Gravity and Spirit

Summary:

Ava Ventus is a high ranking member of the demon slayer corps, with the help of her canine companion Tempora - a strange dog who can use a breathing technique of her own - she has a pretty high demon kill count. She joined the corps for the same reason as her master, to find a cure for demonization, however after her master was killed by a demon finding a cure has become trickier. When they're suddenly thrown into battle against an all too familiar and powerful demon, with only mizunoto for backup, Ava and Tempora have to fight for their lives to take revenge for their fallen master.

Chapter 1: Breathing Techniques

Summary:

THIS IS NOT A PART OF THE STORY. THIS IS A LIST OF BREATHING TECHNIQUES USED DURING THE STORY.

(See the end of the chapter for notes.)

Chapter Text

This chapter is not a part of the story. Here the different breathing techniques used by the original characters are briefly defined. All techniques are described when used in the story, however I decided to add some extra details here in case anyone was interested. Upon posting the first chapter the techniques which the characters can use at the start of the story are defined here, a couple more will be added when the characters can use them later in the story.

Spirit Breathing - this technique is used by Ava Ventus and was used by Master Kihaki Dominus as seen in a flashback/dream. Spirit Breathing is a derivative of Wind Breathing which focusses on creating additional effects within the attacks.

First Form: Wind Sickle – A basic, air slashing attack, cuts through both air and opponents

Second Form: Reverse Wind Sickle – The reverse version of First Form: Wind Sickle, leaves a vacuum behind the slash which draws nearby opponents towards it

Third Form: Swift Storm – A versatile attack which slashes the opponent based on movements in air currents, able to react to the movements of opponents

Fourth Form: Wingbeat – A technique to produce ‘pockets’ of air beneath the user’s feet allowing for increased movement and ‘walking on air’, pockets can only be held for a short amount of time

Fifth Form: Pleasant Breeze of a Summers Day – A merciful attack which kills the opponent with little to no pain, used when the opponent has surrendered

Sixth Form: Twisting Whirlwind – The user creates a whirlwind by twisting the entire body fiercely, also creates a ‘blowback’ affect to repel any surviving opponents; can be combined with other techniques to increase strength

Seventh Form: Trigger Point – A fast and accurate stab made from within the opponent’s defences, fastest technique but leaves the user vulnerable if not the attack ends up non-lethal

Eighth Form: Air Strike – A strong slash boosted by air, creates an air current which sends the user in the opposite direction to the slash, the strongest spirit breathing technique based on raw power

Ninth Form: Falcon of the Swirling Skies – A continuous attack which gains strength the faster the user is moving

Spatial Breathing - this technique is used by Tempora. It was originally designed as Temporospatial Breathing, so some techniques effect time as well as space.

First Form: Bark of Time – Tempora unleashes a sharp, harsh bark which rips through space and time to blow her target away from her

Second Form: Woof Factor Nine – Tempora distorts the space around her and those surrounding her to teleport them to another location

Third Form: Space Walkies – Tempora fazes her body between dimensions to allow her to pass through solid objects

Fourth Form: Paws in Time – Tempora temporarily stops time and space in her surroundings to allow her to move while no one else in the area can, making it seem as though she has teleported/vanished to those around her

Combined Technique - this is a special technique in which Ava Ventus and Tempora combine their Spirit Breathing and Spatial Breathing abilities to form a new technique.

Spatial-Spirit Breathing: The Winds of Time – Tempora temporarily stops time and space in her surroundings for all except herself and Ava. Ava then conjures a unique wind that can move freely within the frozen space to attack the target. Combing their techniques leaves both Ava and Tempora physically exhausted after the attack.

Notes:

I apologise for all of the bad, space/dog based puns in Tempora's breathing techniques. Once I had the idea I just had to roll with it!
