Work Text:
Kaminari was done with this week. He was up till the sun was coming up trying to study for Mr. Aizawa's weekly quizzes, and he was completely exhausted. Friday mornings were the worst for him because the weeks’ worth of long nights was catching up to him. Kaminari sat on the edge of his bed, just staring down at the floor. The last dregs of his energy forced him to his feet and his closet. A knock came at his door, and Kaminari let out an audible huff in frustration.
"It's open..."
The door opened slightly, and a head full of blond floof appeared in the gap.
"Pikachu, what are you doing? You're gonna be late."
Kaminari just sighed and walked to his closet, "Do you think I will get in trouble if I don't wear my uniform?"
The other boy moved the rest of the way into the room and shut the door behind himself. He walked over to Kaminari and wrapped his arms around the exhausted boy.
"Bug, what's wrong?"
"I'm just so tired of all of this. I really don't have the energy anymore. I don't deserve this. So many other people should have gotten my place, like Shinsou. He has such an amazing quirk and has flawless control over it. He's super smart and is the top General Studies student. He should be here. Not me. I'm so stupid that I have to spend all night every night to keep the grades that I do have. Everyone is so much better than me, and they all know it too."
The arms around Kaminari's waist tightened with his words. Bakugou rested his chin on Kaminari's shoulder, and Kaminari could feel the tension in the body pressed against his back.
"I wonder if it would be possible for me to switch places with him? What do you think? Aizawa has been pushing to get him moved into our class for months. I could give him my spot. That would make Aizawa happy, and Shinsou would get a better chance at debuting right out of school. I think that would be great. He has so much more drive than me, and I know he will make an amazing hero."
Caramel drifted through the air, and little curls of smoke rose from Bakugou's clenched fists as he listened to his boyfriend tear himself apart. Each degrading word hit the usually angry blond in the heart like an icy shard of glass.
"I really don't feel like going to class today. I know I'm going to fail Aizawa's test, so what is even the point in taking it? I'd rather go back to bed if I am honest. At least I can do that right most of the time."
Bakugou had to loosen his grip on his boyfriend so that none of the noxious chemical on his hands got on him. He was barely managing to contain the anger that was bubbling under his skin. The irresistible urge to obliterate all the negative emotions exuding from Kaminari and all of the causes for the emotions rushed through Bakugou as he forced himself to stay calm. He had a mission, after all.
"Katsuki, will you tell Aizawa that I am just going to stay in bed today? I don't really think I can handle listening to Mina and Sero's teasing today. Jirou laughed at me last week, too, and I just don't want to deal with it today. I'll be fine for class on Monday."
Bakugou slowly moved his arms from around Kaminari and turned him around.
"Kaminari Denki. I don't want to hear another degrading word come out of your mouth. I do want you to put on your Pikachu onesie and get back in bed. I will talk to Mr. Aizawa, and you aren't going to move from your room until I get back. Do you understand me?"
Kaminari shivered at the gravelly voice that commanded him, and he nodded slowly.
"If I let you go, are you going to do what I asked?"
"Y-yes."
"Good. I will be back as soon as I can. I'm going to bring you some breakfast so go play Minecraft or put on our show if you want. I will be back as soon as I can, Lightning Bug."
Kaminari nodded again, and Bakugou pulled him into a hug. He pulled away slowly and pushed Kaminari towards his closet.
"I'll be back, Bug."
~
Bakugou felt the rage return as he closed Kaminari's door behind him softly. He stomped down the hallway and forwent the elevator in favor of throwing himself down the stairs at breakneck speed.
The common room was full, and his classmates milled around eating their respective morning meals. The couches were full, and Yaoyarozu was making tea in the kitchen.
"LISTEN UP FUCKERS!" Bakugou screamed as he blasted through the staircase door.
Mina screamed, and several people jumped to their feet or clung to their neighbor. Bakugou strode to the middle of the room and glared at the collected teenagers.
