Work Text:
Akutagawa closed the door really carefully, wincing when it still made an awful screeching sound. His heavy shoes were thrown somewhere on the floor as he took off his precious coat and gently hung it on a hanger. He clung onto it, breathing in deeply, trying not to fall asleep on the spot.
“How did the mission go?” Akutagawa almost jumped bewildered and then turned around to face Atsushi leaning on the wall.
“Good,” Akutagawa simply replied. He leaned in to a gentle hug, them barely touching each other, and he inhaled in the crook of Atsushi’s neck. “Why aren’t you sleeping? It’s so late already”
“I’ve been waiting for you,” Atsushi whispered, pulling Akutagawa closer into a tight hug, but immediately stepped back when he heard him groan in pain. “Are you hurt? I knew it... See? That’s why I was waiting for you. You never take proper care of yourself!”
Akutagawa huffed. “It’s nothing serious. And I’m tired, goodnight.” He tried to escape to bedroom but Atsushi grabbed his arm.
“Come on, I’ve spent the whole evening waiting to take care of you and when you come back you’re acting like a total asshole... Not that I’m surprised”
“Jinko, just let me go to sleep,” Akutagawa murmured, pinching the bridge of his nose. But there was hesitation in his voice and a delicate smile on his lips, so it was a matter of seconds for him to break the character.
“Despite you needing to be taken care of, I’d never let you go to bed like that. You’re dirty and smell like sweat and blood,” Atsushi said, crossing his arms, probably in order to look more intimidating, which didn’t do its job. Akutagawa let out a small breathy laugh. “I guess I’ll have to sleep on the floor tonight”
Atsushi rolled his eyes and grabbed Akutagawa’s hand. “I don’t think there will be need for that.” They entered the bathroom and Atsushi seated Akutagawa on the closed toilet, patted his head and started looking into a shelf for hydrogen peroxide. “So where exactly are you hurt?” he asked, still looking through the shelf.
“Uh, it’s not much... Today was rather calm. Although I think I was bleeding somewhere here.” Akutagawa motioned to his chest.
Atsushi huffed, not satisfied with the imprecise answer. “Take your shirt off,” he commended standing in front of Akutagawa with gauze and hydrogen peroxide in his hands.
Akutagawa, as asked, removed his shirt and was ready to throw it somewhere on the floor but Atsushi frowned, put the first aid supplies on the sink and softly said “Give me that.” He took the bloodied shirt out of Akutagawa’s hands and put it into a basin.
Akutagawa curled, pulling his legs up to his chest and hugging them. He rested his cheek on his knees and sleepily watched his boyfriend, who was adding bleach into the water with Akutagawa’s shirt. His eyelids were getting heavier and heavier with every passing second.
Finally Atsushi turned back to him, smiling warmly. He wetted the gauze with hydrogen peroxide and leaned in. “Ah, it’s not deep,” he said, cleaning the wound. Akutagawa didn’t even wince, used to the tingling feeling.
Atsushi proceeded to clean every, even very little, new cut and scratch on Akutagawa’s body, giving each of them a small kiss.
“Take a quick shower and I will make us some tea,” said Atsushi, straightening his back.
Akutagawa grimaced “Do I have to?”
“Yes, honey. As much as I understand that you’re tired, you just smell so awful. Sorry not sorry.” He ruffled Akutagawa’s hair and walked towards the door. “Call me when you’re done so I can dress your wounds”
Akutagawa didn’t answer, trying to find energy to even stand up and annoyed with how bossy Atsushi was. Or caring. Or both, actually.
“Oh, and wash your hair!” Akutagawa heard from the outside of bathroom.
This time he groaned and glared at the door, even though Atsushi couldn’t see him.
After some time he did stand up and go into shower, and not much later he heard Atsushi slipping back into the bathroom. Akutagawa washed the shampoo off of his hair one more time, turned off the water and opened the cabin’s door.
Atsushi was standing in front of him with a fluffy towel in hands and a warm smile on his face. Akutagawa sighed but stepped out of the shower and let his boyfriend carefully dry him.
“Okay, here’s your tea, it’s still hot though,” Atsushi motioned to the sink, where two cups of tea were standing. “And I will take care of you”
“Tea party in the bathroom, how romantic,” Akutagawa commented, but nonetheless smiled and obediently sat back on the closed toilet. Atsushi rolled his eyes and turned to him with a pile of bandages in hands – a last year’s Christmas present from Dazai.
“I’m trying to be a nice partner, you know?” Atsushi sighed and started to carefully dress Akutagawa’s wound.
“I know, I know.” Akutagawa gently patted Atsushi’s head and gave him a little smile. When Atsushi finished dressing his biggest wound, he leaned and grabbed the cup of tea and took a sip while Atsushi rushed back to the shelf, looking for something again.
Akutagawa almost squealed when he returned with a package of small plasters with drawings of animals on them. Akutagawa would never admit this out loud, but he admires all those cute little things Atsushi does. They make him feel calm, safe and in a sudden need of kissing Atsushi on the forehead.
Atsushi finished covering all of Akutagawa’s scratches and helped him put on his pyjamas (really fluffy and with a picture of a white tiger on them - another thing Akutagawa would never admit to).
“Alright, grab your tea and come on,” Atsushi said, taking one of Akutagawa’s hands into his and leading him out of the bathroom.
When they got to bedroom Akutagawa once again felt how tired he was, so he put the cup of tea onto the bedside table and almost threw himself onto the sheets, happily inhaling into them at the feeling of comfortable coldness. “Good night,” he said.
“Hey, won’t even you let me brush your hair?” Atsushi complained.
“No,” Akutagawa simply stated. “Sleepy,” he hummed into the pillow.
“And what about tea? It will be cold tomorrow”
“We can always microwave it in the morning,” Akutagawa murmured and opened one eye just to enjoy the horrified expression of his boyfriend.
“You did not just say that.” Akutagawa didn’t even have enough energy to keep the conversation going so he just exhaled a breathy laugh into a pillow, expecting some more bothering from his partner but surprisingly Atsushi turned off the light and snuggled into him. He patted the bed and Akutagawa like a little kitten getting ready for sleep and then curled into a ball, nuzzling Akutagawa’s neck and almost actually purring.
And this man claims he’s not a furry, Akutagawa chuckled and started softly stroking his hair.
“I love you, Ryuu”
“I love you too, Atsushi,” answered Akutagawa and Atsushi smiled at the usage of his actual name.
There was silence for a second.
“But we’re not microwaving the tea though”
“Sure, Jinko, sure.” Akutagawa gave him a last forhead kiss and they both fell fast asleep.
