Chapter 1:
Not all people are created equal, some are created better.
“Not all people are created equally.”
This was a lesson that 6 year old Izuku Midoriya had literally beaten into him. His mom brought him to the playground today to possibly play hero with his “best friend” Katsuki.. This was not what she meant. The group of kids had stumbled down into the woods to play their hero game, that’d turned for the worse after one of the other kids began to cry when he fell. As Katsuki decided to give the boy something to cry about, Izuku stood shakily in front of the downed child, defending him from a group of other children, led by a blonde haired boy with red eyes. “That’s mean K-Kacchan, can’t you see that he’s crying! If you keep h-hurting him, I’ll be forced to f-fight you.” His emerald green eyes shook with determination and fear.
“Oh so, you’re still trying to be a hero, eh Deku?” said the aforementioned Kacchan. This was Katsuki Bakugou. A future hero, and Izuku Midoriya’s worst tormentor. Small explosions could be seen blasting off of Bakugou’s hands. Behind him was a chubby child with wings and a lanky kid who’s fingers began to extend. “I guess quirkless losers and regular losers have to stick together.” The green haired kid held up his hands in preparation to fight as Bakugou and his lackeys walked towards him. Suddenly Bakugou was stopped by a coin hitting him in the face, shocking him with a light jolt, 2 more coins followed suit shocking his lackeys. Seeing this distraction, the boy who Izuku had been defending got up and ran away.
“Hey! 3 on 1 isn’t fair at all!” shouted a boy. Izuku turned to see who had stepped in to help him. He had brown hair that stuck out in all directions with piercing yellow eyes. Izuku could tell the boy looked kind of filthy. Perhaps he had stumbled upon their situation after falling into the woods. He wore brownish green cargo shorts and an old t-shirt that looked worse for wear. He walked over to Izuku, and stood in front of him. “I don’t like bullies, so if you want to hurt him you’ll have to go through me.”
“That shouldn’t be a problem. Though why you’re protecting a quirkless bastard like him I’ll never understand.” Katsuki snickered. “I’ll give you one chance to run away.” Katsuki’s hands began to spark with miniature explosions. The boy’s eyes began to glow yellow as sparks of electricity began to flow from his hands. Katsuki’s lackeys grew wide eyed. The coins that hit the trio began to spark and float back to the boys hands.
“Uh B-Bakugou. This kid’s quirk looks really strong.” the one with wings stammered out.
“Who cares?! If he wants to protect Deku then so be it.” Katsuki moved closer with explosions in his hands to the two boys before a loud female voice was heard.
“KATSUKI! GET YOUR ASS BACK HERE! I CAN HEAR YOUR EXPLOSIONS. YOU’RE IN BIG TROUBLE.” shouted Mitsuki Bakugou, aka Katsuki’s mom. Katsuki growled at the two boys.
“Tch. You two are lucky today. You won’t be so lucky next time, Deku.” Bakugou growled. “Come on you two.” His lackeys nodded before following closely behind him. The yellow eyed boy subconsciously let out a deep sigh.
“Phew. That was close. I really didn’t want to hurt him. I can’t afford to get in trouble.” The boy laughed.
“U-um. T-t-thank you for saving me.” Izuku said.
“It’s no problem, I really meant what I said. I can’t stand bullies, or mean people in general. He was definitely both so of course I helped.” The boy smiled. “I hope you’re okay Deku.” Izuku went wide eyed before looking down.
“That’s not actually my name.” Izuku muttered.
“I’m sorry?” the boy questioned.
“My name is Izuku Midoriya. Kaachan only calls me Deku to make fun of me. It means useless.” Izuku explained. The boy went wide eyed.
“Oh! I am so sorry!” the boy apologized. “I thought-”
“It’s ok. You didn’t know. Anyway. Could I probably get to know your name?”
“Of course! My name is Hikaru!” Hikaru explained.
“Just Hikaru?” Izuku turned his head. “What about your last name?”
“I don’t know my last name.” Hikaru said somberly. “It’s because I don’t have a family- OH shoot!” Hikaru ran back over to where he had come from before he stepped in to help Izuku. Izuku followed closely behind him. He watched as Hikaru’s hands began to glow with blue sparks before waving it over the muddy landscape. He walked over to a seemingly random spot in the ground before he started to dig with his hands. Soon enough, Hikaru picked up a 100 yen coin from inside of the ground. “Another one! I’ve almost got enough for dinner!” Izuku couldn’t believe what he was seeing. His savior was homeless? “Anyway Midoriya, that was really brave of you to step in and help that kid even though you were scared. Heroic even! It was really cool!” Hikaru praised. Izuku couldn’t believe what he had just heard. He had called him heroic?!
