It was early in the morning when Speedwagon found himself crossing the luscious green grasses belonging to the hill leading up to the Joestar mansion. The newly risen sun was casting its golden rays brightly over the vast horizon, and a pleasant nature ambience filled the air.
Speedwagon let a small smile cross his face as he anticipated the upcoming events. If everything turned out the way you and he hoped, a certain emotion would soon fill the air as well.
He continued excitedly making his way towards the home, and it wasn’t until he had nearly reached the top of the hill when he managed to spot a familiar blonde-haired and ominous individual lingering by the front door. “Oi, excuse me!” Speedwagon cried suddenly, much to the boy’s dismay.
Upon hearing the voice belonging to the man who had previously been a street thug, the boy let out a low growl, but remained turned with hopes that Speedwagon would think he hadn’t heard him.
“You’re Jonathan’s brother, Dio, are you not?” Speedwagon questioned, shielding his eyes a bit so that the sun’s rays wouldn’t obstruct his view.
“Don’t call me that,” the blonde demanded, before heading away from the porch and leaving the premises as if the conversation had never taken place.
Speedwagon watched after him, dumbfounded… then again, perhaps he shouldn’t have been so surprised. That boy had always given off troublesome vibes. He hadn’t even informed Speedwagon which of the two terms he wasn’t supposed to use when referring to him… ‘Dio’ or ‘Jonathan’s brother’! “Hm. That was strange.”
“Speedwagon!” Another voice called, catching his attention. He turned to see the person whom he sought after in the first place: Jonathan Joestar, his blue-haired and bright-eyed friend with a heart the kindest he had ever seen. His hand was stroking the head of a tall dog, its coat patterned with black spots. It was Danny, Speedwagon knew for sure... they had met a few times on occasion. His expression immediately changed from the previous confusion it had held from his conversation with Dio, to one of pure happiness as he rushed the rest of the way to meet his friend.
“I must apologize for him,” Jonathan insisted, gesturing to his adopted brother as he and Speedwagon met each other in front of the door. The dog behind Jonathan gently prodded Speedwagon's hand with his nose before turning and disappearing into the mansion behind them. “He can be quite the downer at times.”
“That’s no problem, JoJo. I’m most excited to see you, anyways!” Speedwagon exclaimed, clapping his hands together. “How are you this morning?”
“I am doing very well!” Jonathan beamed, matching his friend’s joyfulness. “And yourself?”
Fine before I got bumped into. “Eh, I am feeling alright!” Speedwagon decided that he’d allow himself to focus on something else other than Dio’s typical behavior. After all, there was something much more important at hand! “And I hope that you don’t mind that I stopped by so unexpectedly, but I wanted to ask a favor of y…”
The sudden sound of the door to the mansion opening stopped Speedwagon mid-sentence. Immediately, his and Jonathan’s eyes focused on the culprit; Speedwagon was surprised to see three armed guards as well as a middle-aged man who closely resembled Jonathan emerge from the home.
“Is everything alright, Son?” The middle-aged man questioned, confirming the suspicions that Speedwagon had formed about him in his head. This man was Jonathan’s father! “I thought I heard a bit of a commotion out here.”
“Of course. Everything is just fine, Father,” Jonathan promised, before remembering Speedwagon was behind him and glancing back towards him, eager to introduce the two. “Oh! Allow me to introduce you two… this is Robert EO Speedwagon, and I owe him much. Speedwagon, this is my father.”
“Agh!” Speedwagon cried immediately, forcing himself into a bow. “I’m pl-pleased to meet your acquaintance, Mr. Joestar!”
“There’s no need to be so formal, Mr. Speedwagon! The pleasure is all mine,” George Joestar assured, before taking a brief glance around the porch they were standing upon. “By the way, Son… do you happen to know where Dio has run off to?”
“I can’t say I do,” Jonathan answered honestly, before lowering his voice a bit in hopes that his father wouldn’t be able to hear the next bit, “but I hope he’s run off for good.”
“What was the last part?” George questioned, furrowing his eyebrows and catching his son off guard.
“O-oh, I um… I said that I hope he isn’t gone for good!” Jonathan cried, chuckling awkwardly and placing his hand on the back of his neck. “That Dio… he’s always running off anyways. I assume he’ll be back before lunch. I’ll let you know when he arrives, Father.”
At this, George Joestar nodded and entered the home with his guards trailing closely behind him, and Jonathan visibly relaxed at the effort. Speedwagon chuckled a bit, before his eyes widened as he figured that now was likely the best time to bring up his question. “Ah! So, lad, speaking of which… I wanted to ask you. If you are not busied with anything after lunch, would you care to meet me by the lake?”
Jonathan hummed as he thought, taking his loosely planned activities of the day into consideration. “Ah, I don’t believe there is anything this afternoon keeping me from doing so! Though may I ask why the urgency, Speedwagon?”
