Work Text:
The late afternoon sun shining down on Akiyama Street was quite pretty, Touya noted. As winter was approaching, the sun was setting earlier and earlier, basking the tall buildings in orange sunlight. It was getting much colder as well, and Touya found himself shivering when he walking under the shadows of the city. He wished he wasn’t wearing his uniform, but instead his everyday clothes; those had more layers and were much warmer. It would also be nice to be just naturally warm, like Akito. Although he enjoyed Akito’s yelps when he would hold his hands for warmth. Yet no matter how cold he was, Akito never pulled his hands away.
Touya smiled fondly and looked over at Akito, who was focussed on the road ahead of them. The way the setting sun reflected off his hair made him look like he was glowing. His boyfriend was like the sun. Radiating warmth whenever they touched, and the centre of Touya’s solar system. He could hardly spend a day without Akito, and that smile he reserved just for Touya. He loved that smile.
Touya finally reigned his thoughts back in when Akito yawned, again. He had seemed very tired during their lunch break, barely visible eye-bags and drooping eyelids proving his thinking. He had also barely said a word the entire walk from school to the station, and he had looked like he was about to doze off on the train. Normally he would’ve noticed Touya staring for this long already, as well.
Touya slipped his fingers through his boyfriend’s, the latter finally glancing at him.
“You seem very tired. Did something happen?” asked Touya.
“Mmh. Ena kept waking me up because her and her friends were being so loud. Barely slept.” Akito yawned again.
“You should rest. You can’t practice like this.”
“No. ‘M fine. The event is soon.” He rubbed his eyes.
“No, you need to sleep,” Touya said as he sharply veered to the right, towards Weekend Garage, and Akito stumbled at the sudden change in direction. “You can barely walk, and you need to be in your best shape for the rehearsal as well as the live show. We still have time before practice.”
“What? No, I said I’m fine. I don’t need to fuckin’ sleep,” Akito grumbled as they walked into the café-bar.
Touya tugged him to the couch behind the bar. He dropped his school bag on the floor, Akito sluggishly doing the same. The former sat down, leaning his back against the armrest. “Here.”
“‘M not fucking sleeping with you when Ken-san’s shop is still open.” Akito insisted, a faint blush rising to his cheeks.
Touya simply opened his arms, beckoning him to join.
“I hate you,” Akito said as his crawled on top of his boyfriend, his breath tickling Touya’s neck. “Wake me up when An and Kohane get here.”
Touya hummed in response, threading his fingers through soft, orange hair as Akito settled down. Once his arms were loosely wrapped around Touya’s shoulders and his forehead against the taller boy’s neck, Akito was asleep within seconds.
Touya couldn’t help the fond smile on his lips. This is where he wanted to be, his place in the universe. In the arms of his best friend, his partner, his boyfriend. Akito’s warmth was almost addictive, and Touya never wanted to let it go again. He rubbed slow circles into Akito’s back, his other hand still running through fluffy hair. Akito relaxed even further into Touya’s embrace, his soft breaths ghosting across the latter’s neck.
He considered cancelling practice for a moment, just so they could stay like this. But their next live performance was approaching quickly, and they needed all the practice they could to perfect their new songs. Touya sighed, and carefully reaching into his bag, trying not to disturb his sleeping partner, for a book. He might as well start on his new novel.
-
Touya was so absorbed in his book that he must’ve not heard the bell ring when the door opened, because suddenly he looked up and Kohane and An were standing beside the couch.
“Uh... Hey, guys,” An said, trying to hide her smug grin behind her hand. “What’cha doing?”
“I- I’m sorry, are we interrupting...” Kohane stammered.
“Oh-“ Touya quickly put a bookmark in between the pages where he stopped reading and put the book back in his bag. “No, Akito barely got any sleep last night, so i recommended that he sleep while we waited for you two.”
Touya looked down at his sleeping boyfriend. Akito had asked that he wake him up when the rest of the group got here, but he was reluctant to do so now. He was sleeping so peacefully, the complete opposite of what he was like when performing; running completely on adrenaline and riling up the audience just as much as he was. But now, Akito was cuddled up against Touya’s chest, his back rising and falling underneath the latter’s gentle hands.
Touya caved in, and gently rocked Akito’s shoulders. “An and Kohane are here, wake up. Practice is starting now.”
“Mmh...” Akito grumbled against Touya’s neck, making him grip the former’s shoulders a bit tighter. “...Tell them to fuck off.”