"I am done. All of you better listen and listen well. Do you understand me?"
Bakugou's voice had gone soft and was reminiscent of the sibilant tones of an angry viper. Everyone in the room nodded, and the tension rose as Bakugou started moving around people.
"My boyfriend..." Breaths hitched at the word, "is currently upstairs questioning every bit of his self-worth and existence. He asked me whether I thought he deserved to be in this class. He said that all of us were so much better than him and that really anyone else deserved his spot. He told me that he was too tired to deal with the teasing today but that he would be fine on Monday. He told me that he could deal with it then. Tell me, why should anyone have to DEAL with that? Tell me why he thinks he isn't worth this position in the best Hero class in the country? Tell me why he named specific people. Tell me why those people were people he calls friends."
Bakugou watched as people shrank in their seats. They had surely figured out who he was talking about by this point as Kaminari was the only one absent.
"My beautiful Bug with a heart of gold told me that he wanted to ask Nezu to give Shinso his spot in our class. I hope you are proud of yourself. I'm going to talk to Aizawa, and if I see or hear that anyone has gone near Denki today, I will personally give up my spot here to put you six feet under."
Bakugou spun on his heel and exploded out of the building. Class 1-A stared after him, and you could hear a pin drop. Iida was the first to move.
"We have really messed up."
The room exploded in sound. Mina's face was streaked with mascara, and Kirishima had her wrapped in his arms. Sero looked like he had seen a ghost, and Jirou was staring at the floor, expressionless. Midoriya stood up and looked around the room slowly.
"Guys, we need to do something about this. Kaminari-Kun is an amazing hero, and I won't let him quit!"
Assenting voices filled the air. Iida's hand chopped through the air and a determined look set on his face.
"I think we should let Bakubro handle Kami today, though. I don't think Kaminari needs us to be around him right now," Kirishima's soft voice was sad as he pulled Mina closer.
"I agree! We should all be getting ready for class now!" Iida started moving to the dormitory door as he spoke.
~
Bakugou banged on the door to the Staffroom. An exasperated 'coming' drifted through the door, and he stepped back with his arms crossed tightly across his chest. Midnight opened the door and stared down at him impatiently.
"What do you want, Kid?"
"I need to talk to Aizawa. Now."
The woman sighed heavily and stood aside, "Good luck waking him up."
Bakugou shoved past her and stalked over to the desk where a yellow caterpillar was slumped and snoring.
"Sensei! I gotta talk to you."
A groan rose from the sleeping bag. It shifted and rose to reveal class 1-A's homeroom teacher.
"What do you want, Problem Child?"
"I want you to excuse Kaminari and me from class for today."
Aizawa attempted to rub the sleep from his eyes before glaring up at his student.
"Why?"
"He is not in a good place, and I need to take care of him. I-I really need you to let us off,"
Bakugou visibly deflated as he talked, and Aizawa straightened up.
"Kid, what's wrong?"
The man saw tears well in Bakugou's eyes, and he stood up, alarmed. The yellow fabric pooled on the floor around Aizawa's feet as he pulled his student into a hug. Bakugou broke into heavy sobs in his teacher's arms as he clung to the man's black shirt.
"He-He told me...he doesn't think...he doesn't think he's worth...He told me he wanted to give up his...his spot in our class. He said he w-would give it to Shinsou cause that would make you happy."
Bakugou hiccoughed and tried to quiet his tears as he attempted to pull away from the teacher. Aizawa held onto his shoulders and looked down at Bakugou, expression soft.
"You are both excused from class. I will bring your work over after class ends. I will give you, however long you need. Just send a notice with Iida if you are going to be out after the weekend. I will give you three days after you return to submit your work. I am also going to work with Kaminari to schedule an appointment with a counselor. You as well if you need to in addition to your current sessions. Is that okay, Katsuki?"
Bakugou scrubbed furiously at the tear tracks on his cheeks and nodded at his teacher.
