The moon shone on the path under their shoes, as Hoseok dragged Yoongi gently through the forest by hand. Yoongi could still hear their friends from far away, cackling at something or other. Even though it was colder than ever, Yoongi felt warm. Warmth coming from Hoseok’s hand, but also warmth to his cheeks.
His best friend looked beautiful, his black curls falling over his soft brown eyes. Even though it was well past midnight, the older felt very safe.
The pair eventually came across a clearing, and Yoongi gasped as he spotted an iced over lake in the near distance. Hoseok let go of his hand, and Yoongi stepped closer to the lake. It was the most beautiful looking thing. The moon reflected off it and some evergreen trees bordered the edges. He looked back at his friend, to see Hoseok staring at him with a familiar soft expression.
Yoongi smiled at him, and beckoned him over with a mitten covered hand.
“Hob-ah....this is beautiful. How on earth did you find this?”, the elder whispered as Hoseok stood beside him.
Hoseok looked sheepish, his cheeks red with the cold and curls held back by a bobble hat.
“Ah well, the kids dragged me off to get firewood the other day, and Jeongguk started play fighting with Taehyung-ah, and they uh, fell upon this pond”
Yoongi giggled, imagining the scene with their ever playful youngest friends.
“Oh but please don’t tell Jin-hyung, he’ll kill them and we promised not to stress him too much over this trip”, Hoseok looked alarmed, as if Yoongi would ever go past Hoseok’s word.
He would climb a million mountains just to see the younger smile, if anything.
“Hyung won’t say anything Seok-ah, but this is seriously beautiful”
Hoseok nodded, and stepped further towards the lake. He reached out for Yoongi’s hand, which he greatfuly took. He had a feeling he knew what the other had in mind.
It was confirmed when Hoseok slipped his bag of his back, which Yoongi had originally thought was used for fire wood. The bag was unzipped to reveal matching pairs of ice skates. Hoseok looked nervous as he showed them to Yoongi, which caused him to coo over his dongsaeng.
The black haired crouched down to smile at Hoseok, and grabbed a pair of ice skates, smiling as he spotted a vague ‘ Park Jimin ‘ scribbled along the base in black marker. He guessed Hoseok had stolen the shoes from the talented skater in their friend group. He was proven right as Hoseok admitted to begging Jimin to lend him two pairs out of his extensive collection.
Yoongi smiled at Hoseok as he sat down to take off his own shoes, replacing them with the light blue skates. “I presume you want us to skate, Seok?”, he questioned gently, wondering if there was an underlying reason to all this fuss.
The younger stood up, turning away as his tan cheeks blushed. He looked less nervous than he had five minutes ago, thankfully.
“Just thought it would be fun. After all, it is Christmas Eve, and it’s been ten years since we met!”, he exclaimed, suddenly looking so sure of himself.
Ah.
Ten years.
It’s been ten years since they had met. Ten years since Namjoon had introduced the pair. Ten years the pair had been best friends. Also marking seven years that Yoongi had been absolutely dreadfully in love with his best friend.
Yoongi was burst out of his thoughts by a sharp squeak bursting his ear drums. He looked around just in time to see Hoseok fall on the ice, and struggling to get up in one piece. The elder laughed and finished tying his laces, shuffling over to place one cautionary foot on the ice.
The ice was slippier than expected, which Yoongi shoud not have been surprised at. Because, well when was the last time he had stepped foot on a frozen lake? He soon got the hang of it, and drifted over to Hoseok, who looked rather pale.
“Hyung is here, no need to fear~”, Yoongi sing-songed, giggling as he grabbed the other’s hands lightly.
The pair spent ten minutes gliding the rather large lake, laughing as they both slipped onto the cold ice several times. The sky was getting darker, and Yoongi dearly hoped Hoseok had told their friends they went into the woods. They had stopped skating to sit close together, sipping hot chocolate Hoseok had brought in a flask.
As he sneaked a glance at his friend, he realized the other looked nervous, scared even. At a closer glance, he seemed to be shaking lightly. Yoongi placed a gentle hand on Hoseok’s shoulder, causing him to turn his way. He looked so beautiful, his curls slightly damp with the cold, his eyes aglow yet swimming with nerves.
“What’s wrong, Hob-ah?”
With those words Hoseok seemed to shake out of his yeah. The blush on his cheeks intensified, which made Yoongi coo once again.
“Nothing hyung, lets just get on the ice again”
Hoseok stood up suddenly and rushed to grab Yoongi’s hand again, which made him smile. They started skating at a slower pace than before, still clasping onto each others mitten covered hands. The world felt so very at peace, it couldn’t possibly get better than this.
But then it started snowing
White flakes covering both men and the forest surrounding them.
As Yoongi watched the white flakes falling beside them, he felt an arm curl around his waist. A shiver ran down his spine, even in the cold weather, and his cheeks bloomed in colour as he looked slightly up to see Hoseok staring at him.
“Hi”, he whispered, giggling as he noticed how close the pair were.
Yet Hoseok still looked nervous, and yoongi wished he could change it.
Hoseok turned away, stopping the pair from moving further on the ice. “Hyung...I have to tell you something”,
Yoongi smiled, squeezing Hoseok’s hand tighter.
“Of course Seok, you know you can tell hyung anything”
The elder cringed slightly, hoping to god their friends would never see him this soft. It was fairly known in the tight knit group how desperately gone he was for Hoseok, he was used to teasing by Jimin and sometimes even Jeongguk.
Yoongi was brought out of his daze by Hoseok untangling their hands, leaving his own hand bare and cold. The younger nodded, and pulled his hand further on his curls, causing his ears to bend the way Yoongi was obsessed over.
“Okay here goes nothing, hyung i-“, his words were interrupted by Yoongi pulling him closer by the hands, shaking his head with a far too fond smile.
“Nope, i can see you’re nervous about what ever you want to say and I’m here, so hold me and everything will be alright”
Why did Yoongi feel more nervous than anything? Whatever the other had to say was surely nothing big. Most likely just a confession of a horrible present.
But suddenly Hoseok was so much closer, and looking at Yoongi with an unfamiliar look. His eyes were swimming with emotions and a soft smile caused his dimples to poke out. If someone came up to Yoongi right now and ask who the most beautiful person alive was, the elder would point straight at the boy in front of him.
“Yoongi-hyung, i need to tell you before the year ends because it’s been annoying me for years and Seokjinnie-hyung told me if I didn’t tell you by the end of the year he’d never take me fishing again and I’ve started to love fishing with him and-“
“Seok-seok please, deep breaths. I’m right here I’m not-“, Yoongi tried to reassure Hoseok, to calm him from his rambles but his lips were suddenly pushed softly against Hoseok’s and he
Couldn’t breathe.
The love of his life was kissing him and he still hadn’t kissed back and now was not the time for panicking but oh god. He kissed back as urgently as he could, his cheeks burning under the soft snow.
The pair were pulled apart when the younger started crying, his cheeks painted red with tears running down.
Yoongi pushed his mitten cover hands towards Hoseok’s cheeks and giggled, endeared by his friend’s crying but also very very dazed
“Hoseok — baby? Why did you kiss me?”, the question was asked gently, hoping Hoseok wouldn’t panic further.
“ I adore you hyung, I couldn’t help it, im so sorry”
“Oh you stupid brat — hyung adores you too”, all Yoongi could hear were ringing bells but it was okay. The one person he loved more than anything loved him back and was in his arms.
And he was never young to let him go.
