It wasn’t that deep.
The Bakusquad had sleepovers all the time. It was no big deal.
But Jirou had never gone. She’d been invited, Mina pleading to have another girl at the sleepovers so she could have a pull on what movie they watched. But she’d never gone because of her crippling crush on Kaminari.
But since she was dating Kaminari now, she kind of wanted to be in on the action. It was a fun group, and they always included her in the daytime activities, so when Mina pleaded with her on Friday afternoon to meet with all of them in Bakugou’s room that night, she’d blurted out that she would come.
She’d been nervous, wondering what she would wear, if Kaminari would even want to cuddle with her during the movie, stupid things like that. For the former, she’d settled on a band t-shirt and loose pajama pants. After all, they were just going to be relaxing. There was no reason to dress up.
Kaminari had offered to come up and walk her over to Bakugou’s, but she’d declined. It would look lame if they’d met up before hand to walk over together. She was still absolutely head over heels for her boyfriend, yeah, but she never wanted to be seen as dependent on him. So she’d dressed and pulled her hair back, before heading over to Bakugou’s room.
She rapped on the door with her knuckles once, and was startled when the door flew open to see Mina’s beaming face.
“Hey, girl!” Mina squealed, throwing her arms around Jirou and dragging her into the room. She slammed the door to Bakugou’s room shut and grabbed Jirou by the shoulders, presenting her to the others in the room.
“Since it’s Jirou’s first sleepover with us, I think we should let her pick the movie!”
The room was covered in blankets and pillows, because Bakugou had proclaimed that only he was allowed in the bed (and sometimes Kirishima, but he would deny that if anyone asked) so the floor was an absolute maze of fluff.
“At least Ears has good taste,” Bakugou complained as he scrolled through his phone. “Pinky will pick some stupid ass shit.”
“Come on, man, I thought we agreed no insults for like, a minute?” Kirishima whined.
Mina ignored Bakugou’s dig and scampered over to Sero, throwing herself down at his side. Jirou let her gaze wander over to Kaminari, who was smiling up at her from the far corner of the room, closest to Bakugou’s balcony. She let out a long sigh and trudged over to him, sitting awkwardly next to him in the little nest of pillows and blankets that he’d made.
“Hi, princess,” he said as she pulled a pillow into her lap.
“Hi. Don’t call me that.”
He laughed a little, leaning onto her shoulder. She relented, falling into him as well.
“Aw, they’re so cute,” Mina gushed, tilting her head onto Sero’s shoulder. “Come on, look at them.”
“Don’t want to,” Bakugou grunted. “Ears, pick a movie.”
“Where are the snacks?” Kaminari piped up.
“By the bed, dumbass.”
Jirou hurriedly picked out an action movie that she vaguely remembered seeing with Kaminari in the theaters about a year prior, before they’d even started dating. Bakugou seemed to agree with it, and by the time they were ten minutes into the movie, Kirishima had pounded through half a bag of chips, and Sero and Mina were getting cozy on the other side of Bakugou’s bed. Jirou had her hands laced together in her lap, leaning back against the pillows but not reaching out for Kaminari. He laid on his side facing her, hand stretched out between them. His eyes were fixed on the screen, but all of his body language was pointed towards her.
She half wondered if he wanted her to take his hand, or cuddle up against his chest, but her eyes kept flicking over to the others in the room and decided it wouldn’t be a good idea. She wasn’t terribly enthusiastic about the idea of PDA, but she knew that Kaminari was all about physical touch. And she liked touching Kaminari, but with all their friends around, and with this being the first time that she was sleeping over with all of them, she didn’t want them to think that she was some depraved maniac who couldn’t keep her hands off her boyfriend. Even if she did want to cuddle up to him, just a little.
Still, this felt too close to ‘in public’ to be safe, so she just tried to focus on the movie. Sero, Kaminari, and Mina had the most colorful commentary on the film, while Kirishima laughed loudly, supporting the antics. Bakugou told them to shut up a few times, but Jirou had the feeling that he didn’t really mind. He liked them all enough to let them in his room, even though he pretended that he was annoyed with them.
After the movie, they played a couple card games, but Mina kept whining for them to play truth or dare.
“C’mon, Mina, that’s not fun with only six of us,” Kirishima said. “And you only suggest playing it when you wanna know something, so why don’t you just ask?”
Mina pouted at him. “You spoil all my fun, Kirishima.” She turned, looking to Kaminari and Jirou. “I just wanna see how far our two resident lovebirds have gotten.”
“Gross,” Bakugou stated eloquently, and Jirou had to agree. She blushed, averting her gaze from everyone else.
“That’s not your business!” Kaminari cried dramatically, pointing at Mina. “Not all of us like to publicly discuss our sexcapades.”
“So there are sexcapades?”
“No,” Jirou said firmly. “There aren’t.”
“We wanna wait,” Kaminari said, acting as though he was going to lean into Jirou and then deciding against it. “I’m serious about this.”
“So am I.”
“Well,” Sero scratched the underside of his chin, staring up at the ceiling. “It doesn’t have to mean you’re not serious if you do stuff. I mean, me and Mina-”
Mina smacked him on the arm and the rest of the room (including Bakugou, for once) exploded into excitement at the admission that something was going on between Mina and Sero. Jirou blew out a sigh of relief at being removed from the hot seat and watched the rest of them grill the couple.
