Chapter Text
Myths were fickle things.
Like with all stories, they were bound to change, or to be misrepresented. One person would witness an event and pass their gossip to the next person, and that person would pass it to the next, telling the story a little different each time because no one truly knew the story like it’s original teller. And even then, if the original teller wasn’t involved in the story, was only a witness, then was their own perception correct?
Legends about gods were even less likely to be accurate. Just like a god would never fully understand the plight of a mortal, humans would never fully understand the plight of an immortal, of not only the massive duties they were to attend to, but the emotions and thoughts they had as well. So it was easy to see where a story shared amongst humans about gods would be misconstrued and hold bias.
Legend said Hades kidnapped Persephone and made him his husband. Those legends weren’t necessarily wrong. But they were inadequate. The old paintings didn’t capture the spring god’s laughter, and old texts didn’t describe how his fingers snaked so lovingly into the hair at the base of Hades’ neck.
Their story was theirs, and theirs only to fully understand.