To Jonathan’s surprise, Speedwagon was already heading away from his home, back down the hill. The slightly older man let out a giddy chuckle into the air as he looked over his shoulder to wave his friend goodbye, “Ah, I’m afraid if I answered it would spoil the fun, JoJo! However, if I may add, make sure to dress your absolute best!”

You stood by the lake that Speedwagon and you had promised to meet up by, impatiently fiddling with one of the buttons lining your outfit.
Within minutes, you’d be standing in front of Jonathan trying to find the correct words to string together in order to form a confession of your love for him… and it was quite the anxiety-inducing thought, to say the least.
There were just too many possibilities regarding what could happen, along with the overall fact that you weren’t even sure if Speedwagon had managed to get Jonathan on board with coming to meet you in the first place.
You were just about to consider heading home to put an end to your troubles, and figuring out an apology to send to Speedwagon about it later on… when all of a sudden you saw his figure emerge from the hills before you, walking in your direction with a certain excitable amount of pep in his step. He must’ve gotten the news that Jonathan would be coming.
When Speedwagon grew close enough to you, he immediately met you with a smile… but could tell from the worried expression on your face that you weren’t particularly too excited. “Y/N, is everything alright?”
“I’m just very nervous, Speedwagon,” you admitted, glancing down at the grass below your feet and letting out a heavy sigh. “I haven’t done anything quite like this before.”
“I’m sure you haven’t. Everything will be okay, Y/N!” Speedwagon exclaimed, placing his hand on your shoulder sympathetically. “Just take a few deep breaths. You’ve got this.”
You followed Speedwagon’s instructions; breathing in until a great deal of refreshing air filled your lungs, and then slowly releasing it all in shaky breaths.
“Believe me, everything will go swimmingly. JoJo will be absolutely chuffed as a result of your asking him!” Speedwagon insisted as you continued calming yourself. “And I have something else that will assist with your nerves as well. If we speak positively, then what we hope will happen will be sure to happen!”
“Is that so?” You questioned in between your breathing.
“Indeed,” Speedwagon replied cheerfully. “Repeat after me… I will be fine confessing to JoJo!”
“I… will be fine confessing to JoJo?” You repeated, though you said it as more of a question.
“With a bit more confidence,” Speedwagon, urging you to repeat the phrase again. “‘I will be fine confessing to JoJo!’”
“I will be fine confessing to JoJo,” you tried again, and this time it gained Speedwagon’s approval.
“There you go, Y/N! Keep calming yourself down and repeating that phrase, and I’m certain that today’s events will play out in your favor!”
“Yes… I will be fine confessing to JoJo!”

“Well, Father, I must be off now. Speedwagon asked me to meet with him today,” Jonathan announced after he had finished eating with the other residents of the Joestar mansion. Aside from Dio, of course. His adopted brother had yet to arrive back from wherever he had ran off to earlier, though something like this wasn’t too out of the ordinary.
“Enjoy your time out, JoJo,” his father replied simply, before his eyebrows furrowed. He must've been pondering what Jonathan had said earlier about Dio likely returning before lunch, and how it had failed to actually occur.
Jonathan took note of this and made sure to pick up his pace so that he’d be able to leave before his Father could bring Dio into the conversation. “Thank you, I’m certain I will!” He called out, hurrying towards the front door and trying his best to ignore the strange looks the mansion’s guards were casting towards him.
He soon found himself peacefully heading towards the lake that Speedwagon had brought up in conversation earlier.
As he walked, he enjoyed the sensation of the sun’s warm rays against his skin and the sweet and clear scent of the outdoors filling his nose. He could understand why Speedwagon had asked him to meet with him outside; it was a very pleasant day.
It wasn’t until he grew closer to the small body of water that he heard a voice that could only belong to Speedwagon echoing through the empty fields around him. Jonathan’s eyebrows furrowed at the sound. He cared for his friend very much, but hearing him talking to himself was… a bit strange. He quickly made sure that he couldn't be seen by Speedwagon as he listened curiously.
“That’s it, let it all out!” The man with the blade-spinning hat called out supportively. “Wait… oh my, I’ve happened to lose track of the time. We must be set for any moment now! Real quick, as a final good luck… what was it that we said, Y/N?”
Y/N ? Jonathan’s face displayed even further confusion as he heard your name leave Speedwagon’s mouth. Sure enough, as he craned his neck for a better view, he noticed your smaller frame standing beside Speedwagon, and he felt a bit of a blush creep across his cheeks.
You and Jonathan had known each other for quite a while now, and had grown very fond of one another. And now, you were the person who he’d love to court one day.
In fact, Jonathan had been considering proposing it to you for a few days now, but he wasn’t yet sure what the best way about going about it was. He was worried that he’d mess something up if he asked too quickly, or didn’t give himself enough time to prepare, or didn’t make it special enough.
