Work Text:
When Taehyung wakes up on Christmas Eve, he’s excited and happy and every other positive emotion rolled into one. And it’s not just because it’s Christmas, it’s also because his boyfriend Jimin is coming back from a business trip tonight. He’d called the day before to let him and their other boyfriend Jeongguk know that he would be home in time to celebrate with them, and it’s literally been the only thing Taehyung has thought about all night.
He prances into the kitchen that morning with a big smile and greets Jeongguk with a kiss to his cheek when he passes him as he goes to make himself something to eat. He spends most of the day scrolling through his phone and jamming out to Christmas songs because he is just so happy to have both his boyfriends home for the holidays.
“You’re really happy,” Jeongguk notes that afternoon.
“Jiminie’s coming back tonight, of course I’m happy,” he says, sighing happily as he settles down on the sofa and stretches his long legs out. “We haven’t seen him in three days, Gguk. Three days.”
“I know.” Jeongguk plops down beside him, elbowing him a little so that he has more room to sit. “Were you this upset when I was gone for a week that one time?”
“Are you kidding? Jimin and I were losing our minds. We had to fuck twice a day just to stop ourselves from missing you too much.”
Jeongguk just rolls his eyes and takes a bite out of his toast. “Well I know the second he walks through the door tonight I’m gonna give him a week’s worth of kisses.”
“Not if I get to him first,” Taehyung challenges. “I didn’t even get to kiss him goodbye when he left, I should get first dibs.”
“Not my fault you can’t wake up on time, hyung.”
Taehyung pouts and shoves at him and Jeongguk just cackles, delighting in teasing him. “Why are you such a brat,” he grumbles.
“You know you love me.”
“I do but I’m starting to question why.”
Jeongguk blows a raspberry at him and stands up to go get something else from the kitchen. It’s at this moment that Taehyung’s phone starts ringing and Taehyung beams once he sees that it’s Jimin. He answers the call with a megawatt smile and lays back on the sofa like a content cat.
“I was hoping you’d call,” he says.
“Oh you were, huh?” Jimin laughs on the other end. His laughter fades out and suddenly there’s a heavy sigh. “Taehyungie, I’ve got some bad news.”
“What about?” he asks, picking at a stain he notices on the sofa cushion.
“I won’t be able to come back home until tomorrow.”
Taehyung immediately sits up in alarm. “What do you mean? I thought you were getting a flight out,” he says, looking over to the kitchen when he sees Jeongguk’s head turn in his direction.
“I thought I was but they still need me here,” Jimin sighs.
“Oh.” It really shouldn’t be a big deal. They’ve spent Christmases apart before. Jimin has work and when he’s done he’ll be back home.
It’s fine. Totally fine.
“Jiminie’s not coming?” Jeongguk murmurs as he walks back over and sits down beside him.
Taehyung bites at his lip and shakes his head and Jeongguk immediately deflates, looking like a sad kicked puppy.
“I’m so sorry, baby,” Jimin continues, his voice shaky. “I promise I’ll make it up to you both when I’m home. You’re not mad are you?”
“No,” Taehyung mumbles. “Just…disappointed. Christmas isn’t the same without you, you know.”
Jimin laughs softly over the receiver. “I know. I’ll see you tomorrow, okay? I love you.”
“I love you too.”
“Me too!” Jeongguk shouts, loud enough that it has Jimin giggling.
When he eventually hears nothing and hangs up, Taehyung sighs heavily and drops his phone on the coffee table. His eyes feel wet.
Well his mood’s ruined now.
He was imagining Jimin coming home in a few hours but now…
It’s not like he’s alone or anything—Jeongguk is still here with him, but Jimin is their lifeline, the one who completes them, and when he’s not there they miss him terribly. He sniffs a little and suddenly strong arms are pulling him in and Jeongguk is hugging him to his chest with a small pout. “Hyung, don’t cry,” he says. “He might not be coming back tonight but he will be back tomorrow at least.”
“I know I know,” he murmurs. His gaze sweeps over to the lit up tree in the corner covered in ornaments, remembering the night Jimin had somehow got himself tangled up in the tinsel and lights and was squeaking with laughter until Jeongguk and Taehyung could peel him out of it. “Well, we’ve got the night to ourselves. What do you wanna do?”
Jeongguk pulls back with a smirk and raises his eyebrows playfully. “I think you know.”
