Ashbert

Summary:

Here are some one shots that I couldn’t think of titles for.

Chapter Text

Ash wasn’t sure when he’d fallen asleep, after an eight hour late night shift at Value Stop he was pretty much ready to collapse when he made it home, especially after the power to the store had gone out about fifteen minuets before the end of his shift. Meaning that he was stuck helping the few other people that were left in the store cover up all of the products that needed to be kept refrigerated and/or frozen in hopes of keeping them from spoiling so he didn’t get home until a good hour after he was supposed to. He couldn’t even be bothered to change into his sleep clothing, only managing to strip down to his boxers before flopping into his and Herbert's shared bed, only being able to muster up enough extra effort to give the doctor a kiss on the cheek as he read for his scientific journals, the smaller man still dressed in his every day clothing.
“Long day?” Herbert asked turning the page of his book only receiving a groan from the other as he lay face down on the bed “that bad, hm” Ash felt the doctor running his fingers trough his hair
That was the last thing he remembered before he suddenly woke up with a start, looking around the room wondering what could’ve woken him up when he realized that he was now alone in the room. Reaching over he clicked on his bedside lamp and looked over at the night on Herbert's side of the bed, checking if his glasses were there which they weren’t. So that could only mean one thing. Groaning Ash kicked off the blankets and swung his legs over the edge of the mattress, making his way down to the basement lab where he surprisingly wasn’t greeted to the smell of chemicals and/or the distinctive scent of decay. Running his fingers through his messy hair he forced open the door to the lab, spotting Herbert hunched over his desk, looking over what appeared to be his notes.
“What’cha doin’ down here, Herbie?” Ash asked leaning against the door frame, causing Herbert to jump a bit as he obviously hadn’t heard the other man coming in
“I’m just looking over some of my notes” Herbert said, turning to face Ash
“That’s it?” Ash asked, raising an eyebrow as he walked up to Herbert, looking around the lab as he did so “no cadavers that need to be put away or chemicals you need to monitor?”
“No” Herbert said, growing suspicious
“Alrighty then” Ash said, bending down so he could throw the smaller man over his shoulder
“What are you doing!?” Herbert demanded, feeling his cheeks heating up, especially once he felt the others prosthetic hand grouping his ass
“It’s two in the morning” Ash said beginning the trek up to the second floor “it’s time for bed”
“I...”
“You are not injecting more of that shit into yourself!” Ash exclaimed “I don’t care how diluted it is. It can’t be safe”
Herbert could only huff and pout once he realized that Ash wasn’t going to let him have his way, crossing his arms across his chest defiantly as he resigned himself to his fate as he was carried up to the bedroom. Kicking open the bedroom door Ash tossed Herbert onto their bed before crawling in after him, quickly wrapping the smaller man in his arms to prevent him from escaping again as he used his prosthetic hand to remove Herbert's glasses and set them aside so they wouldn’t be damaged.
“Let go of me” Herbert demanded sounding very annoyed while making absolutely no effort to get out of the taller mans hold
“Are you going to go back down to the lab?” Ash asked
“No, but I would like you change into some sleep clothing”
“Alright” Ash sighed releasing his hold
Without a moments hesitation Herbert got out of bed, quickly undoing his tie so he could strip down to his underwear as well, removing the sock he used to pack with, but unlike Ash he made the effort to open up the dresser and slip into his sleep clothing, all the while Ash watched him out of one half opened eye waiting for him to get back in bed. Buttoning the last button on his night shirt Herbert crawled back into bed and got settled in next to Ash as he wrapped him up in his arms and threw a leg over the smaller mans hip.

Chapter 2: Bride of Re-Animator snippet

Summary:

