Up in the Clouds

Summary:

Hoseok gets stuck in the airport after a disastrous attempt to surprise his boyfriend in America. Newly single after the sudden breakup, he's disappointed when a snow storm delays his trip indefinitely for the night. But when he runs into Yoongi, a friendly stranger who just so happens to be the pilot of his flight back home to Korea, Hoseok finds some unexpected solace in his company on the holiday. He decides to leave behind the pain from his past relationship, and embrace someone who makes him feel happy for the new year. Fireworks go off in the sky and in his heart when the clock strikes midnight, and the two of them share the first of what will be many kisses.

Work Text:

Yoongi isn’t nosy by any definition.

In fact he’s quite the opposite; he’s the type of person who avoids small talk at all costs, keeping his head down and making a point not to make eye contact with anyone who crosses his path.

It’s not that he’s rude, he just… never quite knows what to say. Being in crowds and dealing with unexpected situations isn’t easy for him. He’s not like his best friend Seokjin, who could walk up to a stranger and have them laughing in a few minutes flat. Yoongi didn’t exude charm ; a much more proper adjective to describe him would be awkwardness.

Which is why, as he sits at the bar, he doesn’t quite know what to do when a beautiful boy takes the seat directly next to his — the only one left — talking a mile a minute in his native tongue of Korean.

He knows he’s not supposed to know what the stranger is saying. They’re in Los Angeles on New Year’s Eve, so the airport is completely packed. There’s people from all corners of the globe crammed inside of LAX, so it’s obvious the boy is using Korean precisely so that he can’t be understood.

And yet, he has the bad luck of sitting next to Yoongi, probably the only person in the immediate vicinity who is capable of comprehending him.

He’s a fucking asshole. ” The boy huffs. “ My grand surprise was a total disaster. ” He motions to the bartender. “Can I have a strawberry margarita? Frozen if possible. Thank you.”

He huffs, running a hand through his brown curls. “ No, I was just ordering a drink. God knows I need one. To think I was obsessing over my outfit for hours, when all along he was sneaking around behind my back. I caught him in bed with another woman. And here’s the kicker; apparently she’s his girlfriend! This entire time I’ve been the side piece he’s been stringing along in Korea and I was none the fucking wiser. ”

Yoongi chokes a bit on his whiskey at that revelation, and that draws the stranger’s attention. He looks away too slowly, feeling the other man’s stare upon him.

Listen, Minnie… I’ll have to call you back. No, don’t worry about me. Enjoy your New Year. Give Jungkookie a kiss for me and enjoy your perfect relationship while the rest of us suffer. ”

He says his goodbyes and hangs up, perching up on the bar as he considers the man next to him. “You overheard my entire conversation, didn’t you?” He asks in his native tongue.

Yoongi looks over sheepishly, his cheeks pink. “Guilty as charged.”

“Wow.” The man runs his hands through his hair frustratedly. “Of course I manage to embarrass myself even more on what has probably been the worst day ever.”

“You didn’t!” Yoongi reassures him, trying not to stare. The man sitting next to him is beautiful in a stunning way; large, almond-shaped brown eyes and a heart shaped mouth that is spread into a smile despite his current predicament. He simply can’t help but stare. “It’s my fault… I shouldn’t have been listening.”

“Oh, don’t apologize.” The man waves him off. “I’m the silly one who decided to have a very private conversation in a room packed full of people. Never assume that you’re speaking in confidence in a public place. I’m pretty sure that’s like Adulting 101. Sorry, I don’t know where my manners have gone. I’m Jung Hoseok.” He offers Yoongi his hand.

“Min Yoongi.” He replies, taking the pretty boy’s hand and shaking it. Hoseok has soft, delicate hands, and Yoongi might have held on a little too long than what is socially acceptable. The moment is only broken by the arrival of the bartender, and Hoseok pulls away to pay for his drink.

“So Min Yoongi,” Hoseok starts, picking up his margarita. “What brings you to LAX on such a fine evening?”

Yoongi opens his mouth to answer, but is interrupted by the hostess.

“Captain Min, your table will be ready in just a few minutes.”