An burst out laughing, and Touya replied, “they can hear you.”
Akito finally jerked awake, and sat upright on Touya’s lap. “What the hell! Why didn’t you tell me sooner!” he yelled as he scrambled to his feet.
Akito’s face was bright red, and his hair was sticking out even more than usual from Touya playing with it. Cute.
“I didn’t want to wake you up.” Touya stood up as well, shifting his weight back and forth between his legs to try and stretch the stiff muscles a bit.
“Ah, Shinonome-kun... Your hair-“ Kohane started, and An started laughing again.
Akito’s hands flew up to the top of his head, feeling the strands sticking out the wrong way. “Arggh, Touya! What the hell were you doing!”
Touya brought a hand to his chin, regarding Akito with a painfully affectionate smile, and said, “you clearly liked it, though.”
“Shut up,” Akito grumbled, but his flushed face said otherwise.
“Well,” An said as he quieted down. “Are we still up for practice today?”
“Are you feeling any better, Akito? It was only about ten minutes.” Touya asked.
“Honestly, no. I still feel like shit,” he replied, his hands returning to his sides once he deemed his hair fixed.
“Yeah, you do kinda look like shi-“ An started.
“Don’t finish that.”
An’s eyes were gleaming; she was definitely enjoying this. “How about we cancel practice for today, then? We obviously won’t be getting any better at our performance if you’re in this condition, so let’s meet tomorrow instead.”
“Okay! An, do you want to go to the music store with me? There’s a CD I’ve been looking for...” Kohane asked timidly.
“Of course! Let’s go!” An said enthusiastically, nearly dragging her girlfriend with her. “Have fun, you guys!” She called back before the door closed behind her.
Akito sighed, scuffing his foot on the floor and looking away from Touya.
“Can we go to your house, Akito? I don’t really want to go home early...” Touya said.
A warm, genuine smile spread across Akito’s face. “Sure, anything in particular you wanna do?”
Touya tilted his head to the side, watching him fondly for a moment before responding. “I did quite enjoy the cuddling...”
Akito abruptly grabbed his bag, and headed towards the door, trying to hide his blush. “If you ever tell anyone about this, I will kill you.”
Touya nodded, slung his own school bag over his shoulder, and followed him onto the street. Akito didn’t pull away his hand when Touya intertwined their fingers.
-
The majority of their trip home was uneventful, although Akito almost nodded off on his feet while on the train, until Touya would gently pull on his arm to wake him up again.
“Wait until we get home,” the latter insisted. “Unless you want me to carry you.”
“Why’re you talking like it’s our house... I guess it might as well be since you’re over all the time...” Akito mumbled.
Touya’s grip around his boyfriend’s arm tightened. Barely loud enough for Akito to hear over the sound of the train and the chatter of the other passengers, he said “Is that bad?”
“No!” Akito responded immediately, “that’s not a bad thing. I know you don’t want to go home unless you have to, and I...” he trailed off, looking down at Touya’s hand around his arm. “...I like it when you’re over...”
The grin on Touya’s face made that embarrassing statement worth it, and Akito couldn’t help but smile back, even with his flushed cheeks.
“Thank you, Akito. That means a lot to me.”
“No problem,” he said as Touya pulled him closer, their shoulders pressed against each other.
Touya didn’t want to move away, even when the announcement came on the speakers that they had reached their stop. But then Akito pulled away, and dragged him onto the platform and out of the station.
It was already quite dark, the last rays of sunlight barely visible over the rooftops of the houses and apartment complexes. Unfortunately, it was also much colder, and Touya was shivering as soon as they stepped onto the street. And Akito’s house was around a ten minute walk from the station.
Thankfully, Akito noticed his freezing boyfriend almost immediately, and pulled their shoulders flush together, as well as interlock their fingers.
“Thank you, Akito,” Touya said earnestly, a faint blush dusting his cheeks, partly from the cold.
“Sure thing,” Akito responded with a yawn. “I’m really fuckin’ tired again, so I wanna get home fast.”
Touya nodded in agreement, and they set off as quick as they could without Akito stumbling over his own feet.
Once Akito finally managed to unlock the door of his apartment, he kicked off his shoes and made a beeline for his room. Touya took off his shoes and placed them neatly to the side before following the former to his bedroom. The orange-haired boy was already digging through his drawers for comfier clothes, and tossed Touya some.
