Work Text:

Saiki and Kennedy were at Café Mami. Neither of them had any reason to be there, they just wanted to hang out somewhere (home had gotten suffocating lately as Saiki's mom had found a new obsession with air fresheners). Their conversation was rather sparse, just as Saiki liked it. Kennedy, however, was clearly bored. She was willing to shut up occasionally, but it was clear she wanted to talk about anything.

What's on your mind? Saiki asked.

"Nothing much, I guess," Kennedy responded out loud.

It's clear you want to have a conversation.

"Yeah, well, I don't want to disturb your peace. I could turn off my thoughts, if you want."

You don't need to do that. Just....I don't know. How has school been for you?

Saiki knew it was a dumb question. She was doing well enough to justify her being exchanged to to school, though not well enough to brag to everyone.

"It's...going, I guess."

Saiki took that as confirmation of his thoughts.

Well, that's good, I suppose.

"Not rea- oh, right!" she laughed. "I have to explain. In American English, 'it's going' usually means the person is dying inside."

So...that's bad.

"I mean, I guess? It's been a little tough to focus, and my grades are showing that."

Hard to focus?

"I, uh, kinda have a tiny crush, maybe."

Saiki watched as a slightly generic-looking girl with two hairpins in her bangs appeared in Kennedy's thoughts.

What's her name?

"Uh, Itano Yoriko."

Isn't that the first girl Toritsuka hit on?

"Damn, you have good memory. And yes. After the little...incident that happened between the two of them, I started a 'Girls Who Were Wronged By Toristuka' club with her."

How did you get that past the school administrators? Wouldn't that club count as harassment or something?

"Well, when you can read minds you can gather blackmail a liiiittle bit quicker."

Ah, so morally questionable activity.

'Oh, you and your 'morally questionable activity'. That's rich coming from you, yaknow."

Saiki raised an eyebrow.

And what would you mean by that?

"You only ever save the world if not saving it disrupts you in any way."

Saiki huffed, making Kennedy laugh.

"Aaaaanyway, what about you? Do you have any crushes or whatnot?"

No.

"Figures. Well, have you ever had a crush?"

Saiki thought for longer than he should have.

No.

"Wait, really?"

I haven't had any in recent memory.

"Huh. You're not lying. So you've never had any crushes?"

We've been over this.

"Right, right. Well...uh..." Kennedy trailed off. She started thinking so as to not draw stares from the only other person in the café who wasn't even paying any attention to them.

"You ever...god this is such a weird question...you ever get..."

Just say it.

"h-horny?" Kennedy thought this along with about 1500 apologies.

No, I never have. Considering how I have x-ray vision, clothes start disappearing pretty quickly. Nakedness has lost all meaning to me.

"Well, I guess that's a good explanation. But you've never wanted to...sex? I mean, seeing someone in the nude is one thing. Sex? Totally different."

How would you know? Aren't you under 18?

"W-well yeah, but, yaknow, I just, like, figured."

Saiki sighed.

I see what you're saying. And the answer to your question is no.

"Really." Kennedy leaned back in the booth.

Is that not normal?

"Well, not by regular people standards. I mean, it's not, like, unnatural or anything. Just kinda rare."

You're in the LGBT community, right?

"Yeah, pansexual. Why?"

Is there a letter for what I feel? Or, lack thereof?

"Yeah, asexual. It's a decently well-known label."

I think I'll look into it.

"Oh, nice! I had to struggle with my identity for muuuuuuuch longer than I should have. Oh, there's Mera-chan with our stuff."

Ah, good. Finally, I can have my coffee jelly.

"Is that all you think about?"

Right, because you're allowed to criticize me for liking something.

Notes:

this is canon in the main fanfic (Foreign Exchange Student)

just something short for fun
