Lan Xichen was jealous.
Which was so absurd that for a second and some his brain stopped function and all he could do was staring dumbly at Mr.Lei laughing with his fiancé for many times this night. His fiancé only smirked back, but that was already a lot considered they only met earlier tonight. And oh, Lan Xichen’s eyes widen, did Mr.Lei just touched his fiancé’s hand?? Why his fiancé didn’t move or glare at the other man?? The first time Lan Xichen tried to do the same thing the man literally run away!!
His palm became sweaty and he had to take a deep breath to calm the uneasy and ugly feeling inside his stomach. One should not be jealous – GusuLan rule number 78. One should not distrust their partner without reasons – GusuLan rule number 106. One should not…
“You know,” A cheerful voice right beside his ear made Lan Xichen nearly jumped out of his skin. “If you are curious about what they are talking, just go over there.”
He turned to his right side with heart pounding so fast like he was running miles per minute and met two sparkling full of mischief grey eyes. Wei Wuxian grinned: “Or you can stay here and look absolutely miserable which is never suit you Xichen-ge.”
“I’m fi…” His brother-in-law raised his eyebrows and Lan Xichen sighed. Lie is forbidden was GusuLan rule number 2 and he nearly broke it. “I just…It’s wrong.”
“What’s wrong?” Wei Wuxian looked at him from the rim of his favorite wine glass.
“He’s having a good time,” Lan Xichen admitted, looking back at his fiancé and Mr.Lei, and looked like there were a few more people joining in their group. “And people finally realize his talent, his success, his charming.” Lan Xichen looked down at his hands. “I have no right to feel like this.”
“Xichen-ge, listen,” Wei Wuxian squeezed his arm for his attention. There was a knowing smile on the younger man’s face when Lan Xichen finally raised his head to look at him. “You have no idea how many bullshit I had to deal with when you two started dating. A-Cheng would come home like an absolutely nonsense mess crying that you were too perfect and he was selfish for afraid that you will dump him or something,” Lan Xichen was sure that his fiancé did tell the same tale about his brother-in-law when Wangji and A-Xian started dating, but that was story for another day. “And you should know that I nearly went bankrupt for buying him his favorite fresh lotus seeds and sweet melon cakes before he believed me that you never looked at other man or woman the same way you looked at him, as if what you wanted all the time was kissing him, touching him, doing nasty things with him…”
“Yes I understand thank you very much for your insight A-Xian,” Lan Xichen coughed, definitely broke GusuLan rule number 16 - One should not interrupt other people's words, and his face was reddened in lightning speed. Where was Wangji? How could his brother left his husband alone like this? Where was his dear younger brother when he needed him the most??
Wei Wuxian crackled. “The thing is, Xichen-ge, your feeling is normal. Just talk to him. Maybe if you play your card right you might get special reward latter tonight.” The younger man winked at him and the heat on Lan Xichen’s face increased tenfold. “Now go over there and claim what is your. I have to go to take mine.”
If he wasn’t a Lan he would immediately buried his face into his palm and groaned. Wei Wuxian only laughed at whatever Lan Xichen was showing on his face and simply pat his shoulder before he disappeared to the other side of the party. Looked like Lan Xichen had no choice then. He shook his head to clear his mind a little, adjusted his suit, and walked over where his fiancé was standing.
There more he came closer, the more he realized how beautiful his fiancé was, not only tonight, but like in every moments. Not like he wasn’t worship with passionate every inches of his fiancé in that dazzling purple suit before they went to the party together but the more he looked at him, the more he felt like he was so lucky to married to such a beautiful man. Even if Lan Xichen couldn’t see his eyes from this angle, he knew from the bottom of his heart that they were shining with the prettiest shades of grey and blue, like the color of autumn sky reflecting on a river. His fiancé held himself upright, back straight, hair in neat braids, eyes focused. His body was all sharp and strong and confident but Lan Xichen also knew how soft he could be under gentle and caring hands.
“That was an interesting approach Ms.Fang. I would like to invite you to our restaurant next week and I will make sure your stay will be most enjoyable,” His fiancé replied with his deep, warm voice. “Also…”
For a blessed second grey eyes looked up and met his. Jiang Wanyin’s lips suddenly opened into a smile so bright that never failed to make Lan Xichen’s heart skipped a beat everytime.