“D-Do you really mean that?” Izuku stammered. His eyes began to water.
“Of course! The world needs more heroes like you. Those who help others in need regardless of how they feel” Hikaru smiled. Izuku began to cry a river of tears. “Woah! I’m sorry did I say something that upset you?” Izuku shook his head.
“That’s the nicest thing anyone has ever said to me.” Izuku said through his tears. Hikaru looked at him weirdly before chuckling.
“Well I’m happy to help Midoriya.” Hikaru said.
“Izuku! Izuku! Where are you baby!?” shouted a feminine voice. Izuku went wide eyed.
“Oh no! My mom’s looking for me!” Izuku said in shock.
“Well, I’d better take my leave then.” Hikaru said sadly. Looking at his new friend's sad face, Izuku held out his hand.
“Come on! I want you to meet her.” Izuku smiled. Hikaru looked at him in shock.
“Are you sure?” Hikaru asked hopefully. Izuku nodded. Hikaru smiled before grabbing Izuku’s hand. The two boys ran out of the woods together before running into a small skinny woman with emerald green hair, not unlike Izuku’s own hair. This was Inko Midoriya, Izuku’s mother.
“There you are Izuku! I was so worried when I saw you weren’t at the playground anymore and Mitsuki had taken Katsuki home.” Inko said.
“I’m sorry mom! I was playing with my new friend!” Izuku explained. Inko turned to look at the dirty, yellow eyed boy. “Can he come over for dinner mom, please please please?” Izuku begged with puppy dog eyes. Inko looked reluctant before sighing.
“Of course Izuku, should we let his parents know he will be coming? He also will need a bath.” Inko chuckled. Hikaru looked down in sadness.
“He doesn’t have parents, mom.” Izuku explained.
“Oh dear-” Inko gasped. “Do you have any guardians that I have to warn? A place to return home to?” Hikaru shook his head. Inko kneeled to hug the boy to her chest. “Of course you can come eat with us! In fact, you can come and live with us. I could never allow a child to suffer alone. Especially not one of my dear Izuku’s friends.” Hikaru’s eyes went wide.
“A-are you sure ma’am?” Hikaru stammered. “I wouldn’t want to be a burden-.”
“Nonsense. Let's get you home, give you a warm bath and we’ll worry about everything else tomorrow.” Hikaru’s eyes began to water.
“Thank you so much Ms. Midoriya!” Hikaru smiled through his own tears.
(Later that night)
After a warm bath and a nice dinner that consisted of Katsudon, Izuku and Hikaru were laying in Izuku’s room. Hikaru was on a spare futon on the floor, while Izuku laid in his bed.
“Thank you so much, Midoriya.” Hikaru smiled. “I never thought I would experience this.”
“Izuku.” Midoriya responded. “You can call me Izuku, since I call you by your first name. And you don’t have to thank me, you’re the first person to call me a hero. I couldn’t do anything to repay you for that.”
“Well I guess we’re in debt to each other.” Hikaru chuckled. “Let’s repay each other by always being friends and becoming heroes together.”
“Speaking of heroes? What exactly is your quirk? I saw you create sparks with your hands and make those coins float and electrocute people?” Izuku asked.
“Oh! My quirk is called Electromagnetism.” Hikaru said. “At least that's what the police said when I unlocked it. I basically can sense metal, control it, charge it all through my hands. OH I can also shock people with my hands.” Hikaru explained. Izuku’s eyes shone in admiration.
“That’s such a powerful quirk! You’ll be an amazing hero for sure!” Izuku said as he grabbed his hero analysis notebook from seemingly nowhere and wrote things down. The door to Izuku’s room opened, revealing Inko Midoriya with a warm motherly smile.
“Alright boys! Lights out!” Inko said calmly. Izuku nodded before turning off his lamp. “Goodnight you two.” Inko kissed Izuku on the forehead. “Good night Izuku.” Izuku smiled. Hikaru looked down slightly before feeling something warm on his forehead. Inko had kissed his forehead as well. “Goodnight Hikaru.” Hikaru blushed.
“Goodnight/Goodnight mom!” said Hikaru and Izuku respectively. Inko walked out, allowing the two to close their eyes and drift off to sleep.