The fact that he had gotten the opportunity to see you today, though, caught him off-guard and made him a bit flustered ... he definitely wasn’t expecting it, not when he was supposed to meet up with Speedwagon... the entire scenario was quite puzzling.
Had you been invited to join Speedwagon as well? Had he been planning some type of gathering for the three of you? Or had he been busy speaking with you prior, and Jonathan had simply arrived much too early?
Well, whatever the reason, though he’d love to have the chance to spend the time with you… Jonathan figured he’d have to simply wait to find out until either you or Speedwagon acknowledged his existence. It was unlike a gentleman to eavesdrop on a conversation, after all.
“I will be fine confessing to JoJo,” you said excitedly to Speedwagon, giving him a huge smile. You couldn’t thank him enough for his efforts in helping you with your confession to Jonathan today.
Confessing to JoJo? The phrase had happened to reach Jonathan’s ears, as the sudden use of his name had caught his attention. Immediately, he felt a bit bad… he couldn’t help himself from accidentally overhearing… but at the same time, what could you be confessing to him about?
It was at that moment that Speedwagon’s eyes happened to wander away from you, and he caught a glimpse of Jonathan standing quite a distance from the two of you. “O-oi, there’s the fellow we’ve been waiting for! Jonathan, over here!”
Slowly, Jonathan made his way towards you and Speedwagon, feeling a bit embarrassed. He didn’t want the two of you to think that he had been listening in on anything purposefully, or that he had heard any of what you all had been planning… whatever it was. He was still confused by it all, anyways.
“I-is everything alright, Speedwagon? Y/N?” Jonathan stuttered out as he finally approached you both, feeling his face grow warm and a bright pink as his eyes moved between Speedwagon's eyes and yours. “I, uh... wasn’t sure if I had arrived too early or not. I saw the two of you speaking and I didn’t want to interrupt anything…”
“Oh JoJo, always the thoughtful one!” Speedwagon cried out, smiling warmly at his friend. “I assure you that you wouldn’t have been interrupting. In fact, you were a part of our conversation!”
“...O-oh?” Jonathan stuttered out, trying his hardest to seem as if he was surprised.
“That’s right! And it has to do with Y/N, too.” Speedwagon turned to you at that moment, sending you the same comforting smile he had just given Jonathan. “Here we go. Make sure that you tell him straight, Y/N, okay?”
Jonathan’s soft blue eyes then moved from Speedwagon’s to yours curiously, and you paused in your tracks. You could feel Speedwagon’s grin sending you all the motivation in the world from behind Jonathan, and he was likely even attempting for you to remember the phrase the two of you had been repeating earlier.
But it was entirely different now that Jonathan was actually here beside you. The moment you and he had been speaking so easily about had now actually come, and now you’d have to actually carry the plan through.
The three of you stand in silence a bit longer before you remember what Speedwagon told you.
With his words in mind, you take one last deep breath… and begin letting your emotions flow.
“Jonathan Joestar… you’re as warm as the sun to me,” You began slowly. “You gave me so much warmth that I never knew I needed, and you were there for me even at my worst times. I really like you, so… would you let me court you?”
“Y/N, as a true gentleman, I must decline,” Jonathan responded almost immediately, and your posture faltered a bit at this. What could that mean? What did being a gentleman have to do with your confession?
“I must court you instead,” he finished off, and your expression changed.
“I’ll give the two of you some privacy!” Speedwagon blurted out, quickly spinning around and heading away from you and Jonathan. You could tell that he was quite pleased with your efforts, and that made you happy. Quite the load had been taken off of your chest, but now the other stressful half of the confession awaited… what else from Jonathan would be said in response.
Meanwhile, Jonathan couldn't believe he had told you that he would court you so quickly. Although, this is what he had been awaiting for a while!
He soon decided that what his insisting to court you instead wasn’t enough of an indicator of his feelings towards you... There was more that he would like to say… and as a true gentleman, he wouldn’t hesitate to say them.
“The feelings are mutual, Y/N L/N,” Jonathan admitted, stepping forward to take your hands in his. “I like you just as much. You have always supported me during those moments where my father wouldn’t, and whenever Dio wreaked havoc on my life, you were always there. Spending time with you makes me more happy than anything else in the world.”
He paused for a moment before he asked the question you had been awaiting. “And though I may be a bit late in doing so, I would like to ask you… if you would do me the honor of courting you ?”
“Most definitely, JoJo!” you cried out immediately, beaming from ear to ear.
“Oh, this means so much to me, Y/N!” Jonathan exclaimed, his smile as bright as yours. “You’ve truly made my life more than I could’ve ever dreamt it to be!”
He let out a gleeful chuckle, embracing you in a hug immediately and lifting you from the ground.
“I am very excited to meet your parents, and I know my father will just be over the moon to meet them as well!”
Speedwagon watched the two of you happily from a distance, nodding proudly. He was so honored to know each of you, and he wished you both nothing but the best of luck in your relationship.