“Oh, thank you.” Yoongi nods, truthfully little sad that he doesn’t have an excuse to linger, which is strange because Yoongi doesn’t ever go out of his way to make conversation, especially with pretty strangers.

The woman bows and goes to move away, but Hoseok calls out to her. “Excuse me, I was wondering if I had to put my name on a waiting list? I was hoping to dine here for dinner.”

“I’m sorry, sir.” She frowns. “With all the cancelled flights tonight, we’re completely booked up. You’re welcome to stay at the bar if you’d like to enjoy drinks, but we won’t be able to serve you food.”

“I understand.” Hoseok smiles despite the bad news, sighing once she walks away. He looks over to Yoongi, shrugging. “I really shouldn’t be surprised; with the way my life’s going, I’m lucky that I even managed to get a margarita.”

“Captain Min?” The hostess returns. “If you would follow me right this way.”

Yoongi stands up reluctantly, a bit hesitant to move away. Hoseok seems to read his mind, because he smiles and waves him on.

“Go ahead. Just because I’m suffering tonight doesn’t mean you have to. Enjoy your dinner, Yoongi. And thanks for being kind to me.”

Oh how Yoongi wishes he were his hyung right now. If Seokjin were here, he’d smile and compliment Hoseok’s pretty face in a way that would be smooth instead of creepy. He’d make a quip about Hoseok’s eclectic fashion sense and about being too out of touch with what’s hip these days to be so on trend, which would earn a laugh out of Hoseok and maybe even a compliment in return. He’d look directly into Hoseok’s eyes and ask for the pleasure of his company, and he’d manage to turn a chance meeting into a legitimate date.

But instead Yoongi is Yoongi ; which means he ends up standing there silently staring at Hoseok like some sort of idiot for longer than what is normal, to the point where the hostess actually calls out his name again.

“Sorry, I—” He huffs, scratching at the back of his head nervously. He can almost hear the disembodied voice of Seokjin in his ear screaming at him to stop being so shy and ask Hoseok out, but it’s much easier said than done.

You literally fly airplanes for a living, but you’re too scared to ask out a cute boy , Seokjin would scold him. You’ll miss out on something wonderful if you don’t put yourself out there.

“Yoongi…?” Hoseok quirks an eyebrow at him, pulling Yoongi out of his reverie.

Fuck it, he thinks to himself, taking a deep breath and deciding to just go for it.

“Actually… I was wondering— would you maybe…” He sighs, twisting his hands. “Would you like to join me for dinner?”

The most curious thing happens.

Hoseok stares at him open-mouthed, his pretty eyes widening in surprise. But then he smiles , slow and sweet like honey, his entire face lighting up. “Yeah. Yeah… I would really like that.”

They both grab their drinks and their carry-ons, rolling them through the winding rows of tables to a corner back booth. They both take their seats with matching shy smiles.

So .” Hoseok is the one to break the ice. “ Captain Min?”

“Ah.” Yoongi flushes. “It’s always slightly embarrassing when people call me that outside of the cockpit.”

“You’re a pilot?” Hoseok whistles, taking a sip of his drink. “Color me impressed.”

“For about five years now.” Yoongi shrugs. “Learned while I was in the service, but I made the transition to commercial. Was lucky enough to get picked up by Korean Air, which is basically every pilot’s dream.”

“Wait.” Hoseok reaches into his little fanny pack — which is as ridiculous as it is adorable — pulling out a boarding pass. “Any chance you were scheduled to fly flight KE018?”

Yoongi nods. “Nonstop, straight to Seoul. My favorite route.”

“Get out of town.” Hoseok laughs, which Yoongi discovers is a beautiful sound. “How coincidental is this?!”

“Pretty coincidental.” Yoongi agrees. “I’m sorry our flight got pushed back because of the weather.” He looks out of the large windows, the sudden snow as inexplicable as it was inconvenient.

“I’m literally convinced the universe is making a joke out of my life.” Hoseok huffs. “It hardly ever rains in LA, let alone snows . Climate change is totally working against me.” He pouts. “After the shitshow that was last night, my one consolation was that I’d be able to get on that plane and head home. Leave all the drama behind me. But of course—” He motions outside. “Things are never that simple.”