Taehyung sighs and rolls his eyes. “If you’re talking about what I think you are, the answer is no.”
“What? Oh come on this is my one request every Christmas!”
“Among all your other requests.”
“Taehyungie,” he pouts.
“Jeonggukie.”
“Please?”
It’s really hard trying to resist his boyfriend looking adorable with his big brown eyes and pink pouty lips so he groans. “Fine. But don’t tell Jimin I let you watch it.”
Jeongguk cheers and jumps up from the couch to grab a DVD. “Die Hard is an amazing Christmas movie, you two are just mean.”
“It’s not a Christmas movie!”
An hour or so later of them sitting cuddled up and watching the movie and bickering back and forth, Taehyung glances at the clock and frowns. It’s nearing midnight. If things had been on schedule, Jimin would have been back and in their arms by now. They could have all been cuddling on the couch together drinking hot chocolate and watching the snow fall outside the window.
He leans his head on Jeongguk’s shoulder. “Hey Gguk, do you remember that time we put snow in Jimin’s pants?”
Jeongguk snorts out a laugh. “Yeah.”
“And how he chased us around the yard afterwards waving a stick to try and hit us while screaming that his balls were gonna fall off?”
“He was so mad,” he chuckles.
“I think my life flashed before my eyes when he eventually caught me.” His smile fades a little but he picks up his phone. “Hey you wanna send a photo to him real quick?”
“Sure.”
He pauses the movie and shifts in closer as Taehyung raises his hand up to take the selfie and they both smile when he takes the picture. He sends it to Jimin and gets a response a minute later with six heart emojis. He smiles.
“Did he like it?” Jeongguk asks, leaning over to look at his phone.
“He sent a bunch of hearts back.”
“Hm, let’s take another one.” He grabs for Taehyung’s phone but Taehyung tries to wrestle it away when the flash goes off. Jeongguk laughs hysterically when he looks at the photo but before Taehyung can see it he’s already sent it to Jimin. Once he grabs his phone back and is able to see what the photo looks like, he pouts. “Yah, I look awful!”
“I think that’ll be my new profile picture,” he cackles. “Look, even Jiminie hyung agrees with me!” he exclaims when Jimin responds with hearts and laughing emojis.
“You’re both traitors,” Taehyung grumbles.
Jeongguk just smiles and wraps his arms around his shoulders again, leaning in close to peck his cheek. “I’ll make it up to you later,” he says.
Taehyung pretends to be annoyed a little longer before relaxing back into his younger boyfriend’s arms. “Remember last year’s Christmas when we spent the whole day in bed?” he murmurs.
“Mm, good times,” Jeongguk nods. “Jiminie took care of us that whole morning. I think I had like five orgasms.”
“You did not, you had two.”
“Whatever. It was a great day.”
“It was.”
Jeongguk gently cards his fingers through his hair. “You’re really missing him a lot, huh?” he says softly.
“Aren’t you?”
“Of course! When he called to say he wasn’t coming back tonight I almost cried. But…we’ve got each other. He wouldn’t want us to be sad.”
“I know.” He snuggles further into the younger’s warmth. When the clock eventually hits midnight, he and Jeongguk turn towards each other. He smiles as he cups Jeongguk’s face. “Merry Christmas, baby.”
Jeongguk’s eyes crinkle at the end as he smiles back. “Merry Christmas.”
They both lean in until their lips touch in a soft and gentle kiss. Jeongguk slips his tongue past his lips and Taehyung almost chides him for it, but he doesn’t mind deepening the kiss. What the hell, it’s Christmas, they can be a little naughty. He turns more in his arms as he slides a hand up into Jeongguk’s hair, pulling him in closer as he presses back against him. Jeongguk softly moans, his hands holding onto his waist as their kiss grows a little more heated.
When he briefly pulls back, Jeongguk just blinks at him so he leans in again to kiss his nose, his cheek, and then his lips, and when he pulls away for real this time, Taehyung sighs happily and presses his forehead against Jeongguk’s. The two of them end up giggling together after a few minutes but the moment is shattered when they hear a knock at the front door.
Jeongguk is on his feet first, immediately on the defensive, while Taehyung hangs back on the couch. “Who the hell could that be at this hour?” he whispers.
“I dunno,” Jeongguk mumbles. He looks around for a weapon, opting for the spatula he’d been using to make dinner earlier and raises it as he approaches the door.
