Chapter 1: Alone with Regret

Chapter Text

Tubbo sat in the office he shared with the other cabinet members at his desk, head in his hands. Had he really done that? Had he really exiled his best friend? It had happened just hours ago, but it felt as though so much time has passed already, and yet, the sun had only set an hour ago. Fundy and Quackity left for their homes to sleep. Their anger was valid, he had agreed to their plan.

But that “plan” was asking for death-

It was a plan born from emotion and they could have seen success like they had before.

But the citizens had called for exile.

He should have done more to protect Tommy.

But he also had the citizens of a country to protect, too.

He could have been brave and stood his ground with his friends behind him.

But he was scared.

He was supposed to be a leader his friends could depend on.

But he had an entire nation to lead.

He just wanted peace and for everyone to be happy.

But when he tried, nothing went right.

He did all he could to find a peaceful solution.

But did he really try his hardest?

What had really made him change his mind?

Maybe the presidency really was cursed.

He had to be strong. He’d already made his decision. He couldn’t back out of it now. At least the people of New L’Manburg weren’t trapped and awaiting death. Even in front of his friends, he couldn’t bring himself to show his regret. He’d made it known that he was a leader first and friend second earlier that day. They wouldn’t care if he cried, anyway. Their anger proved that.

He tried to make this government function in a way that was different from how Schlatt did it. He made sure that he didn’t make decisions on his own. He always looked to the others for their opinions. Even when everyone else tried to tell him he had the final say, he made the point of how he’d get everyone’s opinion and that they’d vote, like the democracy they were.

But the one time he acted upon the authority they claimed he had, they called him a villain.

And since he exiled his own friend?

Maybe he was.