They order their food and another round of drinks. Usually Yoongi avoided alcohol when he was working, but since their flight had been permanently delayed until the next morning, he was okay to have a couple.

Yoongi was quick to tell Hoseok that he would be treating him for dinner, encouraging him to order whatever he wanted.

“I have a sneaking suspicion you’re my hyung…” Hoseok says teasingly, smiling at him over his glass.

“What makes you so sure?”

Hoseok laughs lightly. “You mean besides you tripping over yourself to take care of things?”

“Maybe I’m just trying to take care of you.” The line slips out before Yoongi even realizes, and it makes him get shy all over again. “Sorry… that probably came out wrong.”

“No, it was sweet.” Hoseok says sincerely. “I was born in ‘94.”

“You were right.” Yoongi raises his glass in jest. “It’s ‘93 for me.”

“So I am still good at reading people.” The younger man smiles triumphantly. “It’s nice to have a little reassurance, especially after recent events.”

“Do you… want to talk about it?” Yoongi asks quietly. “Admittedly, I don’t exactly have nearly as much experience with romance as I do with flying, but I have been told that I’m a good listener.”

“I don’t want to bore you…”

“I doubt you could ever bore me.” Yoongi says matter-of-factly, and it seems to be what Hoseok needed to hear.

“Okay.” Hoseok shifts in his seat. “Honestly? Having a nice, good old-fashioned rant over margaritas might be just what I need.”

“I’m not here to judge. About anything . That would be… very hypocritical of me.” Yoongi is blushing furiously, but he hopes Hoseok understands his insinuation without him having to spell it out.

The other boy picks up on it, his eyes looking at Yoongi appreciatively. “It’s nice to be with a man who understands… especially in a foreign place.”

Yoongi gives him an easy smile. “So what’s your boyfriend’s name?”

Ex-boyfriend .” Hoseok corrects him firmly. “His real name is Sangwoo, although he went by Sebastian with all of his fancy American friends.”

“Sebastian?” Yoongi laughs a little. “That’s very…”

“Little Mermaid chic?” Hoseok giggles along with him. “Personally I would’ve picked Eric, but to each his own.”

Hoseok sighs. “He was sort of a… conundrum, to put it lightly. Whenever we were in Korea together, things would be great. But anytime we were in the states and surrounded by his friends… he always just acted a little differently when he was Sebastian instead of Sangwoo. I thought it was because he was new to being out and trying to navigate that transition. But the reality was that all of his friends knew he had a girlfriend, so I’m sure that made things awkward when I decided to come around for a visit.”

Yoongi frowns, sipping on his whiskey. “You didn’t deserve to be his dirty secret. That’s on him; not you.”

“Thanks.” Hoseok takes a deep breath. “I’ve only been telling myself that at least ten times an hour.” He shrugs. “I know it’s not my fault because I had no idea, but it’s hard not to feel stupid. There were so many red flags and warning bells that I just ignored. I told myself it was just part of the challenges that come along with being in a long-distance relationship.”

“How did you two meet?” The pilot asks curiously.

“I’m actually a professional dancer.”

Yoongi’s eyebrows raise. “Really?”

“Not like that .” Hoseok laughs. “My clothes stay on when I perform.”

“Oh my god, I didn’t mean—” Yoongi hides his face behind his hand. “ That is not where my mind went. I was legitimately impressed by your career, not insinuating you were well acquainted with poles and tassels.”

“Well if we’re being honest, I am an avid fan of stripperobics. I go to a studio in Gangnam once a week just to keep things interesting. It’s a great workout… really tightens up your core.” The dancer grins wolfishly. “And I might have some tassels in my bedroom. For personal use, not professional.”

Yoongi shakes his head, laughing. “You’re something else, Jung Hoseok.”

“I’m definitely a handful, that’s for sure.” Hoseok chuckles in agreement. “But on a more serious note, I’m a choreographer in Seoul. I’ve been blessed enough to do some worldwide tours with big names. When it comes to my career, I definitely can’t complain.”

“So how does your ex come into the equation?”

“He works in the industry too.” Hoseok takes a long gulp from his margarita. “That should have been my first warning; everyone knows not to mix business with pleasure.”