“You can use the bathroom if you want. If you’re hungry there’s probably enough in the fridge to make a sandwich or something. I’m just gonna sleep already.” Akito said as he pulled out some clothes for himself.
Touya nodded and headed to the bathroom to change. Now that he thought of it, he was pretty hungry, since he only really had lunch that day. He didn’t have time for breakfast because of his dad, again.
Once he finished he quickly made a sandwich, and ate it while debating if he should tell his parents where he was. He decided against it, since they would just call him and ask him to come home. He would just deal with the consequences tomorrow.
Touya ate the last bite, and cleaned up his mess. He saw the pile of dishes in the sink, fighting the urge to clean them right then. Akito’s mom was quite busy with her job, so not many chores got done, especially since neither child wanted to do them. Maybe he would clean them in the morning before school.
He quietly opened Akito’s door. The lights were off, but the sliver shining in from the kitchen was enough for him to make out his boyfriend snuggled up under the blankets. Touya closed the door carefully and stepped over the mess of clothes and pages of lyrics towards the bed.
Touya stopped by his bedside, and to his surprise Akito rolled over to face him, eyes open.
“I thought you were asleep,” said the former, barely more than a whisper.
“No. Waiting for you.” Akito lifted up the blanket, inviting the blue-haired boy under the covers.
Touya crawled in, almost sighing in relief with how warm it was. Their legs tangled together, and Akito buried his face into his boyfriend’s chest. The former could feel him relax in his embrace, and smiled. “Good night, Akito.”
“Mmmh, g’night,” he mumbled as he drifted off.
Even if Touya wasn’t tired, he was completely content to simply hold Akito in his arms. To hold his warmth and not let go until sleep took him as well.
-
The first thing Touya noticed as he began to stir was the warm presence under him. He instinctively pulled closer, trying to absorb all of the heat he could. It was soft too. He slowly opened his eyes, blinking away the blurriness. Aside from a single bright light, the room was still completely dark. Touya seemed to be half on top of Akito, with his arms wrapped around the latter’s waist and his head nestled in the crook of his boyfriend’s neck. There was a hand absently running through his hair, as well. The light was coming from Akito’s phone, who looked like he was typing out lyrics with one thumb.
Touya must have shifted or made a sound, because Akito turned off and dropped his phone to the side, and leaned more into him. After draping his now free arm over the blue-haired boy’s back he spoke quietly. “Hey. Did you just wake up?”
“Mhm,” Touya mumbled. “It’s dark, what time is it?”
“Well,” Akito started. “We kinda went to sleep at like six PM. So right now it’s uh...” he picked up his phone again and let out a breathy laugh. “It’s four AM.”
“Have you been awake long?”
“No, and I didn’t wanna get up anyway since you were still asleep.”
Touya smiled. “Thank you,” he said and then paused. “Were you writing lyrics?”
“Yeah. But before you ask, no, I will not show you. They’re not done, and these aren’t ones I want to actually use for a song or anything.”
“Why not? I like reading your lyrics.”
“I already said no, now shut up before I kiss you.” Akito said, looking away towards the window, even though the curtains were drawn and there was nothing to look at.
“But I want you to kiss me-“
“Shut the fuck up already,” Akito interrupted, rolling Touya over so he could climb on top before capturing his lips.
Touya sighed into the kiss, and reached up to card his fingers though soft, orange hair. Akito was gentle and deliberate, each kiss melding into the next. It was nice to have long kisses with the simple purpose of feeling each other’s lips, rather than the quick kisses stolen between classes when nobody was looking, or before practice.
When they finally parted, they both just looked into each other’s eyes. Touya lowered a hand to rest it on his boyfriend’s cheek, but he caught it and pulled it to his lips, pressing a kiss to his palm, never breaking eye-contact.
The flush on Akito’s face, even visible in the dark, made him look so beautiful. Touya must’ve uttered that out loud, because the orange-haired boy suddenly dropped his head, as well as the rest of his body onto his boyfriend, making a quiet thump and making Touya grunt.
“I love you,” Akito said, muffled from Touya’s chest.
The latter beamed, and drew him closer. Their legs tangled and holding each other close. Touya never wanted to let go, and he was sure Akito felt the same.
“I love you too.”
They still had lots of time before they had to get ready for school, and Touya was still planning on cleaning up the kitchen. But for now, they could embrace each other’s warmth until the sun rose.