“Wait! Since when!” Kirishima hollered.
“Since like three months ago!” Sero laughed. “Sorry, I didn’t mean to spill the beans, we wanted to keep it quiet for awhile.”
“Three months is a long time to keep your mouth shut,” Kaminari said, leaning back on his hands. “I couldn’t keep it to myself for that long.”
Jirou glanced at him. “You barely waited three minutes to tell everyone we were dating.”
He lifted a shoulder, offering her a sly grin. “Why would I keep you to myself?”
She wrinkled her nose at him and smacked him on the shoulder, which made the group laugh and settle down quite a bit. They settled into an easy conversation, and Mina carefully took Sero’s hand halfway through the conversation.
Soon enough, it was getting late, and Mina was the first to grow tired. She fell asleep against Sero’s side, and the other boys played on Bakugou’s gaming system for a little while. Kaminari kept glancing at Jirou, checking on her, and she smiled every time, reassuring him.
Bakugou screamed through the video games every time he lost, and Sero would shush him, since Mina was sleeping. Bakugou would scream a little quieter then, which would make Kirishima laugh. Jirou had to smile a little. The friendship dynamic was really interesting and she really liked all of them.
Kirishima fell asleep next, having found his way into Bakugou’s bed. Bakugou, grumbling, admitted that he was tired as well. Sero offered to turn the lights off, and shot a piece of tape to hit the switch.
Kaminari turned to Jirou. “Are you tired?”
She nodded. “Yeah, I am.”
He slid down against the pillows and reached his hand out to her. She looked over her shoulder to see if everyone else was sleeping and then rolled onto her side, facing him. He reached out his hand, wrapping his fingers around hers.
“You usually cuddle when we watch movies,” He said softly.
She felt a little bit of guilt crawl through her. “Yeah… We’re usually alone though.”
“It’s just our friends, though,” he mumbled. “I thought maybe I’d upset you somehow.”
Jirou shook her head. Kaminari had a bit of a track record of being insecure, so she supposed the least she could do would be to reassure him. “Kami, no, you didn’t upset me. I just… I didn’t want anyone to be annoyed or looking at us, I- I don’t really know how to do relationships like this yet.”
He scooted towards her, fully wrapping his arm around her waist. “I can show you.”
She huffed, letting him pull her against him. “Smooth.”
“Ah. Thanks.” He smiled at her and pulled her close to him, tucking her head under his chin. Jirou felt herself melt at the contact and she curled into him, shoving a knee between his so that they were even closer together. Kaminari let out a long sigh.
“Phew, I really thought you were mad at me,” he let out a laugh that he cut off as quickly as it started so it wouldn’t wake anyone. “You’re not usually so stoic with me. I mean, you are stoic, it’s the bad bitch energy, but you aren’t usually with me. ”
“Sorry,” She murmured. “I’ll try to talk to you before with stuff like that.”
He rubbed his hand up and down her back, squeezing her gently. “Don’t worry,” he said softly. “I don’t mind.”
Kaminari was the sweetest boyfriend Jirou could’ve asked for. She knew that now. Before, she hadn’t been sure if he’d be a good match for her, or a good match for anyone, with as loud as rambunctious as he was, but he was different when it was just the two of them.
She closed her eyes, taking a shuddering breath. “We’ve known each other for what, three years?”
“Yeah,” he mumbled back sleepily.
“And we’ve been dating for six months.”
“Mmhm.”
“So…”
“What’s up, baby?” He pulled back again to look down into her face, dragging a knuckle across her cheek.
“I love you,” She said bluntly. “I just wanted to say it.”
He beamed at her, swooping in to kiss her quietly. He pulled back slowly, pressing his forehead to hers. “Man, if we were alone right now-”
She smacked his chest. “Denki!”
“I’m kidding,” he squeezed her waist. “I love you too, you know.”
“Yeah, I know.”
He made a ‘tch’ sound and kissed her cheek before pulling her up against him again. “I wanted to say it first, you know. Since I was the one who did the asking out.”
“Those two don’t coincide.”
“Well, too bad, I wanted to have all the firsts.” He tugged the blankets up to their shoulders and snuggled against her, letting out a deep sigh as he started to let sleep take him. She listened carefully to his heartbeat and let it lull her to sleep in a way that felt familiar and simply… Fit.
When she woke up the next morning, she was sprawled across Kaminari’s chest. He was laying on his back, one arm across her waist and his other hand clasped over hers on his chest. None of the others were awake yet, and even Kaminari’s breaths were still heavy with sleep.
Jirou snuggled further into his embrace. This whole thing. Them. It was right. It was right even as she debated on telling him that she’d be fine with upping the PDA if it would make him feel better, making him feel comfortable would be worth it. She realized there was a lot of give and take in their relationship that had been so natural she hadn’t even considered it.
She heard whispering from the other side of the room, where Mina and Sero were, and slipped her ear jack to the floor to listen.
“They’re really good together,” Mina was whispering. “Kami and Kyouka.”
“Oh, definitely,” Sero replied. “Bets they’re the first ones of our friends to get married.”
Mina laughed softly, “It’s not fair to bet. We know they’ll get married first. Kaminari has been in love with her since first year.”
“Mm.”
Jirou pulled her jack back and snuggled further into Kaminari’s loose embrace. That was always something to discuss at the next sleepover.
