Work Text:
Jungkook is a simple guy. He’s a normal, regular art student who just wants to graduate as soon as possible so he can get out and do what he’s supposed to do. Does he know what it is? No. Does it matter? Maybe it will, but right now it doesn’t. Right now, what matters is getting his daily dose of coffee.
Jungkook gave a look of disgust after taking his first sip. The vending machine coffee tasted bland again. It’s the only coffee he can afford so it’s not like he could complain about its taste. However, he thought since he’s paying the school, they at least deserve more coffee powder in their drinks. Nonetheless, he continued drinking.
He still had more than half an hour before class started so he took time walking up the four flights of stairs.
Who needs this many stairs? Jungkook thought. My legs better look good by the end of this school year.

“JEON JUNGKOOK !!”
He was greeted with a push as soon as he entered his classroom. He let out a yelp. He was grateful that he finished his coffee before going inside.
He looked at the source of his heart attack: his best friend, Taehyung. Taehyung gave his signature boxy smile before speaking again.
“Kook ! There’s an exhibit at the gallery near the museum. Can we please go after class?”
Jungkook went silent for a few seconds before going, “No.”
Taehyung pouted as he walked past him towards his seat. Second row, fifth chair from the left. The perfect seat where you can see both the left and right side of the board without the light blocking it.
He set down his bag on the floor, ignoring his friend’s whines behind him. Jungkook smiled to himself. Actually, he’s been dying to go to the exhibit as well. He just wanted to tease his friend for a bit.
He faced his friend who was still whining. When he was about to come clean, the door opened and a hearty laugh was heard entering it. Just from the sound he knew who it was.
Jung Hoseok. His crush.
Alongside Kim Namjoon, Hoseok’s crush.
Okay, that’s not true. Everyone just liked teasing them with each other because they’re so close. They even created a ship name for them (Namseok.. sounds kinda cute but Jungkook would never admit it).
Did it bother Jungkook? No.
Is he lying? Maybe a little bit…
He was kinda surprised no one knew about his crush on Hoseok at all. He thought he was pretty obvious yet he was still bombarded with questions about who his crush is during spin the bottle and truth or dare.
Regardless, he sometimes got inklings that Hoseok might actually like him back. He would catch him staring or taking videos of him. Until he sees him talking to Namjoon again. They conversed as if they’re the only two people in the world. Then, those inklings completely disappear.
He was pushed out of his thoughts when Tae approached Jimin, who apparently walked in after Hoseok and Namjoon. He pointed at Jungkook, complaining about how he wouldn’t go with him. Jungkook let out a laugh.
“I was teasing you. Let’s go.”
Taehyung pouted again, then smiled. “I hope you step on a lego.”
Jungkook laughs again.

It was only the second subject of the day. For some reason, time ran slower than ever. Jungkook was mindlessly staring at the presentation in front of him when he saw his notebook get slammed shut. He looked up at the person who did it, the one sitting diagonally from him.
Hoseok.
Their eyes met. Jungkook’s eyes were filled with surprise while Hoseok’s were filled with determination. “What?” Jungkook asked, confusion lacing his words.
Hoseok didn’t reply. He only turned his attention back to the tv screen.
Jungkook, confused as ever, opened his notebook and stared at the presentation again. After 3 slides, his notebook was slammed shut. Again. By the same person. He looked at Hoseok. This time, with a little annoyance.
“What are you trying to achieve?”
Hoseok, once again, said nothing and turned his attention back to the teacher.
Jungkook shook his head and paid attention to the presentation again, not bothering to open his notebook anymore.
Not even 2 minutes later, Hoseok turned back to look at Jungkook. This time, Jungkook stared at him, waiting for his next move.
He slowly opened the notebook only to slam it shut again. How this boy was not scolded by the teacher, he didn’t know.
Jungkook rolled his eyes and let out an exasperated sigh. “Okay what is your problem?”
Jungkook expected many different answers. A smile. A shrug. A giggle. Maybe him going "I just feel like it." But nothing could've prepared him for what he says next.
“I miss annoying someone so I’m going to start annoying you.”
Jungkook was filled with shock. The elder's eyes held a certain degree of determination that made his heart race a bit. However, he wasn’t able to reply because the older one had already turned back to the screen.
Jungkook frowned in confusion, his cheeks slightly tinted with pink.

It’s break time and some students in the class ordered McDonald’s, including Jungkook. He couldn’t resist his craving for fries and a McFlurry.
While eating, he felt a presence behind him. He looked up and saw Hoseok towering over him.
Has he come to annoy me again?
They stared at each other a little longer than necessary. Jungkook broke eye contact and asked him if he wanted fries. Hoseok lit up and smiled at him. He thanked him and walked away, looking for a new victim of his food hunting agenda. Jungkook smiled a little at the boy’s actions.
A few minutes later, Hoseok went back to Jungkook, asking if he could eat the ketchup. Unable to say no, he gave all of it to him. Thanks were given and once again, he left.
Jungkook’s thoughts came back to Hoseok’s words earlier. If being annoyed means seeing his heart-shaped smile directed to him more often, he might just let the boy annoy him to his wits end.