“It can definitely make things complicated…”

“Sangwoo was born in Gwangju… it was something we had in common. His parents moved him overseas when he was in high school, and he went on to graduate from a performing arts university in the states. But he got recruited at an audition for one of the big entertainment companies back home, so he ended up moving to Seoul in his twenties. He became a trainee, and he was on track to debut as an idol.”

“I’m sensing there’s a but…”

“He didn’t make it to the final line-up. The company offered to keep him on as a trainee, but they usually space out debuting new groups every couple of years and once you reach a certain age…”

“They probably move on to younger prospects?” Yoongi guesses and Hoseok nods.

“Exactly. But Sangwoo was extremely talented; so when he declined to stay on as a trainee, they gave him a job as a backup dancer. That’s how we were introduced; I was responsible for the choreography for a music video he got casted for. We met and instantly hit it off and things just… happened .”

“So you really liked him?”

“I did.” Hoseok confesses. “But right when things were getting serious, he got offered a position at a dance studio here in Cali. They scouted him from that music video. When they found out he was bilingual that just made them want him more. You know how K-pop is getting bigger and bigger these days… I guess they thought it would be more authentic to have someone Korean teaching those kinds of classes.”

“It makes sense.” Yoongi acknowledges.

Hoseok swirls his straw around his glass. “I think that’s what makes it hurt the most. Because I gave him the out; long distance isn’t for everybody. But he swore that he wanted to try. That he thought I was special and he didn’t want to let me go.”

“You are special.” Yoongi says earnestly. “I might not know the guy, but he’d have to be a fool to let go of you.”

Hoseok pauses, considering the pilot. “You really mean that…”

“I do.” Yoongi nods. “You have… an aura about you. It’s like you just shine .” He bites his lip. “I’m sorry that your ex took advantage of your kindness. It’s shitty when the people you trust the most end up being the ones that betray you.”

Hoseok lifts a brow. “You got a similar story?”

Yoongi sighs, taking a long gulp of his whiskey. “There’s definitely a reason why I’ve been focused on jet-setting around the world. But this isn’t about me; it’s about you. So tell me what happened with this trip.”

“Ah. My big romantic gesture. ” Hoseok shakes his head. “I’m a sucker for romance; I mean all the things that people find cheesy… like breakfast in bed, taking bubble baths together, and my lover calling me baby .” He brightens. “I like being spoiled a bit… feeling cherished. Obviously distance throws a wrench in those plans. Every time we talked over the past month, all he could say was how badly he wished we could spend the holidays together. I thought he was trying to send me some sort of sign.”

“That he wanted you to come?”

“Yeah. Since he just started his job, I knew he couldn’t afford to take time off to visit me in Seoul, and transpacific flights aren’t exactly cheap. So I thought I’d surprise him… fly six thousand miles across the ocean to make something magical happen. Show up right before the New Year so that when the countdown got down to zero and the ball dropped we’d be together, kissing underneath the stars. And instead…” Hoseok groans, still unable to fathom it.

“I sweet-talked his landlord. Showed her pictures of us and told her I was his boyfriend so she’d let me inside. I literally prepared roses and champagne and everything . I had this whole plan that he’d come home from the studio and find me waiting for him like it was some climatic love scene in a drama. I even bought new designer lingerie! Do you have any idea how expensive that stuff is?”

Yoongi blushes. “Can’t say that I do.”

“Well take my word for it; I was going to totally sweep him off of his feet. And instead when I walked into his apartment, I found him in bed with his girlfriend. Who apparently has been involved with him since he was a trainee!”

“Ouch.” Yoongi grimaces. “That’s definitely gotta hurt.”

“Oh, I went off . Yelled and screamed… might have even dramatically throw a bouquet of red roses right at his stupid face.”

Yoongi chuckles. “Did it feel good?”

“It definitely did. But long story short, we’re over. I’m removing myself from the situation entirely. I don’t need to have any heart to hearts with Sangwoo for closure… no explanation could erase the lies that he told me. He doesn’t get to have my sympathy or my understanding. He tried to chase after me as I got into a taxi and he’s called like a hundred times, so I’ve blocked his number. It’s so over.”

