Work Text:
The snow fell out of the sky with nary a sound as you sat in front of the large fireplace at the headquarters. The others had settled down for the night but you appreciated the chance to be alone without all the hustle and bustle. The only sound that bothered you was the crack and crackle of the log in the fireplace. Its warmth rolled over you in waves, staving off the chill in the air. Your favorite mug was warm in your hands as you sat bundled up in the blanket, sinking into the plush rug in front of the fire. The expenses were certainly not spared for this. “Another holiday season.” You rolled your eyes as you heard the radio from the other room. Sales this and sales that. Bleeding the society dry, like always. You hummed along to one of the songs, cause damn it they were catchy. Too damn catchy. It was almost annoying at how chipper the singers all seemed to be. Then again, they made bank during the holiday season. If you were making that kind of money, you’d be fucking chipper too. You were so lost in your thoughts you didn’t hear the sound of scuffed boots on the tiled floor.
“Shall I call you Scrooge?” You tilted your face up at the sound of that smoky voice. “Or sugarplum?” His laugh rolled over your senses, as addicting as nicotine and elusive as smoke. His hands were tucked into pockets as he leaned over the back of the couch you were leaning back against for the moment. His eyes roamed over your face and shoulders in the blanket before landing on the mug in your hands. Your fingers tightened on the warm ceramic.
“Very fucking funny.” Your nose wrinkled at the nicknames as he skirted the edge of the couch. “And I’m not sharing.”
“Scrooge it is then.” He chuckled at the snort you gave him. Teasing you was always a pleasure. The expressions that crossed your face made him want to annoy you more. The couch creaked as he eased himself down onto the cushions behind you. “What’s with that look?” Your eyes were narrowed as you looked over your shoulder. The suspicion blatantly displayed on your face amused him to no end. Spending Christmas eve with you didn’t seem so bad now.
“I don’t trust you.” He arched an eyebrow as a wickedly smug smirk curved on his lips. He leaned forward until his chest brushed the back of your head. You refused to give in and move but the heat that rolled off him in waves was too intoxicating. You didn’t trust him but you didn’t trust yourself more.
“Oh? Should you really be telling me that little ember?” You leaned back slightly as you kept the glare on your face. It was hard when he was this close. The acrid scent of smoke slapped at your senses, softened by the odd sense of nutmeg. You’d never expect it but it did such wicked things to your pulse. Your mouth watered at the urge to run your tongue over his collarbone. You’d heard things about how he looked naked and you were dying to find out if it was true. Did he have piercings everywhere?
“If it wasn’t obvious by now…” You huffed as his fingers nipped the mug out of your hands. Irritation snapped your thoughts back to reality. “Really? Are we stealing hot chocolate now?”
“Hot chocolate? What are you, five?” He laughed at the way your face scrunched up in anger as you furiously thought of a reply. He brought the mug to his lips before taking a sip. The rich, decadent scent of chocolate rolled over his nose but there was a bite to it. That wasn’t normal. He took a long sip of the chocolate and almost choked at the burn that went down his throat.
“What’s the matter Dabi?” He sent you an exasperated look over the mug as he handed it back. “Didn’t you like it?” Your lips curved as you accepted the mug from his outstretched hand. Dabi would likely be suspicious of your hot chocolate, perfect. Now you were in no danger of having it stolen, at least from him.
“What the fuck did you put in that? Moonshine?” The laugh bubbled out before you could stop it. He sounded like a child being sent to timeout. It was cute. “Fucking hilarious.”
“I did say I wasn’t going to share.” You reminded him cheerfully as you took a sip of your hot chocolate. “And no it’s not moonshine.” You snorted as he pushed off the couch and settled down beside you. “What do you think you’re doing?”
“Hand over some of the damn blanket.” You tugged the blanket out of his grip after setting your mug on the table beside you.
“What? No! You’re like a walking furnace I’m not sharing!”
“You’re acting like a fucking kid.” Dabi snarled as he tugged but he underestimated how stubborn you could be. He ignored your quip about being childish himself. You tugged hard and tumbled backwards. He let out a grunt as he was pulled along with you. “Well, well little ember.”
His weight pushed you down into the plush carpet in front of the fireplace. He propped himself up on his elbows as he smirked down at you. This close his body heat warmed you, sending your pulse skyrocketing. His scent and warmth surrounded you, giving you all sorts of naughty ideas. His eyes were mesmerizing this close and they burned as if lit from within. “Get off of me you walking furnace.” Your words lacked any heat as he leaned in.
The metal of the staples on his face brushed your trembling lips. You could almost taste the hot chocolate on his tongue. His lips curved at the shudder that went through your body. He shifted and brushed his lips over the underside of your jaw. His fingers pulled the blanket out from between your bodies as his teeth scraped against the column of your throat. Fingers twisted into the cool material of his jacket while his lips left a blazing trail along your neck.
“Dabi. What are you doing?” The breathy words rasped along his senses as he reveled in your taste on his tongue.
“What we both fucking want ember.” His lips covered yours with a harsh breath. The heat coiled tight in your belly as his tongue brushed yours. His fingers dug into your hips as you lost yourself in the kiss. A throat clearing snapped you both out of the heated haze in your mind.
“I do realize it’s Christmas but could you take this to your room Dabi?” Compress was leaning against the back of the couch, facing the hallway.
“Mind your fucking business.” Dabi snarled.
“You see. Jin and Toga are talking about enjoying the fireplace in here as well. I though, perhaps, you’d like a little more privacy than this.” The blue marble twinkled in the dim lights of the room as Compress twisted them between his fingers.
“Fuck.” Dabi grumbled before he looked down at you. “Come on ember. We’ll finish this in my room.” Before you could answer he pulled back and stood up.
“Oi! Put me the fuck down!” You pushed at Dabi’s head as he scooped you up into his arms. Compress chuckled as he watched the two of you walk down the hallway.
“And a merry holiday season to all.”
