If you aren´t cheating you aren´t really trying

Summary:

Everyone of this year’s Villain´s class made it to the sports festival which is quite unusual. Even more unusual is their decision to stick together no matter what the game dictates. In the end the odds are still stacked against them and the only ones they can rely on are themselves.

And no, it is not technically cheating to let Bakugou beat up other students in the obstacle run or Izuku carrying around a bottle of oil for a giant wall of fire (spark contributed by Todoroki). It is creative thinking.

Notes:

It´s time for what we all eagerly waited for: The sports festival. I hope you´ll enjoy it.

Chapter Text

Izuku nervously stood between his classmates in the big hall that lead out to the stadium where UA´s Sport festival of the first years would take place. Behind them 1B was gathered who were glaring at them and whispering among themselves.

They had stood there for awhile until one of the 1-B children got brave enough to step forward from the group. He had short blond hair and blue eyes. “So you are the infamous A-class?”

“Yes.” Kacchan growled. “You have a problem with that?”

“Well I don´t really understand why you are even here.” The boy answered. “Let´s be honest you are just a pity project of Nedzu and it´s not like the festival will even bring you any further. Everyone knows no one wants an A-student in their work placement since you are forbidden from going out on patrol.”

Izuku saw small explosions littering Kacchan´s hands and put his hand on his arm to stop him from attacking the kid. “Then it is their loss that they won´t take us on as interns. Still doesn´t mean we can´t show them what they are missing.”

The boy scoffed. “As if a bunch of villains have so much to show.”

Before Izuku could respond a ginger girl put a hand on the blond boy´s shoulder. “Monoma stop that. They just stopped a major villain attack you can´t act like they didn´t prove themselves.”

Monoma rolled his eyes. “Any hero student could have done that, people are just impressed that they didn´t join the villains as if that´s such a great accomplishment. Like congratulations on not becoming evil – well done. Let´s be honest we´re gonna destroy them in combat.”

“Oh yes?” Denki asked. “We will see.”

Monoma opened his mouth to respond but then the big doors leading to the stadium started to open and Present Mic´s reinforced voice could be heard even inside. “Here comes 1-A.”

Izuku´s class threw Monoma a few glares then they started to walk out on the big field. It was disorientating being surrounded by so many people sitting above who stared down at them. And the noise! It was terribly loud and it was even harder to distinguish if they were applauding or booing. After a few minutes he was pretty sure it was a mixture of both.

1-B came after them and the sound of the crowd changed to something far more positive sounding. They were clearly the favorites – not that that was a surprise. Then the Support class and Business class came and while the applause became quieter nobody booed them.

Once everyone was out they were brought to two giant doors that led to an obstacle race as Present Mic explained. Izuku looked over to Todoroki who nodded. Izuku had talked with his class mates about what to anticipate in the games in the festival: It was expected that some kind of racing game would come up because nearly every festival had something involving being the first person over the finish line. And they had a plan.

The doors opened and everyone ran in the narrow corridor so that they were pressed against each other – except for the entire 1-A class who patiently waited in front of the corridor until everyone was in. Then Todoroki stepped forward and froze everyone in the corridor to the ground. Afterwards, he made an ice ramp that led over the people frozen to the ground and the A-class ran over the heads of everyone.

Todoroki looked at Izuku as they jumped off the ramp past the frozen crowd of people. “That worked rather well.”

Izuku grinned. “I told you there would be a race part somewhere.”

Present Mic loud voice was heard over the speakers. “Todoroki uses his ice to freeze the other classes and give his own class an advantage. Is that even allowed?”

Aizawa´s tired voice came from the same speakers. “Astonishingly no one wrote in the rules of the sports festival that you are obligated to stab your own friends in the back.”

“But the festival is to show your individual strength,” Mic disagreed.

“Yes but the capability to work in a team is an individual strength. And one that most don´t expect in the Villain´s class as that.”

A few of the other people managed to free themselves from the ice or had flown the entire time so they didn´t get caught in it but 1-A had left most of them behind. Everyone who was still able to move forward did so until they came up to several giants robots.

Izuku saw Monoma come up and shout. “It´s the robots we had to fight in our entrance exam.”

Shinso shuddered. “That´s why I got into the A-class and didn´t try out for the entrance exam.”

Izuku took over the lead. “One half of the class clear a pass for us, the other one stop the others students!”

“WHAT?” A student from Business shouted incredulous and immediately got tied up by a tape of Sero.

“Sorry man.” Sero shouted as he swung by to attack the next student.

“I WILL KILL THAT FUCKING BLONDE BASTARD!” Kacchan shouted and lunged for Monoma who stumbled out of the way with a very high-pitched scream.

Present Mic protested again. “Eraser you can´t tell me THAT isn´t illegal.”

“It is.” Aizawa answered bored. “The rules clearly state that you can attack another student to slow them down.”

“But this is an alright war of 1-A against the other classes. What did the poor Business class ever do to them? They have PE like once a week they shouldn´t have to battle people throwing explosions.”

“Then I recommend they stay out of the way.”

While they spoke Izuku aimed with his tranquiller gun at the other students. Most of who were from 1-B but a few Support and Business ones made it too. In the end it was a bit of the draw of luck who had a fitting quirk to escape an ice prison. But it wasn´t so much luck if someone could duck under a tranquiller dart or Aoyama´s laser blast. Meanwhile Yaoyorozu used a canon to literally blast through the robots and Uraraka let giant pieces of metal and rock fall from the sky (while trying her best to avoid the other students). Denki´s lightning destroyed any hardware in the robots making them useless while Mina´s acid and Todoroki´s ice destroyed their footing letting them stumble.

“There is a path!” Iida shouted. “1-A move forward.”

Izuku run up while regularly looking over his back and shooting if other students tried to follow them. Kacchan was their rear guard discouraging anyone from following them. Izuku didn´t know where Monoma went but he felt kind of sorry for the kid.

Once everyone got past the path in the robots Todoroki used his fire to melt the ice that held the footing of one of the robots so it felt down behind them, blocking the path. “Midoriya now!”

Izuku ran to the wall next to him and took out the big bottle of oil he had managed to swindle from the Support team (thank you Hatsume) and made a very thick line of oil from one wall to the other until he used everything of it. Just as the first students of the other classes made it over the robots Todoroki lit the oil on fire. A several meter high wall of flames stood in between them and the other students.

“Wait what?” A girl with long, green, vine-like hair said. “Seriously?”

“See you on the end.” Mina said cheerily.

“1-A let´s move on.” Iida shouted. “Let´s end this as soon as possible.”

A sigh was heard of the loud speaker. “Shouta your class is insane!”

Notes:

If any of you is worried about the internship after Monoma´s words: They will be able to make it with the help of some... creative help from the heroes. It´s already planned out but that will come in the next story in the series.