“Good for you.” Yoongi compliments him. “It’s not so easy to walk away from a toxic relationship, even when you’ve been wronged. You’re a lot stronger than you give yourself credit for.”

“Oh, don’t flatter me so soon.” Hoseok chuckles. “I spent the entire cab ride to LAX in tears. We weren’t quite in love, but I did think that one day we’d get there.” He admits. “I just… hate the feeling of knowing that I wasted my time and emotions on someone who didn’t deserve it, you know?”

“I do.” The pilot nods. “And I know it sounds cliché as hell, but there is a silver lining to this. Your ex-boyfriend was a cheating asshole, but at least now you know. You get to move on… find someone new. Find someone that will treat you like the prince you are.”

“A prince?” Hoseok beams at him, and Yoongi shrugs.

“You’re the one who brought up fairy tales, not me.” He defends himself with a shy smile.

“Well I’d like to hope that the next guy I meet will appreciate my grand gestures and romantic tendencies. And it would be great if he knew how to keep his dick in his pants whenever I’m not around.”

Yoongi laughs. “All very reasonable requests.”

“It’s a shame though.” Hoseok tsks. “I haven’t had a New Year’s kiss for a few years now. I was either single or on tour in a foreign country holed up in a hotel room.” He shrugs his shoulders. “I guess I just wanted this year to be different. Magical. ”

“Perhaps it will be.” Yoongi looks at him, his eyes sparkling. “The night isn’t quite over yet.”

Hoseok leans closer, lowering his voice. “Are you propositioning, Min Yoongi?”

“Maybe.” Yoongi says coyly. “Being a pilot comes with certain perks. I don’t just get fancy tables at airport restaurants.”

“Oh yeah?” Hoseok perches his chin on his fists cutely. “Sell me on your offer, captain .”

“I’m just saying. I’ve got lots of frequent flyer miles… voucher coupons for drinks and meals in airports all over the world.”

“Oh, so you aren’t paying for my dinner… Korean Air is.” Hoseok laughs, amused by the older man.

“I also get free hotel room stays.” Yoongi stares at him teasingly. “Which is really convenient when a flight gets delayed overnight for inclement weather.”

“Sold.” Hoseok says with the utmost seriousness, making his companion crack up. “Sleeping on the floor with my carry-on as a pillow or sharing a bed with a sexy pilot…” He lifts up his hands, pretending to be a balancing scale. “I think the right choice is pretty clear.”

“I don’t know about sexy…” Yoongi’s eyes dart away sheepishly.

“Oh, the sexy part isn’t up for debate. The pilot uniform totally does it for me. Why roleplay when you can have the real thing? Who knows… tomorrow I might even join the mile high club with a captain . It’s a hell of a way to cross something off the bucket list.”

Yoongi snorts, nearly spitting out his whiskey. “How do you do that?”

“Do what?”

“Flirt without combusting into flames on the spot! You’re so gorgeous that it’s hard for me to even look you in the eyes. I nearly passed out earlier just trying to invite you to have dinner with me, and here you are… calling me sexy of all things without skipping a beat.”

“It’s easy to tell the truth.” Hoseok says simply. “It isn’t difficult to flirt with you because I’m attracted to you. I can either wallow in my misery or I can indulge in a distraction. And trust me, this beats being stuck in the airport on my own.” He licks his lips. “I’m glad you invited me to join you, Min Yoongi. You’ve been the most pleasant surprise.”

“But seriously.” Yoongi looks at him genuinely. “I know we’re strangers, but you’ve been through a hell of a lot. Trust me, if I could get you on that plane and fly you home right now, I would. The least I could do is offer you a nice place to rest your head for the night.” He shrugs his shoulders. “No pressure… no games. I… I like you. Which is sort of ridiculous because I hardly even know you, but I do . I look at you and I… I feel something. And it’s been a really, really long time since I’ve been able to say that.”

“Yoongi…” Hoseok blinks in surprise, touched by his words. “Maybe this makes me stupid considering my recent track record with men, but… I think I actually believe you.”

