“BakuBro! You are looking extra manly today!” Chirped Kirishima as the grumpy blond strolled into the common room.
The comment earn him a raised eyebrow but before he could retort Mina chimed in. “Manly!? I think you mean handsome and well dressed!”
“Smart!” Roared Kaminari. “The man looks like a genius! He always does!”
Bakugo rolled his eyes but everyone saw the fondness in his eyes. He turned to look at Sero. “Got anything to add Elbows?”
Sero just gave him a large grin and a shrug. “You are an amazing cook and we need the energy for today. They all just felt the need to butter you up.” The grin widened just a little as he winked. “You know we are all hopeless without you.”
“At least he gets it right. You bunch of dumbasses.” He said as he headed toward the kitchen followed shortly by the sound of banging pots.
“Yes!” Mina and Kirishima roared high-fiving.
“Operation butter up the chef was a success!” Kaminari gave a little dance and most of the class giggled at his actions while Sero, the more mature of the BakuSquad, simply smiled at his friends antics.
Deku watched the entire exchange with a fond smile. ‘I’m so glad he has them now.’ The green headed boy thought to himself.
The class morning routine proceeded as normal for all of about 5 minutes until a frustrated scream and an explosion came from the kitchen. A cast iron pan came flying out of the kitchen at near sonic speed embedding it’s self in the common room wall all the way up to the handle. Followed quickly by the explosion user by himself stomping toward the front door.
“BakuBro?” Kirishima asked as he took a step toward the blonde.
“FUCK OFF SHITTY HAIR!” Bakugo roared as he slammed the door open. The vitriol in his voice made the entire class flinch as the door slammed behind him leaving them all confused.
As they all looked at each other bewildered, only Sero moved into the kitchen returning with what appeared to be Bakugo’s destroyed phone in his hand. Most of the class visibly relaxed at the sight.
“So that’s what his issue was kero?” Tsu asked with her head cocked to the side. “Talk about an overreaction.”
The rest of the class all chuckled and resumed their morning routines. Except the BakuSquad and looked at each other with doubt written on their faces. Other than them only Deku hadn’t moved a muscle staring at the door where Bakugo had exited.
“Something is wrong.” The green boy said quietly to himself. The look on his old friend face had been one he hadn’t seen in a long time, one of absolute pain.
~
The class was shocked that when they got to class the blonde wasn’t in the room. For 10 minutes everyone sat in their seats questioning where their classmate was. The BakuSquad were all on edge as well as Deku whose eyes had not moved from watching the classroom door. When the bell rang all eyes snapped to the door. Bakugo had never been late before...
The door opened and everyone visibly relaxed as Bakugo entered with their equally grumpy teacher but his demeanor was all wrong... With his head down, shoulders hunched he walked to his desk without lifting his eyes. Even Aizawa watched his student with a quirked eyebrow.
As he reached his desk in front of Deku’s the boy reached out and grabbed his old friends hand. “Kacchan-“ He started to say but was cut off.
“Don’t Deku... Just... Don’t.” The blonde said quietly which shocked the rest of the class just as much as the fact he hadn’t blown up the other boy. Bakugo didn’t like being touched in the best of times. Deku slowly let go of the hand and Bakugo sat down as class begun.

Strangely Aizawa taught right up until lunch forgoing his normal mid morning nap. The BakuSquad had been counting on that time to talk to their fearless leader and had glared at their teacher with suspicion. When the lunch bell rang all 4 immediately sprang to their feet and turned to Bakugo’s desk.
The blonde took one look at them and simply said. “Nope.” And proceeded to hop out the window. After a moment of looking dumbstruck the squad scrambled to the window and looked for their friend but he was already gone.
“What the fuck...” Kaminari whispered.
~
After lunch was heroics class and the rest of class A found their explosive counterpart already on the field standing next to a weirded out looking All Might and Aizawa. They both kept shooting passing glances at the blonde as they described the day’s class of pursuit combat in a city scape and told the group to split into pairs.
“BakuBro!” “Blasty!” “Kacchan!” Kirishima, Mina, and Kaminari all yelled at once.
But they were to late as Bakugo had already grabbed Todoroki by the front of the shirt and was dragging him toward the mock city. “You’re with me Icy Hot.” Was all the blonde said as his friends all deflated.
Once they were out of ear shot Todoroki asked. “Why me?”
“Because you know better than to ask me stupid fucking questions!” Bakugo barked. “Other than that one obviously.” He added getting a small smile out of the icy boy.
In the end he was too distracted, too occupied to be doing this kind of exercise. While attempting a sharp turn in pursuit of his target he mistimed a blast and hit a building at full force and Aizawa had enough at that point.
“Go see recovery girl and then go back to the dorms.” He snapped at the boy.
“What! But-“ Bakugo tried to interject.
“No buts! You are distracted and in no condition to be in this class. It’s dangerous for you and your classmates!” Their sensei’s eyes glowed red and hair begun to stand up. “You are dismissed...” He finished quietly as he let his quirk go.
Bakugo looked at his feet in what on anyone else would have been shame. “Yes sensei.” He said quietly and stomped off with everyone else present watching him leave.
~
As soon as class was dismissed the BakuSquad had bolted to the lockers rooms. They were then seen running across campus half dressed still pulling on their clothes as the headed toward the dorms. The remainder of class A was not far behind but when they arrived at the dorms they had not expect to walk into a one sided screaming match.
“BakuBro we just want to help.” Pleaded Kirishima gently with his hands up trying to approach his best friend in the common room of the dorm.
