Work Text:
You should introduce me to your boyfriend.
Apollo flushed bright red as he read the text that his best friend had sent him. Clay had been absolutely insufferable since he had told him about his little crush on a certain blond prosecutor. And it didn’t seem to help that somehow the newly minted astronaut always seemed to know the worst possible time to send him a message. Like right now. Apollo was sitting in Gavin’s office, waiting for him to finish the work he had so they could go to dinner. The rock star was flitting about his office in the way that he had that was so distracting. Since he was busy though, he texted Clay back.
He’s not my boyfriend, was his response. He had barely looked away when there was a response.
But you want him to be.
“What has you so focused, Herr Forehead?” Klavier said, his melodic voice breaking his concentration. It caused him to fumble his phone for a moment, before putting it away.
“Nothing!” Apollo replied loudly. Even he winced at the volume of his voice. He had to be cooler than this. “It’s nothing. Just, someone being dumb.”
“Hm. Well, it’s not Fraulein Trucy, you never speak of her that way. Herr Wright, perhaps?”
“Oh. Well, no. It’s. He’s...It’s my friend, Clay. I’ve known him since we were kids. He’s just bugging me about something, that’s all.”
Klavier chuckled as he set aside the law book that he had been reading. The lawyer couldn’t help but watch him as he moved, every movement graceful. It seemed as if he was getting ready to leave, gathering his bag holding what appeared to be even more work and his jacket. Apollo got up, heading to the door.
“Ach. Friends can be like that sometimes. We certainly tease each other all the time.”
“Yeah, I guess that we do.” Which was still rather odd to him, that he got along with Gavin so well. They were such opposites, it shouldn’t have worked at all.
“One day, you should introduce me to him.”
Apollo did a double take as he followed Gavin out the door. Of all the things that he could have said, that was not what he had expected. It was up there with Gavin confessing his undying love for him, which was something that would never, ever happen. No matter what he wanted.
“Um. Why?” Apollo asked. When the prosecutor laughed, Apollo couldn’t stop his brow from furrowing. He opened his mouth to ask what was so funny, but didn’t get a chance to as Klavier started talking.
“I think that he would be fun to get to know. You know such interesting people, Herr Forehead. Besides, getting to know him, I may get to know you better,” was Klavier’s response. Apollo sputtered at the blond’s grin, unable to say anything at all. Finally Apollo sighed, rubbing his forehead. These two could be trouble if they got to know one another, but it would be nice to have two of the people closest to him knowing each other.
“We’ll see. He’s really busy right now, so I don’t even get to see him much. But I’ll ask him if he wants to meet you too.” That seemed to end that conversation as they walked to the little diner they had planned to eat at.

“Are you ever going to introduce me to your rock god prosecutor?” Clay asked as he flopped down next to Apollo, handing him the ice cream cone that he got for him. The young lawyer nearly dropped it as he sputtered, glaring at his best friend. Sometimes, he really had the worst taste in friends. Especially since all Clay did was grin at him.
Apollo finally replied, “I. What the hell, Clay? Why would you even just ask me something like that?”
“Because I really want to meet this dude. You make him seem like he’s all kinds of awesome. Besides…” Clay paused as he licked some of the melting ice cream, looking thoughtful. “Besides, you seem happier. For a while there, you were miserable. But you two started having your not-dates and you seem like you’re going to be the one going to go to the stars. I just want to meet the guy that’s making my best friend so happy.”
The attorney rubbed a hand over his face with a sigh. He hadn’t expected such a sweet response.
“It’s not like we’re actually together or anything. He’s just. We’re just friends, that’s all.” Clay gave a nudge with his shoulder.
“Yeah, Justice, I know that. Still, I want to meet him. Even if you two are just friends, he makes you ridiculously happy. I figure he must be a special kind of guy to do that. So, one day, we’ll get together, the three of us. Make a day of it and get to know each other.”
“Yeah,” Apollo replied, sounding a bit wistful. “Yeah, I would like that a lot. Maybe when you get back from your flight. All of us should have some time then.”
“Then we’ll do that. The minute I get back from the HAT-2 mission, we’ll get together. I’ll talk space, you two can talk law, he can talk his music. We’ll be one, big, happy family.”