Here’s an Ashbert snippet I of while I was watching Bride of Re-Animator

Chapter Text

“What the fuck is this?” Ash asked himself aloud as he pulled his car to a stop in front of the house, next to two cars he didn’t recognize. He knew that Dan was having a date over tonight so that explained one of the cars but the other was still a mystery. Getting out of the Delta, Ash circled around both of the cars, wanting to memorize at least a few details from each vehicle in case something were to happen. Once he was satisfied he picked the house key out on his ring so he could let himself inside and immediately felt his blood starting to boil.
Standing in front of the steps to the basement was Herbert; guarding them from some old man he’d never seen before, trying to force his way down them, slamming the shorter man into the wall. Making his way across the room Ash shoved himself between Herbert and the man, placing his hand on the doorframe as he did so.
“Who the hell are you!” Ash demanded, getting in the cops face
“I am Lieutenant Leslie Chapham and I…”
“Do you have a warrant? Did Dan or his date let you in?” Ash asked causing Chapham to stutter slightly as he clearly wasn’t prepared for this much of a comfortation “yeah I didn’t think so”
Grabbing the front of the lieutenant's shirt Ash dragged him over to the door, forcing him out of the house, slamming it behind him all the while Herbert was looking at him with the slightest bit of awestruck.
“Are you ok?” Ash asked gently grabbing Herbert's chin with his thumb and finger
“Just a bit rattled I suppose” Herbert said as Dan and Franchesca came down the stairs looking concerned
“What’s goin’ on?” Dan asked as Franchesca held onto his arm
“Did you let anyone into the house?” Ash asked
“No” Dan and Franchesca said
“Then some guy just broke in” Ash said going off to check for broken windows or door frames
“Is he still here?” Franchesca asked worried
“No” Herbert said as Dan went off to also look for signs of a break in “Ash was able to force him out”
“Well” Dan said as he and Ash walked back into the living room “looks like he was able to force the back door open and that’s how he got in”
“Was anything taken?” Franchesca asked
“Don’t think so” Ash said “I’m Ash by the way”
“Franchesca. There should be some leftovers in the fridge that you’re welcome to help yourself to”
“Thanks” Ash said as Dan lead his date back up to his room
Now that they were alone Ash and Herbert walked into the kitchen together.
“So,” Ash said, cracking open a beer as he sat at the table after popping two plates of Dan and Franchesca leftovers into the microwave “why’d that guy want in the basement?”
“He was accusing me of taking bodies from work” Herbert said placing the re-heated food in front of Ash
“Well” Ash said taking a sip from his beer “he’s not wrong”
“Yes,” Herbert said, taking a seat next to the taller man “but that doesn’t explain why he was so determined to try and get down there. None of the other detectives that investigated the original case seemed like they really cared much about actually solving it”
“Huh” Ash said before digging into the plate in front of him “at least now we know to keep an eye out for him”
“I suppose” Herbert sighed, poking at the plate in front of him

Chapter 3

Summary:

Ash get’s hurt while he and Herbert work in the basement

Chapter Text

They hadn’t even been in the basement lab for an hour before something had gone wrong and the cadaver Herbert was working on broke free and began rampaging, knocking over beakers full of reagent, tables, and just creating a hazardous mess. Thankfully Ash had had the foresight to keep his boomstick down with them and was shooting at the reanimated body as he shielded Herbert with himself, keeping the smaller man behind him.
“Shit!” Ash growled when he missed an attempted headshot, suddenly wishing he kept his chainsaw prosthetic down here as well “how'd it break out of the restraints?”
“I don’t know!” Herbert snapped, loading his revolver so he could help take down the corpse “the cuffs must have become faulty”
Distracted by the argument Ash had a chair thrown straight into his gut, losing his grip on his shotgun as he collapsed to the ground clutching at his now bruised abdomen.
“Ash!” Herbert exclaimed in horror as he watched the taller man fall, barely dodging the swipe the corpse had made at his face
Holding up his revolver Herbert emptied the entire round straight into the reanimated head, effectively taking it down. Stepping around Ash Herbert gave the corpse a hard kick to the side, making sure it was down for good before going back to the taller man.
“Nice shootin’ there, baby” Ash grunted
“Come on” Herbert said struggling to get the larger man to his feet
Grunting Ash did what he could to help as they made their way back up to the main floor and over to the couch pulling out it’s mattress. Once Ash was laid out Herbert got to work on opening the larger man's shirt so he could examine the injuries to his chest, there was only some minor cuts to the area that had been hit but there was some serious bruising that was bad enough for Herbert to fear Ash may be bleeding internally.
“What’s the damage, Doc?” Ash asked after the smaller man had come back with a first-aid kit
“I’m afraid you may have internal bleeding” Herbert said as he disinfected Ash’s cut “I might have to take you to the hospital”
“What’re we supposed to tell them when they ask what happened?” Ash winced at the sting of the disinfectant
“I can only think of a home invasion, but that would just get the police involved, but it seems like the only option”
“Shit” Ash murmured as Herbert put bandages on his wounds
Running into the kitchen Herbert grabbed the keys to his car and got Ash back to his feet. Unfortunately, the closest hospital was the one Herbert worked at and as he waited out in the hall while Ash got a MRI scan he could feel his coworkers eyes on him and their gawking was getting on his nerves rather quickly; especially once Ash was back with him. He was trying to be mindful of how he was acting while Herbert's co-workers were around, but he was still Ash Williams so whether he realized it or not he was still being very physical with his partner and Herbert could feel himself becoming more and more flustered. Thankfully there was no internal bleeding so they didn’t have to stay overnight for observations and once they got home Herbert didn’t bother trying to get Ash up the steps and just laid him out on the couch bed, grabbing the covers from their room.
“So am I going to experience some of that famous Dr. West bedside charm?” Ash asked as Herbert laid out the mattress bed’s covers
“Now is not the time for jokes, Ashley” Herbert said sternly as he grabbed some pillows
“Come on Herby” Ash said as the shorter man sat on the edge of the bed, laying out the pillows “I’m just trying to lighten the mood a bit”
“There is nothing lighthearted about this situation!” Herbert snapped shooting to his feet “you could have been killed”
“Come here” Ash said, stretching out an arm, “I’ve survived more shit than most people have in ten lifetimes. A chair to the chest ain’t nothin’”
Despite his frustration Herbert did as he was asked, taking off his glasses before he rested his head on Ash’s shoulder, sighing happily when he felt the taller man's arm wrap around him.
