It was another long lazy day and Gu Yun was yearning for his ever busy Chang Geng by his side. But the emperor had his hands full and could only send wooden birds reminding him to eat on time and to stay warm .
It was by accident that the idle Gu Yun found his Chang Geng's hidden treasure of letters - every one he had ever written and a few he had never laid eyes on but clearly written in his hand and tone. Among them were unsent letters addressed to him lovingly , baring the yearning heart of Chang Geng desperate to bridge the distance to his Zi Xi. The finding moved Gu Yun to go back to that times to find the words to capture his feelings for his Chang Geng
The warmth of you
My dearest chang geng,
Already in full armour standing command at the ship about to face the enemy, I am having the same noodles you made for my birthday when I first left you back at the manor.. with the egg on top. I had done this for every birthday since, hoping to feel closer to the love you have for me.
For the me for whom every day felt the same , you had made me count the passage of time in so many ways. The days since the last taste of your lips, the peach blossoms seasons since I gave them to you, the hours since I last dreamt of you and the months more wait to smell your unique fragrance. There hasn't been many moments though when you were far from my thoughts.
The world has always been a cold place for me. My first taste of warmth was the bowl of noodles made lovingly for me by your hands. The manor was just place before and became a home that I yearned to return only after I realized you would be waiting there for my return.
I never told you this chang geng, you are the anchor that keeps me teethered to this life , looking forward to spring. I know that you have adopted all my burdens to give me peace and I am the end of all your aspirations. I will return soon to bask in your warmth.
