Work Text:

December is one of the most busiest months out of the whole year, and for Mia it has been extremely busy and very exhausting. She hardly had much time to get into the Christmas spirit. She couldn’t bring herself to even decorate with how busy she has been.

Mia absolutely adores the holiday season! She would always go all out for it. Decorating a tree, baking cookies, buying and wrapping gifts for friends and family, drinking hot cocoa and even playing in the snow.

But being the head producer for Miracle Finder, had a lot of duties and not only that but she also had to send in weekly reports to her boss, Victor so that he can continue to fund her small company.

The only bright side of everything was Mia's boyfriend, Gavin. While he has been just as busy as she was, Gavin was always there to make her feel better. And since they were living together, she felt more happy coming home to see him whenever he wasn't on a mission.

And so, on the roughest of days she would always look forward to being with Gavin.

Today was much like any other, long, boring, and stressful.

Mia sat at her desk, the screen in front of her being long forgotten as she stared off into space, not wanting to do anymore work.

She let out an exasperated sigh. Her mind drifted from work to Gavin.

Gavin and Mia had been dating for a while now and they had recently moved in together a few months back.

The two of them enjoyed each other's company. As they always did even before they started dating.

However, with the holidays coming around and with how busy the two of them have been, they haven't had much time to spend with one another. She missed him; She missed his presence, his warm hugs, his soft kisses.

Mia ran her fingers through her brunette locks slowly, a bit of blush tinted her cheeks light pink.

Which always happened whenever Gavin was on her mind. She had messaged him a while ago, just to check on him, but he hasn't gotten back to her.

She knew that he was on a mission, as he told her about being gone a few days prior to said mission. But he didn't tell her when he'd return.

Hopefully he'd return before Christmas. This year would be considered as their first Christmas together as a couple. And she would want to spend it with him and him only.

And she hoped he would be okay and not end up in the hospital.

At times whenever Gavin would return home from missions, she'd notice if there was a fresh new bruise or cut on his body.

And while she'd always expressed her concern for him. He'd always reassure her and would promise and insist that he was fine.

But Mia knew her boyfriend, and he would sometimes be stubborn about his own well being whenever it came down to himself. Even when he'd always be looking out for her.

She could only hope that he was alright. Her eyes trailed from her computer to her phone, no new messages or calls from him. It's been like that for the past couple of days.

Her last message she sent to him was, " Are you okay? I haven't heard from you in a few days… I hope you are alright.'

Followed by another message ' I miss you…'

Another saddened sigh escaped her. However she didn't seem to realize that Minor was trying to get her attention for the past ten minutes.

"Boss?" He called once again. She snapped out of her thoughts, she looked up at him, seeing a rather concerned look on his face.

"Is everything alright? You've been in a daze for more than ten minutes. She frowned. As she averted her gaze.

"I'm fine… I'm just worried." She spoke after a moment of silence.

"Worried about what?" He asked, sitting down beside her. Mia looked at him. "Gavin. I miss him. He's on a mission and I haven't heard back from him in a few days."

Minor frowned. "I'm sure he's okay. He's just been busy! You know how busy he could be." He reassured her.

"I know… I just want to see him is all." She felt tears well up in her eyes but she blinked them away. "I'm worried that he'll get hurt and I wouldn't know…" Her voice wavered.

"There have been times when he's been in the hospital and I just…" She took a deep breath, trying not to let her tears fall. "I just want him to be okay…" She sniffled.

"Don't worry. He can handle himself well, you know that." He smiled gently at her.

She sniffled as she nodded slowly.

"Why don't you take the rest of the day off? I was actually talking to Anna about you taking the day off." He spoke.

"What? I can't take the day off. There is still so much to do…"

"She figured you'd say that, so she already went ahead and decided to do everything for you today. She even talked to Victor about giving you an extended deadline for your report." He said with a chuckle.

"All you need to do is rest." Minor spoke with a serious tone. Mia sighed, giving in. "Alright, thank you guys. I appreciate it." She stood up as she shut down her computer before grabbing her belongings and leaving the office.

---

Mia stood at the front door of her and Gavin's house. She pulled out her keys as she stepped inside.

She looked around, seeing how bare the house looked without any Christmas decorations. "Maybe now that I have the time to, I can decorate."

She dropped her belongings on the table as she headed to the bedroom to change into something more comfortable.

Mia had decided to change into some grey sweatpants and a tank top. She pulled up her brown locks into a ponytail so that it would not get in the way. A few strands of hair hung off the side of her face.

After finding all the decorations, she placed them all on the floor of the living room, open and ready to display and decorate. Just as she was just about to put up the tree, the sudden sound of  the front door open and close caught her attention.

Gavin was back.

Her eyes widened as she quickly made her way to the front door. And her surprise quickly morphed into happiness and relief.

"Gavin!" She called out as she ran over and practically crushed him into a hug.

Gavin, surprised from the sudden attack, stumbled back a bit but caught himself before the two of them could fall.

A smile appeared on his face. The tiredness he felt before long vanished the moment he had her in his arms.

"Hey," His voice came out rather soft as he wrapped his arms around her, holding her close to him. " I'm home. "

Mia sniffled as she held onto him tightly. "I'm so glad you're home…" her voice came out as a whisper. "I was so worried." She looked up at him, her brown eyes glossed over with fresh tears waiting to fall. "Why didn't you answer my texts?"

Gavin's smile soon turned into a frown, he didn't mean to make her worry over him. He gently placed a hand on her cheek, his fingers wiping away at the stray tears that managed to slip down her cheeks. "I'm sorry… The mission took longer than I had expected. I didn't mean to make you worry."

