Something Close To Perfect

Summary:

Here, on this rooftop, with the unlikely love of his life, Natsuo was happy. The sun set fully, encasing them in darkness, but neither made a move to leave. They let the sounds of the city below them surround them, cars honking is the distance, and the rustle of wind in the trees.

Work Text:

Toga greeted him the second he opened the door. The blonde was brandishing a butcher knife, and talking animatedly about the events of the day.

Toga froze mid-sentence, standing on her tippy toes. Her face slowly fell and she pointed her knife at Natsuo. “Right- I almost forgot, Shiggy is in a bad mood, I don’t know if you want to deal with that.” Her voice turned cheery again as she said, “If you don’t, you should run while you still can.”

Natsuo smiled, amused. Of course, he was used to his boyfriend’s strange antics. “Where is he?”

Toga bounced lightly as she twirled her knife. “He locked himself in his room after we got back.”

Natsuo nodded and started down the hall that led to Tomura’s room. He heard Toga call out to him as he left, “Good luck!”

When he found Tomura’s room, he knocked gently on the door, but there wasn’t a response. He leaned his head on the door.

“Babe? Toga told me you had a bad day. Do you-” He was cut off by the door opened and a grumpy looking Tomura stood a few inches away.  Natsuo decided he looked rather like a disturbed cat, with messy hair, a scowl, and an oversized hoodie that Natsuo recognized as his own.

Tomura reached out carefully and tugged at the sleeve of Natsuo’s hoodie. His ring and little finger were covered by the artist gloves Natsuo had gotten him a few weeks after they started dating. He tried pulling his boyfriend into the room, but Natsuo stopped him.

He smiled brightly and took Tomura by the wrist. “I have a better idea, come here.” He pulled Tomura out of the dark room and into the hallway. He led his boyfriend down the hall and up some stairs that led to a heavy metal door.

Natsuo had let go of the other’s wrist to push open the door, revealing the darkened sky. Stars glittered down at the pair in a welcoming way. The sun had sunk low below the horizon, but part of the sky still lit up in oranges and red, casting the rest of the sky into a dark purple. A cool breeze made itself known, tugging at their hair.

Natsuo turned back around to Tomura with a bright grin. Tomura’s face flushed slightly pink at his boyfriend’s excitement. He acted every bit like a shy cat. Natsuo led him out into the center of the rooftop, and pulled him close.

“What are you doing?” Tomura finally asked, his expression remained unimpressed, but his eyes were lit up with something close to curiosity.

Natsuo wrapped his arms around Tomura’s waist. His grin stretched ear-to-ear, and his eyes softened. “Making you feel better.” He started swaying slowly, dragging Tomura along with.

Tomura’s only response was an eye roll, but he subconsciously leaned into Natsuo.

“Is it working?”

Tomura rested his head on Natsuo’s collarbone, still not saying anything as he nodded. The nod was barely noticeable. His arms found their way warped around Natsuo’s waist as they swayed.

A warm, fuzzy feeling spread through Natsuo’s chest as he looked down fondly at Tomura. He buried his face in his boyfriend’s messy, light blue hair.

Here, on this rooftop, with the unlikely love of his life, Natsuo was happy. The sun set fully, encasing them in darkness, but neither made a move to leave. They let the sounds of the city below them surround them, cars honking is the distance, and the rustle of wind in the trees.

Natsuo pulled away and lifted one of Tomura’s arms to spin him. Tomura huffed and glared at Natsuo, though he knew that there was no real threat there. “You’re a dork.”

Natsuo laughed as he pulled Tomura close again. “You love me.”

“Maybe.”

“Just a little?” Natsuo’s expression was as if he was really bargaining. Neither of them had to say it to know the other loved them. That’s just the way it was with them.

Something Natsuo would call close to perfect.