Apollo grinned at the astronaut, because he had a feeling that Klavier and Clay would get along amazingly. Little did he know that the chance for them to meet wouldn’t come until long after everything fell apart.

“So, Liebling, you said you wanted me to meet someone?” Klavier asked, giving his hand a squeeze.
“Yeah, I did.” Apollo sighed as he led Klavier through the streets of his new home. Klavier had come for a visit to Khura’in after the entire debacle with Ga’ran and the revolution. It had seemed like an awful thing to do, making the decision to stay without consulting Klavier. But the prosecutor had taken the news in stride and, after getting some time off from Edgeworth, had hopped on the next possible plane to head to the country. It still caused Apollo’s heart to ache and made him wonder just how he got so lucky.
“Who do you want me to meet?”
“Well. Okay. So, you know how I told you about mediums and everything? How certain people here in Khura’in can channel spirits so you can talk to them?”
“Ja, you did. But, I’ll admit, it’s a little difficult to believe.” At Klavier’s skeptical tone, Apollo chuckled softly.”
“Yeah, I know. I get it. It’s actually a thing here though.” Apollo took a deep breath before continuing. “Queen Amara, she somehow heard about Clay. And she asked if I wanted to speak with him. Say goodbye and everything, as thanks for what I did. I ended up taking her up on it and got to say goodbye. But then you came, so. I asked if she could channel him again because you wanted to meet him and he said he always wanted to meet you.”
“So, you want to introduce us.” Klavier was quiet for a moment before letting go of the attorney’s hand in order to wrap his arm around his shoulders. Even though Apollo flushed, he didn’t pull away from Klavier like he normally would in public. He needed the contact right now. “I do want to meet him, if this works.”
“And I want you to meet him. He was always bugging me because, well. He knew how I felt about you, so I want him to know that he was right that I should tell you how I felt.”
“I will have to thank him then.” There was the brush of Klavier’s lips against his temple, causing him to sigh. “Because being with you was the best thing that could happen to me.”
“Yeah. It was for me too. I mean, being with you, not being with me.”
Klavier laughed as he fumbled his way through his response. Normally, he would flail and be embarrassed by his mix up, but he was just too warm and happy to think about it. The warmth of Klavier’s laugh carried him the remainder of the way to the palace and the room that Amara had picked for the meeting.
It was obvious that the prosecutor was skeptical as the channeling began with little fanfare. Apollo knew just how open-minded Klavier could be, but this was a little far-fetched for most people. It was rather satisfying though to see the surprised look on his face when it actually worked. Where Amara had been a moment before sat Clay, looking almost exactly as he had when he was alive.
“Is this. Is this real?” Klavier whispered.
“Hey there, Apollo,” Clay said, grinning. Apollo grinned back, happy to see his friend just for a moment.
“Hi Clay.”
“So. How have you been? Keeping out of trouble?” Apollo laughed and shook his head.
“Not really, but you did always think I was a trouble magnet,” Apollo replied. Clay gave a laugh and shook his head.
“Yeah, but you’re fine.”
“Yeah. Yeah, I am fine.” The two friends grinned at each other again. “So. Before everything, well, happened, you had said you wanted to meet Klavier. Well, here he is. Klavier, meet my best friend, Clay Terran. Clay, meet Klavier Gavin. My boyfriend.”
The shocked look on Clay’s face made keeping the news from him worth it. Even when he was alive, it was always hard to shock the optimistic man.
“So, he finally made a move. I can’t believe it,” Clay remarked with awe. Klavier, having gotten over the worst of his shock it seemed, laughed.
“Ja, he made a move. And it was a brilliant one too,” the former rock star told the channelled astronaut, leaning in with a grin. “Do you want me to tell you the story?”
“Oh, yeah. This I’ve got to hear. Apollo was never the best when it came to confessing his feelings.”
“Well, then, you’re in for quite the story…”
Apollo relaxed as he watched two of the people he cared for the most start gossiping like schoolgirls. Maybe it had taken longer than he had thought, but things finally felt right again, for the first time in a long time.