“Xichen,” His name was called with a little breathless and Lan Xichen couldn’t help but walked over a bit quicker so he could kiss his name right on his fiancé’s lips, other people around them be damn.
“Wanyin,” Lan Xichen let himself smile on the kiss, spent one more precious second to look at those eyes he loved so much before put his hand on Jiang Wanyin’s lower back and turned around to face their audience. If he felt giggling like a teenager boy successfully broke a rule without getting catch at Mr.Lei and everyone's shock face Lan Xichen would kept it as a secret for himself.
And if Lan Xichen heard a hitch of breath and saw an adorable blush on Jiang Wanyin's back neck when he pulled his soon-to-be husband closer to him he would kept it as a secret to tease the younger man latter.
"It's a pleasure to meet you," Lan Xichen smiled. "I'm Lan Xichen, Mr.Jiang's fiancé."
There was a loud gasp and even more shock faces. Did people really that surprise when they knew they were together.
"Mr.Lan!"
"We didn't hear anything about the engagement!"
"When did you two start dating?"
"I didn't know you are already engaged Mr.Jiang..." Mr.Lei's face twisted. Lan Xichen smiled wider.
"I can't believe it myself," Lan Xichen said earnestly, his thumb rubbing Wanyin's waist and his smile was impossibly big when he spoke the next words. "I'm so lucky to have this wonderful man as my husband."
"Xichen!" Came the hiss from the man next to him. Lan Xichen was still smilling, face full of fake innocent when he tilled his head to peck a kiss on Wanyin's cheek.
"Yes dear," he murmured into a red ear, loud enough to make sure everyone else heard it, and was rewarded by a delight sharp breath intake. "You are the best thing that I ever have."
"You!" Jiang Wanyin gasped, and Lan Xichen had to use all of his willpower to not burst out laughing right there when his lover hastily spouted out some excuses and pulled him away while some people giggled and cheered on the background. They power walked out of the room (because Lan did not run on the hallway) and Jiang Wanyin pulled him into the first empty corner he found.
"What the hell was that??" Jiang Wanyin hissed. Even under the dim light Lan Xichen could see how red his face was.
"I only said the truth," Lan Xichen smiled when the imagine of his lover right now reminded him of their hissing kitten. "You don't like it?"
"Of fucking course I do!" His lover yelled, and then his face was even redder when he realized what he just said. "It was...it was..." The younger man stammered, and then he became angrier. "That was so shameless! You kissed me on the lips in front of everyone!!"
Ah. Classic Jiang Wanyin.
"Wanyin," Lan Xichen gently pulled him closer. Jiang Wanyin glared at him but didn't protest when Lan Xichen embraced him. "If you feel uncomfortable, I will never do it again. But remember this," Lan Xichen cupped his face. "I want everyone to know how much I love you, that you are important to me, and that you truly are one of the most amazing person I ever met." He tilled Wanyin's chin up until their eyes met and their forehead touched. He murmured. "Will you please allow me to show to the world that this beautiful man is mine, just as I am your, my heart?"
The next moment Lan Xichen had an armful of fiancé when Jiang Wanyin surged up and kissed him, chaste but firm, like a whispering promise for more to come at the end of this night.
When they parted the younger man buried his face on Lan Xichen's neck. His breath hot and his voice small when he murmured into Lan Xichen's shirt collar.
"I didn't say I hate it, idiot," His lover smashed his chest lightly. "Just warn me the next time you want to be so shameless or say something sappy in public, or in private too. I can't...I can't handle it."
Lan Xichen giggled. "Yes my heart," He hugged his lover tighter. "I promise."
"And you still have to tell me why you suddenly behaved like that."
"You will laugh."
Jiang Wanyin snorted. "Serve you right."
Oh. How silly he was. Lan Xichen laughed. He was indeed so lucky to have this man. And he would make sure to make up for him tonight and everyday after that.
.
When they came back to the party, if Jiang Wanyin noticed Lan Xichen didn't release his hand the whole time and the subtle smug on Lan Xichen's face at Mr.Lei and anyone who had tried to flirt with him that evening, he only raised his eyebrows at his fiancé's innocent smile and didn't say anything.
