Chapter Text
History is retained through reading.
The life and history of the Multiverse is contained in a book entitled “The Chronicles of Life.” For each dimension, there is a key, otherwise known as a Bookmark. To reveal the path of a timeline, you must insert the bookmark into the Chronicles.
Each story is kept safe by the Bookkeeper, born every 900 years in Dimension Zero. The current Master, Alice has been training her protégé, Peter since her life is nearing its end.
All is well.
Until Peter rebels.
He renames himself, Raze, and tries to destroy the Chronicles of Life.
Raze only sees the cruel aspects of life.
So he puts it upon himself to destroy it.
Raze believes that life is unjust, and that the multiverse would be better off dead than to suffer through what existence gives it. So he attacks. But Alice knows there’s more to that claim.
Raze puts together an army composed of brainwashed subjects from around the multiverse, and creates three Generals to follow his every command. Raze and the the army of brainwashed soldiers charged Alice’s home where the book is held, and managed to strike her down.
“Peter! This isn’t right! Life is beautiful. You can’t just give up because it gets bad!” The woman yelled as her protegé neared the book and the Key’s Holder.
"Life is only cruel and unjust." Raze replied to Alice. “These dimensions would be better off gone than they would be living through this torture.” He said, reaching out to open the Key’s Container.
Alice panicked. He couldn’t destroy the Keys. That would mean the end for the Multiverse.
Using her dwindling strength and magic, Alice brought her staff towards her. She used it to push herself up and steady her swaying form. “Peter. Please reconsider. You don’t have to destroy everything to make it better. We are strong, the multiverse is strong. They can get through it.” The long-haired blonde staggered over to her protegé.
“You know nothing. You are blinded by hope. There is no saving this world. It is best to destroy—” Raze was cut off by Alice tackling him and holding him down the best she could.
The Bookkeeper shot out a beam of light towards the Keys’ container, named the Bookmark Box. “Go! You must hide! Stay safe, stay together, and I will come for you!” She yelled.
Just as the Keys teleported away, Alice was pushed aside by Peter. “Foolish Woman! You know nothing but lies! I will find the keys, and I will destroy them!” He said as he sprang upward.
Alice backed up until she hit the wall, knowing what Peter was going to do. She brought her right hand behind her back and conjured up a small portal.
The Bookkeeper’s Protegé approached his master and raised his weapon of choice, an ancient blade crafted by a Bookkeeper of the past. “You will see the bliss that is nothingness. I will free you.” He yelled as he brought the sword down.
But just before the blade pierced Alice’s flesh…
She disappeared.
“What?” Peter whispered. He looked closely at the floor where his Master one laid. Then he noticed the slightly distorted floor.
“She escaped through a portal! How dare she!” The protegé growled. Just as he was about the jump in, the portal closed.
Peter punched the floor where the portal once was, “Oh you think you’ve gotten away, Alice. But I will find you. I will find the keys, and I will destroy you.” He said, a determined gleam in his eye.
—
“Miss? Are you okay?”
Alice slowly opened her eyes. She sat up slowly, rubbing her eyes to wake herself up. She looked around, noticing a man and woman holding hands, presumably a couple.
“Oh! Thank goodness! I was getting worried. It’s not everyday you find a random woman in the forest.” The man chuckled, rubbing the back of his neck.
“Nozomu, maybe we should call an ambulance. She looks hurt.” The woman crouched down to get a better look at Alice.
“Ambulance? No, no. I-I’m fine” the blonde sat up slowly.
“She’s fine, Hanayo. We should just get her out of the woods. Then she can find her way home. Does that sound good, Miss?” The man, Nozomu asked.
Alice took a moment to think through the man’s proposal. She nodded. “That sounds good. But, uh…Where are we? I got a little lost.” She asked, putting on a confused persona.
“We’re on a hiking trail near Hanaheiya. The main town isn’t far from the bottom of the trail.” The woman, Hanayo said as she helped Alice stand up.
The couple steadied the blonde so she could stand on her own. “The bottom of the trail isn’t too far down. We’ll take you down there.” Nozomu pointed towards the bottom of the hill.
The Bookkeeper smiled and nodded. “That sounds great. Thank you very much.”
The couple both nodded. “No problem!” Hanayo said cheerily.
Alice smiled. She could feel the Keys’ presence near. Now all she needed to do was find them.
‘Wait.’ Alice thought as she followed the nice couple. ‘I was too easily overpowered by Peter and their army. I need help…and I know just who to call upon. I’m going to need them.’
‘I’m going to need the Pretty Cure!’
