanning's office hours.)