"Go on back to the dorms, Kid."
"Th-thanks, Sensei."
Aizawa smiled softly and nodded. His hands fell to his side as Bakugou left the room.
"Is everything okay, Shota?"
"Yeah, Nemi. They will be fine. I will make sure of it."
~
The common room was empty when Bakugou returned. He walked into the kitchen and found two plates on the counter wrapped in foil. A note was beside them, and Bakugou moved to pick it up.
Bakubro,
Midobro and I got some food together for you and Kami. I'm really sorry that this is happening. I hate that I didn't notice how bad Kami was feeling. I feel like such a shit friend. Please let me do something for him soon, okay? I'm gonna make sure to bring any notes from our classes, and I will see if I can get us training passes for the weekend since I am sure you guys will want to make up anything you missed.
Take care of him, okay?
I'll talk to you after class.
Kirishima
Bakugou lifted the foil and found that the plates held a western-style breakfast with pancakes and Bakugou's favorite chorizo. He smiled at the note and put the plates into the microwave.
~
The elevator dinged open on Kaminari's floor, and Bakugou moved as quickly as possible to his dorm room.
"Hey, Bug. Could you open the door for me?"
A quiet groan rose through the room. Footsteps moved to the door, and Kaminari opened it slowly.
"Hey, I've got food. Can you eat something for me?"
Kaminari nodded as he crawled back into bed. Bakugou handed him a plate and set the other on the bedside table.
"I'm gonna lock the door. That okay?"
"Mhmm."
The lock clicked quietly. Bakugou dimmed the lights a bit and crawled onto the bed next to the lump that his boyfriend had become.
"I've got syrup for the pancakes."
Kaminari nodded and proceeded to drown his food in syrup. They ate in silence. The air was only disturbed by the clink of their forks and the soft hum of the air conditioning.
"Bug, can you tell me what you want to do now?"
Bakugou ran a hand through Kaminari's soft hair as he laid down beside the blanket shrouded form.
"Can we cuddle?"
Bakugou smiled softly and pulled the other boy into his arms. Kaminari clung to him as Bakugou wrapped the blankets around them more securely.
"Hey, when you get feeling a little better, we need to talk about all of this. I need to help you, Love. I care too much about you to let you keep feeling like this. So... p-please let me help you."
Kaminari's arms tightened around Bakugou's waist, "Okay. I'm sorry you have to skip class because of me. I don't want to mess up your chances."
"Stop! What did I say about the degrading shit?"
A sheepish look coated Kaminari's face. Bakugou pulled him in closer.
"I don't care about skipping class. We can just do the makeup work together. In fact, from now on, we are doing all our homework together. I am going to make you understand just how much you belong here. I will make you understand that the ranking that you get in class doesn't define your ability to be a pro. I am gonna show you just how smart you are. I mean, look around! You've got books everywhere, and you just pull the required voltage for your quirk out of nowhere in a split second. I swear you can do math better than I can. You are just listening to other people too much. Ignore the teasing. You and I both know they're just spouting bullshit. Denki, you are one of the smartest kids here. You are just letting your brain betray itself. Why don’t we watch the rest of this season of our show and then take a nap? Would that be okay?”
Bakugou felt his shirt getting wet, and he looked down at his boyfriend, alarmed. Kaminari looked up at him with tears running down his face and a tiny smile gracing his lips. Bakugou smiled and brushed the tears from the electric blond’s face.
“I love you, Katsuki.”
“I love you too, Bug.”
Kaminari kissed his cheek before nestling back against his chest.
“Thank you, Kats. I promise that I will work on this. I won’t make you worry anymore.”
“You belong here with us. Don’t let anyone make you feel any different. Come to me the next time you feel like this. I don’t care what time it is. Wake me up. Interrupt me any time. I care about you. You come first. You understand me?”
“Loud and clear, Ground Control!”
Bakugou smiled down at the other blond and pulled him close again, “Let's take a nap, Sparky.”
