Chapter Text
Ochako Uraraka had imagined her first kiss several times in the last year and a half, she had always dreamed of a storybook high school romance. Meeting “The One” was always this magical moment in her head she was always hoping for one of those moments that people tell stories about like the classic trope of dropping a pile of books in the middle of a crowded corridor and someone bends down to help her but they end up butting heads.
She thought she might have had the moment during her entrance exams as a really cute green haired boy was willing to sacrifice himself for her, she thought all of her dreams were starting to come true when she saw him in her class. They bonded so quickly and it turns out she did kinda love him and he kinda loved her, it just wasn't that kind of love she wanted it to be. They were inseparable for a long time and she had built up all these ideas in her head about what their life was going to be like together. It took her a long time to realise that it wasn't fair to him, it took a villain attack of all things for her to realise it, the league of villain’s Himiko Toga and her obsession with Ochako’s own obsession allowed her to see clearly that the Deku in her head and the Deku in the real world were two different people.
It was the hardest conversation of her life sitting down with Deku and finally talking about what they actually meant to each other, the rest of the class had been teasing the both of them for weeks and it was obvious that they were both waiting for each other to make the first move. The conversation had lasted for the better part of five hours many tears were shed both of joy and sorrow by both herself and Deku, they learned a lot about each other and themselves, emotionally drained after hours of talks, confessions and revelations. Deku opening up about his life before U.A. and what it was like to be Quirk-less while Ochako talked about her struggles at home watching her parents struggle to put food on the table and keep the lights on. After those long hours hold up in Deku’s dorm room she emerged no longer friends with the really cute green haired boy that saved her life in the entrance exam but now his sister, Deku had offered to brave the class with her knowing that a good chunk of them were waiting with baited breath downstairs for them to emerge most if not all hoping that the class’s first official couple would be made official. She didn't bother to wipe the tear tracks of her face because the moment she saw them all she would start crying again, she wouldn't know why she just knew that she would and she did. Opening the door to the common room all heads turned towards her all shining with the same unspoken question. All she could do was smile and shake her head as a new set of tears trickled down her face. Nobody said anything, nobody had too, everyone knew those two had been through so much together that this wouldn't be the end of their friendship, that this night wasn't going to divide the class it only took a few seconds for a pair of arms to wrap around her and hold her tightly in comfort. She wasn't upset, she knew that she looked it however and allowed her classmates to offer those actions and words of comfort. It took her a long time to explain that they were on the best of terms and it fine just exhausting but needed, using dehydration and exhaustion as an excuse to slip away into the kitchen to fill up her water bottle and grab a light snack before finally slipping away back upstairs to her bed.
----
It was after that night that she stopped thinking about meeting “The One” at least for a little while. She threw herself head-first into her schoolwork both physically and academically now that she was no longer in her own head about her non-existent love life. Her grades were improving and her hero work was getting better and better. Life was good for Ochako Uraraka she had friends, her family’s construction business had picked up a 2 year long contract for building a new set of condos which meant that some of the biggest stress factors in her life were gone. Its amazing how much better she slept when she knew that she didn't have to worry about how she was going to feed herself and where she would sleep when the school year ended, it was still going to be tight but it was better then it had been looking.
For the first time since she was old enough to truly understand money she felt at peace.
Naturally things were going to get flipped upside down.
----
It started off as a bad day.
She was back in the clearing at the camp as a deranged blonde straddled her, clutching a steel knife that reflects the burning forest as it plunged towards her chest. Ochako finds her self sitting bolt upright in her bed absolutely drenched in sweat just barely catching the scream building in her throat before it could escape. She was no stranger to nightmares, none of the class were, its something they all had to learn to live with sadly. Turning to look at her clock realising it was still over an hour before her alarm was set to go off but also knowing there was no way she was going to be able to get to back to sleep she decided she might as well get up and face the day head on.
The mornings classes went mostly fine. Who ever decided that putting Hero Law 101 at 8:00am on a Friday morning should be tried for crimes against humanity, doubly so for teachers that think its a smart idea for a pop quiz in said 8am class. She would need to borrow Deku’s notes about the class later, its amazing what having one less hour of sleep can do to your concentration levels.
Lunch was a mess, turns out that the U.A. head cook Lunch Rush was needed at an avalanche further north up in the country, which is fine and understandable but it doesn't change the fact that its noticeable when he isn't there, they tend to run out of the good option a lot quicker like mochi.
At least it was a practical Heroics lesson that afternoon, hopefully she would be able to take her anger and frustrations of the day out on a building or explosive blonde either was fine with her. Of course she ends up late to class through no fault of her own but its enough that makes Aizawa-sensei pull her aside and check-in to make sure everything is okay with her before he sends her off to the changing room.
Arriving late to the dressing rooms she finds her classmates all nearly done and ready to head out into Gym Delta for quirk sparring excited to find out that she does indeed have an excuse to go all out today and put her marital arts training to good use she starts stripping off quickly she found herself tangled in her shirt. She had noticed it had been a bit tighter lately which was due to either the fact that she was comfortably eating 3 meals a day or the muscle she had been gaining on her new workout routine thanks to Gunhead probably a combination of both she admitted to herself. Struggling to get out of her shirt but also not draw attention to the fact that she was in the middle of said struggle was a delicate balance till she heard the locker room door open and the rest of the girls leave with a short “catch you out there Ochako”, unable to see anything due her shirt now being half way up her face and her arms lightly pinned to the sides of her head but assuming she was now alone she struggled in earnest to get this bloody shirt off. A pair of hands reach out and grab her arms so she doesn't trip over the bench behind her “Who’s there?” she asks aloud having thought the rest of the girls had already left. Before she can ask again she feels whoever it is get closer and a soft pair of lips are pressed against her own, softly and full of hesitation. Shocked and frozen Ochako doesn't move till the lips are gone too soon and she hears the door of the changing room open once again.
Ochako Uraraka had imagined her first kiss several times in the last year and a half. She never expected to happen in the changing rooms with her shirt half stuck over her head unable to see the person who kissed her, her only clue to go on was the slight flavour of raspberry lemonade lip-gloss.
