Work Text:

You never thought you would be the type of person to adopt a hybrid, not that you didn’t like them; you just preferred solitude. That is until you came across the cutest little green-haired bunny imaginable. Every time you looked at adorable little Izuku, you remembered the day that he found you, and you loved telling anyone who would listen.

It was the middle of last summer; on one of the warmest days that week, you decided to take a picnic to a park nearby and just spend some solitary hours in the forest. It was the perfect day when you hauled your picnic basket and blanket on your bike down a secluded forest trail until you found the perfect clearing. It looked like a scene from a fantasy book; the surroundings were so green and lush; it didn’t seem real. The clearing was isolated from the rest of the hiking trails. Hence, you were able to easily enjoy your private picnic.

You felt a little like you were in a fairy tale as you spread the blanket out near a large rock setting the picnic basket down within easy reach. You knew you packed way too much food, but you planned on staying out for as long as the weather would allow. Several food containers were pulled out of the basket, as well as a thick book that you hoped you could get through today.

As time passed, you picked at the food you brought, thoroughly enjoying your day being surrounded by the beauty of nature. The quiet of the forest was the perfect setting for you to relax and finish your book. As you sat under the cover of the trees and heard the soft breeze blowing through the leaves and bushes, you heard a more pronounced rustling coming from nearby. Your ear twitched, and you turned towards the sound curiously; it was coming from a bush a few feet from you, and you closed your book to watch.

The bush started wriggling as it became apparent that there was something inside; after a few moments, you watched as the leaves parted and a twitching nose poked out. The nose was followed by the cutest face you had ever seen, surrounded by green hair and covered in freckles and patches of dirt smeared across his cheeks. The most prominent feature was his bright green eyes; they sparkled curiously as they realized that you were there watching him.

He poked his head out even further, and you awed as a pair of fluffy, green bunny ears became visible. You managed to stifle the squeal that wanted to come out but only just, as you didn’t want to scare him away. His eyes flickered between you and your picnic basket as he slowly inched out of the bush. His tattered clothes were torn and covered in dirt and leaves as he came closer to your blanket. You held your breath as you studied the hybrid, who stopped moving as he got to the edge of the blanket, looking up at you nervously.

He leaned towards the basket, his nose twitching as he sniffed the air. Your eyes moved between the basket and the hybrid as you deduced that the poor thing was probably hungry. You reached out towards the basket slowly, keeping your eyes on the bunny as you opened the top and pulled out a sandwich. He tensed as you moved but only followed your hand with his eyes as he watched you take out the foil-wrapped object.

“Are you hungry?” You asked quietly, making sure to speak without raising your voice too much. You unwrapped the sandwich and held it out for him to take. His eyes widened slightly at the sight of the food, he was starving, and your picnic smelled really good; he couldn’t help himself from seeking you out. His eyes shifted between your hand and your face as he nodded slowly and inched forward once more.

“My name is (y/n), can you talk? What’s your name?” You asked as you kept the sandwich held out towards him. The bunny reached out with a small hand and took the sandwich as you smiled gently.

“Izuku, my name is Izuku.”

Those words in his soft, sweet voice were enough to make you fall in love with him. He sat with you that day until your basket was empty, and afterward, he was in your basket wrapped up in the blanket you brought as you rode home. A week later and the adoption papers were filed after a visit to a doctor, and Izuku was your soon to be a very spoiled bunny.

The way you lived your life changed immediately after you brought Izuku home; your precious solitude had been taken over by an adorably affectionate bunny. Surprisingly though, you didn’t hate it; Izuku fit into your life as if he had always been there. You loved him from the tips of his fluffy ears all the way down to his cute little tail.

No matter what happened, Izuku was always there with you. His warm little body was just what you needed any time of the day. As you lay curled up on the couch with Izuku in your lap, you ran your fingers through his soft curls as you thought happily about how lucky you were.
