It’s just past sunset. It’s been a fine day and you’ve been very productive. Very productive indeed. You stand in front of Resident Services and survey your handiwork, hands on hips.
Fish tanks. Fish tanks as far as the eye can see. You started putting them all on the beach, but quickly ran out of room and started putting them on the grass instead, stacking up what you could.
Isabelle, who has come out to see what in the world you’ve been up to, stares at them, her eyes wide.
“Uh...” she says. Clearly she’s lost for words. Is that a good thing?
“You said ‘decorate’!” you say proudly, sweeping out a hand to encompass your handiwork. “Well, I’m decorating!” You have another red snapper that you need to put somewhere, but you’re not sure where. There must be a spare spot around here...somewhere.
“That’s a lot of fish,” Isabelle says. It sounds like a question, but you don’t think it really is.
“Sure is! I’ve been fishing all day!” You smile brightly at her. You’ve gone through so many fishing rods that you lost count and, whew, the sharks! You think you’ve found your new favourite hobby. This island is so awesome.
“So, how does it look?” you ask her.
“I guess it’s fine?” she says.
You frown, wondering if you should move a few things around. Maybe you could put all the squids together. They might like that.
“So, who’s going to look after all these fish?” Isabelle asks, looking at you. “You know you’re going to have to feed them, right?”
You hadn’t thought of that when you came up with this idea. Maybe your friends will give you a hand? They water your flowers for you sometimes.
“They’ll be fine! Besides, now we’re an aquarium island! Isn’t that cool? We want tourists, after all,” you say.
Isabelle thinks. “Well, I guess so. I mean, we could put a nice pool area or something. If we can find a spare spot?”
You think Tom can help you with a pool. “Great idea! We’ll advertise as a water park or something! So, how many stars is this?”
Isabelle looks around. “It’s not exactly what I had in mind, but, oh, let’s say four stars? We need more bridges and inclines to help people get around, though. And that pool...actually, I’d really like a pool!” She looks at you hopefully, hands clasped in front of her. “It’s summer after all and I’m sure everyone would love it!”
“I think I know a good spot for a pool area up on the cliffs. We’ll need an incline for people to get to it without a ladder, so I’ll talk to Tom!”
“Great!” Isabelle says. “Wow, I guess this is going to work out. I’ll get back to work, then.”
She seems happy now as she goes back inside, so you must have done something right today. And four stars! That’s one more than this morning.
You look around in the fading light.
Feeding all these fish is going to be a bit of a pain, you think. Should have thought about that, but on the other hand if you ever need bells, well, you can always just sell some fish.
