Work Text:
They say the eyes are the windows into the soul. Well, if that’s true then Miles’ soul was confused, frustrated, and disappointed in Phoenix.
“So you mean to tell me that you came to visit me in the middle of my working hours just to show me a cool rock you found?”, he asked.
Phoenix awkwardly looked down at the smooth stone lying in the palm of his hand.
“Well, when you put it that way I guess I should have thought more about this,” he said, “But I know how much you like to collect rocks, and you have to admit that this is a really cool rock.”
Miles raised his eyebrow at the attorney before looking down at the rock in question. It was some kind of dark-brown river stone with bands of orange streaking through it. He had to admit it, it was a pretty cool rock, but he wasn’t about to tell Phoenix that.
“What on earth are you saying, Wright?”, he huffed, “I have never said or done anything to give you the idea that I collect rocks. Just what do you think I do in my spare time?”
“I think you collect rocks in your spare time,” Phoenix replied, admittedly a bit too quickly.
Miles’ eyes could have burned a hole in Phoenix’s face with their gaze. They stayed like that for a moment before the prosecutor attorney sighed heavily and held out his hand.
“Well, you came all this way to give me that thing, so just give it to me and get out of my office,” he said. Phoenix’s mouth twisted into a good-natured smile as he gave Miles the rock.
“So you’re admitting you want the rock?”, he asked.
“Get out of my office,” Miles said flatly. Phoenix raised his hand in a defensive gesture.
“Okay then, I’m leaving, enjoy your rock,” he said.
After the attorney left the room, Miles looked down at the stone in his hand. He had to admit, it really was a cool rock. Perhaps he should start a rock collection after all. Although, he really shouldn’t tell Phoenix about it.

As soon as Phoenix left the room, he let out a pent-up breath of frustration and embarrassment. He pulled his mobile phone out of his pocket and immediately called his friend.
“Hey Maya... ugh, yeah, I did it... yes, I completed the dare... now can I please have my twenty dollars back?”