“Be careful,” Taehyung warns.
Jeongguk moves closer to use the peephole in the door and whatever he sees has him gasping softly. Taehyung has no time to ask what’s wrong before Jeongguk is flinging open the door and dropping the spatula to the ground as he chokes out a sob.
When Taehyung fully turns around, he can only see Jeongguk’s back and shoulders as he envelops whoever it is. But when he pulls away, Jimin is standing there with rosy cheeks and a smile, his dark hair peppered with snowflakes.
“Jimin?” he gasps.
“Hi,” he says softly.
His feet start moving before he can properly think and then he’s sweeping him into his arms, lifting him up off the ground and swinging him around and Jimin is laughing, he’s here, he’s here–
He sets him back down and Jimin gently touches his face, apologizing without having to say it, and then they’re kissing and Taehyung feels like he might burst with joy. He holds him tightly, far more emotional than he expected to be, but Jimin is just endeared as he pets his hair and wipes his tears away. “I’m here, baby,” he whispers. Jeongguk wraps his arms around Jimin’s middle, his chin tucked into his shoulder as he hugs him close. “I’m sorry I told you I wouldn’t be I just wanted to surprise you. And technically it is tomorrow.”
“Well we’re definitely surprised,” Jeongguk laughs.
Jimin cups Taehyung’s cheeks. “Tae?”
“I’m good, I’m fine,” he mumbles. “Just…processing the fact that you’re really here.”
Jimin’s eyes soften and he pulls him in for another hug. The three of them stand there holding each other for what feels like hours, just basking in the fact that they’re all together again. Taehyung meets Jeongguk’s eyes over Jimin’s head and they both share a small smile, looking down at their precious boyfriend between them.
“As much as I love you both can I take my coat off?” Jimin says after a few minutes. Taehyung and Jeongguk pull back with sheepish smiles while Jimin unravels his scarf from around his neck and unbuttons his coat. “Okay I’m ready for more,” he giggles after tossing them away and opening his arms.
Jeongguk moves first, his hand sliding up Jimin’s neck to cup his jaw and then he’s leaning down and kissing him and Jimin moans softly, leaning up on his tiptoes as he grips onto his arms. When he pulls away he’s grinning but Jeongguk just looks shy.
He turns toward Taehyung next. “Taehyungie,” he whispers and it’s almost embarrassing how easily he falls into his arms. Taehyung buries his face in the crook of his neck and shoulder, shuddering when he feels Jimin’s lips by his ear. “You okay?”
“Yeah. Just really happy right now.”
Jimin coos and kisses his cheek. “Let’s all go to bed, yeah? You can show me how happy you are then.” Taehyung nods and slides his hand into Jimin’s. Jeongguk grabs his other hand and they start leading him to their bedroom but just before they enter the room, Jimin says, “Wait was that Die Hard I saw on the TV screen just now?”
“Nope,” Jeongguk says with a giggle while Taehyung grins.
“I’m pretty sure that was Bruce Willis–”
“Shh Jiminie, don’t think about it,” Taehyung chuckles, pushing him into the room. “Just lay back and let us take care of you.”
A couple hours later finds the three of them sweaty and naked and curled up under the covers of their bed clinging to one another. Jimin lays between them, an arm wrapped around both of their shoulders while Taehyung and Jeongguk rest their heads on his chest and stomach. “You two sure know how to welcome a guy home,” he laughs. His fingers dance along the bare skin of Taehyung’s shoulder and Taehyung smiles and presses a kiss to his chest.
“And we’ve still got the whole day ahead of us,” Jeongguk smirks. “Just think of all the things we’re gonna do to you then.”
Jimin’s cheeks flush cutely even in the dark. “You spoil me.”
“You deserve to be spoiled,” Taehyung says softly as he leans up on his elbows and presses a feather light kiss to Jimin’s lips. “We missed you.”
His eyes soften. “I’m sorry for lying to you. I hate making you sad.”
“It’s all good. You did that thing with your tongue that I like, all is forgiven.”
Jimin and Jeongguk suddenly let out identical squeaky laughs and Taehyung can’t hold back his own fond laughter, hugging both of his boyfriends as best he can. The day hadn’t quite gone exactly as he had planned but he’s got Jimin and Jeongguk in his arms where they should be.
The three of them are together again and all is right with the world.