Yoongi looks at him softly. “I know your head must be a mess. You were betrayed by a man you were falling for. And that hurts… it leaves scars. I know, because I still have a few of my own.” He purses his lips together. “It does get better. But it doesn’t ever really go away. When someone you opened up your heart to breaks your trust, it just… it makes the world a little bit dimmer.”

“It does.” Hoseok agrees quietly.

“But that doesn’t have to be the end of your story. Or mine for that matter. So whatever you want to do is fine with me. If you need time, then I’m willing to be patient. We could exchange numbers… I’m based in Seoul too. Granted I am flying around up in the clouds half of the time, but you would be the loveliest person to come home to.”

“That… was actually kind of smooth.” Hoseok grins. “But I’m not exactly interested in playing it safe.”

“No?”

“I’m ready for lift off. ” Hoseok says cheesily, making the pilot laugh. “And I know you’re right; I’m not going to immediately get over what happened with my ex. But I’m also not going to miss out on any new opportunities because of him either.”

He scoots a bit closer in his chair. “I like you too, Yoongi. And I have a feeling that I’ll like you even more the better I get to know you. So if you’re offering me the chance to have some real alone time with you, then I’m saying yes. Just hook me up with access to the priority lane for the security check and first class boarding privileges for our flight tomorrow, and we’ll be good.”

Yoongi laughs, nodding. “That can definitely be arranged.”

“You don’t have to give me special perks… I was joking!”

“But I wasn’t.” Yoongi says sauvely, his gummy smile prominent.

Their server arrives, setting down their meals. Hoseok looks at Yoongi, his eyes twinkling with promise. “What do you say we get this to go?”

“I think that’s the best idea I’ve heard all night.” Yoongi hurries to call the server back over, quickly sorting it out. He pays for the meal — with actual money instead of vouchers, just to be cheeky — before he leads the way out of the restaurant, carrying both of their meals in a gesture that makes the younger man giggle. He’s not used to playing the role of hyung, but for Hoseok he’ll definitely make an exception.

Hoseok surprises him when he boldly grabs his hand, lacing their fingers together as they make their way out of the busy airport. They make a pit stop at the duty free store, picking up a box of  chocolates and wine, before they take a shuttle to a nearby hotel.

Once they get inside the suite and shake off the snow from their coats, Yoongi takes care of putting their luggage away.

Hoseok asks to take a picture of the pilot’s passport, wanting to send it to his best friend just in case Yoongi turns out to be a murderous sociopath in disguise, and Yoongi obliges him with a smile. He actually compliments Hoseok for playing it on the safer side, which makes the younger boy feel happy.

Yoongi excuses himself to change out of his uniform, reappearing in a pair of tight black leggings and a cozy looking fuzzy yellow sweater that practically swallows him whole, and Hoseok actually coos on the spot.

“How did you get even cuter, hyung? This is illegal. I need to text Jimin about this too. Smile!” He lifts up his phone and Yoongi plays along, posing with a V sign as Hoseok snaps the picture. “Fuck, you really are adorable.” Hoseok admires it for a few seconds before sending it off to his dongsaeng with an obnoxious amount of hearts and emojis.

“So now I’m hyung, huh?” Yoongi grins, setting up their takeout boxes while Hoseok takes care of opening the wine.

“We’ll if we’re sharing a bed we’re officially not strangers anymore.” Hoseok pours out the sweet moscato, offering Yoongi a glass. “Plus, you blush when I call you hyung, and I’m very much a fan of that.”

“Oh, I think I’m just blushing because of you.” Yoongi says earnestly, ducking his head down and poking at his food. “But I’m really glad you’re here.”

“I’m glad I’m here too.” Hoseok takes a seat on the bed next to him, lifting up his glass. “Here’s to new beginnings… to making the most out of a bad situation. To leaving shitty boys who hurt us in the past where they belong.”

“Here, here.” Yoongi smiles, clinking their glasses together. “And here’s to the best layover I’ll ever have.”

“Damn right; it will be a layover you’ll never forget.” Hoseok smirks, taking a long sip of his wine before setting it aside. He looks into Yoongi’s sharp, catlike eyes, his heart swirling with the possibilities.