He leaned down, placing a soft kiss to her forehead, in hopes to calm her down just a little bit.

Mia relaxed at his gentle kiss. Something she missed the most in the days he has been gone. "It's okay.. I'm just glad you are back and not hurt…"

Gavin gently stroked her cheek as a small smile returned on his face, "I'm okay… You don't have to worry anymore."

A moment of silence passed before he asked, "How come you aren't at the office working? Did something happen?"

"Oh," Mia let out a gentle sigh, "Nothing happened, they gave me the rest of the day off because I was stressed and had a hard time focusing."

"So now I decided to spend the rest of the day decorating for Christmas." A pause. "Would you like to help me?" She asked, a sweet smile on her face.

"Of course I'll help you." He spoke, a soft smile on his face.

She then grabbed both of his hands, and led him into the living room, her eyes sparkled with joy, "Perfect! I was just about to put up the tree!"

He smiled, he enjoyed seeing her happy. That was something he'd want to see for the rest of his life, being by her side.

And just like that, the two of them got to work on putting together the tree. Once the tree was up and standing, Mia pulled out some colorful lights.

Once they figured out how to untangle the lights, the couple worked around the tree to make sure the lights covered each and every branch.

The two of them eventually got all the lights onto the tree, as Gavin plugged them in, the two of them looked at their work.

Mia was practically beaming with joy, her smile widened. "It looks great!" She then looked to Gavin, who was looking at her, a loving smile on his face.

"Yeah, it does." He spoke as his amber eyes trailed from her, looking at the glowing tree before them.

This was the first time he had done something like this. Normally, he wouldn't do much for the holidays. He'd be too busy working.

However, ever since she came into his life, things changed. And being with her made everything all the more brighter.

He was happy. Being with her made him happy. And that was something that he wouldn't ever want to be without.

And if doing things like this every year made Mia happy, then he wouldn't mind doing it every single year after that.

The two of them took a break before putting up the christmas ornaments to eat some lunch together. They aimlessly chatted about random things, and even shared some loving moments between one another.

It was long before they went back to work, adding all the ornaments to the tree. Which took some time but it was fun nevertheless.

The couple had a great time. That's what truly mattered to them. And doing this together made it all the more fun.

Once the final ornaments were placed on the tree the two of them stepped back, gazing at the tree once again.

Mia lightly bounced in her spot. "It looks beautiful! But… It's missing something."

Gavin looked at her, "What is it?"

She stepped away, looking through all the boxes until she found the item she was looking for: the star.

She held it up, looking at him, "We can't forget the star! Come help me put the star on the tree!"

He nodded, with a smile as he got her a ladder to use to put the star on the top. Of course he made sure that she wouldn't fall by holding onto her waist. "Be careful." He spoke gently.

Mia steadily held the star in her hands as she then placed the star on the top of the tree. After making a few small adjustments to it, she hummed with a satisfied grin on her face.

"Perfect!" She giggled as Gavin helped her down.

She softly grabbed Gavin's hand, intertwining their fingers together as she gazed at the tree. "We did a good job!"

Gavin looked from the tree to Mia, his gaze lingering on her, the same smile on his face. "It was fun. I've never done something like this before."

She looked at him, "Well then let's make it a tradition every year!" She then let go of his hand as she wrapped her arms around his neck, she smiled sweetly, her cheeks flushing lightly. "That is… If you want to."

His hands found their way around her waist as he pulled her close. "I like the sound of that." A pause, "Anything you'd like to do is fine with me."

She giggled softly, as she leaned up, placing a soft kiss to his cheek. "Great! I wouldn't mind spending every holiday with you..." Her eyes softened with love and joy.

His cheeks flushed from the sudden kiss, his gaze averted from hers as he tried to compose himself. She only let out a soft laugh at his adorable reaction.

Oh how he adored hearing her laugh…

Seeing her beautiful smile, much like everyday, he adored it. Her smile being something he admired most about her.

Gavin then brought back his gaze to her, a smile appearing on his face, "Spending every single day with you, is something I wouldn't mind doing for the rest of my life."

Now it was her turn to flush, her cheeks turned bright red as she soon buried her face into his chest, hiding her face into his shirt.

He let out a soft chuckle, stroking her hair gently as he held her. Yes, this was something he would love to keep doing everyday.

After Mia was able to control her flustered face, she looked up at him as if she remembered something, "Ah, I forgot to ask you, what would you want as a present for Christmas?"

Gavin looked at her, his amber eyes showing so much love and affection. All reserved for her and her alone.

Did he really need a gift? No. He didn't. Not when she was the gift that he had wanted.

Not when she was the love of his life. And with that in mind, He answered with "I don’t need a present if I’ve got you."

Gavin gently cupped her face into his hands, a loving smile on his face once again. "You are everything that I've ever wanted. You are the best gift I could ever ask for."

He leaned in closer, their noses touching, his voice coming out as a soft whisper. "I love you, Mia."

She stared at him, her face turning red once again. Hearing those three words made her heart flutter with joy.

Mia mustered up the courage to speak out the words that her heart felt for him. "I...I love you too, Gavin." She whispered softly.

And she truly did love him. More than anything in this universe. She would always love him no matter what.

With that being said, Gavin's smile grew as he closed the distance between them, placing a soft yet loving kiss to her lips.

One that she reciprocated gladly.

There will never be a day in which she wouldn't stop loving him, nor would he ever stop loving her.

And spending the rest of their lives together would prove how much love they shared for one another.