“So what will it be, hyung?” He reaches out, gently placing his hand on Yoongi’s knee. “Are you preparing for take off with me? Or am I in for some more delays?”

Yoongi moves his food out of the way, boldly reaching out to cup Hoseok’s cheek. “I’m more than willing to fly with you, Jung Hoseok.”

“Cheesy… but romantic.” Hoseok whispers against his lips as they lean in closer. “Very rom com -esque.”

“Yeah.” Yoongi smirks, his gaze flickering up to Hoseok’s deep brown eyes. “Just the way you like it.” He brushes Hoseok’s curls back, gently wrapping his hand behind his neck. “Can I kiss you?”

Hoseok feels his heart flutter despite himself, almost like he’s in the movies and they’re about to have the moment. It’s chivalrous and gentlemanly and it sets Hoseok’s heart on fire. “Yes. Please .”

Yoongi doesn’t hesitate, pulling him into a desperate kiss. It’s like fireworks, explosions going off behind his eyelids as he tastes Hoseok’s sweetness. Their lips move together instinctually, and Hoseok ends up pulling the pilot into his lap as he deepens the kiss.

They both get lost in the embrace, hands roaming and chests pounding, each of them wearing matching giddy smiles in the brief moments they pull apart for air before they dive right back in.

When the kiss finally breaks Hoseok can’t help but laugh, a sense of euphoria taking over him. “Being with you is like... fireworks .”

“Literally.” The pilot’s eyes flicker over to the window. “Take a look.”

The younger man gasps as he watches the pretty explosions in the night sky. “Does that mean…?”

Yoongi glances at the clock, confirming it. “Happy New Year, Jung Hoseok.” He grins, running his fingers through Hoseok’s soft hair.

“Happy New Year, Min Yoongi.” Hoseok beams. “It looks like I finally got the special kiss I’ve been longing for.”

Hoseok pushes Yoongi down on the bed, spreading him out on his back, the food completely forgotten in the wake of sharing something much more sweet. “And if my first New Year’s resolution is to score a date with a dashing pilot?”

“Then it looks like you’re getting lucky this year… in more ways than one.” Yoongi says bashfully, his cheeks turning pink.

“Aye aye, captain.” Hoseok dimples, his eyes crinkling cutely. “I officially give you permission to take off… your clothes .”

Yoongi laughs, shaking his head. “Will the pilot puns ever stop?”

“Not a chance. You’re just too cute when you smile and the urge to flirt with you is not something I am capable of suppressing.”

Yoongi stares up at him in wonder, the fireworks going off outside of their hotel room painting Hoseok’s face in beautiful shades of red, blue, and gold. “You’re about to turn my entire world upside down, aren’t you?” He asks him somewhat in a daze, still not quite sure how someone like him could ever be this lucky.

“I am.” Hoseok admits it plainly, his eyes sparkling. “But I promise you’ll thank me for it. I’m an amazing boyfriend… and an even better lover.” He winks, sending shivers down Yoongi’s spine. “So do you want to talk some more or should we start this year off with a bang ?”

Yoongi doesn’t bother fighting the inevitable, because Hoseok is beautiful and for the first time in a long time, he feels tendrils of desire running hot through his body. He wants to feel good… he wants to indulge , and there couldn’t be a better partner in the world than the gorgeous man on top of him.

If tonight is any indication, the next time he touches down in Seoul, there might just be a pretty boy waiting for him when he disembarks.

The cold front shows no signs of slowing down, but inside of their room everything is hot. Yoongi feels all of his worries melting away with each and every kiss that’s gifted to him.

It’s a brand new year full of endless possibilities, and deep down in his heart Yoongi knows that the beautiful boy holding him in his arms is going to change his life for the better.

Yoongi’s head is up in the clouds when it comes to Jung Hoseok, but he knows he won’t be coming down for a landing anytime soon.

The sweetest gifts in life are the ones that you never see coming, and now that Hoseok is here, Yoongi knows this will be his best year yet. His New Year’s resolution is to make the most of it, and to give Jung Hoseok the whirlwind, fairy tale romance that he so desperately longs for.

The snow continues to fall outside of their window, and both of their resolutions begin to come true.

It truly is a happy new year.