“I DON’T NEED YOU! I DON’T NEED ANYONE! I DON’T NEED HELP! I NEED YOU TO FUCK OFF!!!” Screamed Bakugo with his hands sparking as a warning.
“Kacchan what’s wrong? Please-“ Kaminari asked but was cut off.
“DON’T CALL ME THAT STUPID FUCKING NAME YOU USELESS EXTRA!!!” Bakugo roared at the other blonde.
“Blasty-“ Mina tried as she moved a little closer.
“EAT A DICK YOU PINK FREAK I DON’T WANT TO FUCKING HEAR SHIT FROM YOU!!!” The vitriol and distain in his voice was palpable. Mina’s eyes started to water and she looked like she was about to cry.
“BAKUGO!!!” Sero finally yelled back. “That’s enough...” He looked so... Disappointed and for just a moment Bakugo’s facade seemed to crack and a look of pain flickered across his face.
“F-fuck o-off.” The explosive blonde stuttered as he turned and stiffly walked toward the door leading outside.
The entire class was frozen as they watched him turn his back on his friends. He made it all of about 50ft before he stopped and put his hands on his head. He bent over slightly and his shoulders begun to shake. The entirety of the class was in absolute shock and now began to truly understand that the outburst at breakfast was not over a broken phone. Deku was torn between going after his old friend or giving him space.
Suddenly Bakugo stood ramrod straight and looked to the sky letting out an agonizing scream. He turned to the nearest tree and let out a large explosion! The entire tree caught on fire and Bakugo stumbled back in slight shock. He then let out a second explosion using his other hand but with less heat and more concussion snuffing the flames immediately.
At this point Ida had enough and began to March toward the door. “Destroying school property is unacceptable and as class rep I will stop this immediately!”
“Ida...” The voice that echoed in the common room was so laced with venom that the tall boy actually jumped and looked around for the source spooked.
All eyes fell to Mina who even with tears running down her face looked terrifying. “If you step one foot out that door I will melt you into a puddle.” The line was delivered with such a calm voice everyone in the room shuddered.
Everyone’s attention was redirected as another blast was heard outside followed immediately by another and another and another. Bakugo had taken to lighting the tree on fire and then snuffing it out repeatedly all while yelling something incomprehensible.
Jiro had her jacks point outside listening and was wincing with each explosion but had a confused look on her face. She turned to Shoji who also had his limbs turned into ears. She raised an eyebrow at him in an unasked question.
The boy nodded at her and then looked back outside. “He keeps saying ‘It’s Not Fair’ over and over again.”
The rest of the class turned back to the scene outside and watched as Bakugo slowly ran out of steam. He finally put the tree out and bent over with his hands on his knees gasping for breath.
Then the moment was interrupted by a small female voice. “I Am Here!” Normally Deku’s text alert would get a chuckle out of everyone. His mother saying his favorite hero’s catch phrase was one of many adorable things about him. The boy blushed at the interruption and pulled his phone to check his messages.
Uraraka was one of the only ones watching him as his face went completely pale. “Oh no.” He whispered and the rest of the class turned to look at him but he was already moving. His phone dropped to the floor and green lightning surrounded him as he bolted out the door in the blink of an eye. The door smashed open and was now hanging by a single hinge.
Bakugo looked up as his oldest friend came to a stop in front of him. He immediately began yelling at the shorter boy to fuck off. Deku had his hands up trying to placate the other boy and already had tears streaming down his face. Finally he slowly put his hands down and said something softly making Bakugo freeze. The class then witnessed something that broke every heart watching.
Bakugo just... Crumpled. He slowly sank to his knees and his face twisted into one of absolute sorrow. He buried it into his hands and began to sob loudly. Deku slowly moved in and wrapped him into a hug. It only took a moment before the blonde melted into it and buried his face in the other boys shirt letting all of his pent up feelings out.
The entire class just felt lost at this point. Without any prompting Jiro spoke up this time. “Midoriya just said ‘I’m sorry you didn’t get to say goodbye.’” The class all looked at each other trying to figure out what had happened.
Confused Uraraka walked over and picked up Deku’s phone to read the message but still looked bewildered.
“What does it say? Kero.” Tsu asked.
“It says ‘Is Katsuki ok!? Mitsuki just called and told me KEM passed away last night.’” She answered quietly.
A collective gasp came from the BakuSquad and the class turned to look at them. Kirishima, Mina, and Kaminari were all already scrambling out the front door each with tears rolling down their faces. When they reached Bakugo and Deku they all quickly moved in close. Kirishima hugged his best friend from behind with Mina and Kaminari each taking one side. If anything Bakugo’s sobs got louder being surrounded on all sides with a hug.
Sero was the only squad member still inside and the class looked to him for an explication. He wasn’t paying any attention to them he was watching his friends outside. He then took a deep breath and with tears in his eyes he walked over to Uraraka and plucked the phone out of her hand placing it in his back pocket. He locked eyes with Uraraka for a long moment, she saw his swimming with sadness and concern. Without a word he turned to head outside to be with his friends.
“Sero...” Uraraka started making the boy stop but didn’t know what else to say.
The tall boy let out a long sigh before he began. “KEM or King Explosion Murder is- was Bakugo’s dog. He raised him from a puppy and they were inseparable.”
“All this over a dog?” Tsu asked a little bluntly which earned her a dirty look from Sero. She wasn’t being malicious or anything she just didn’t understand.
Sero turned away from her and looked back outside before he began to talk again. “I know you guys don’t know everything about their past but even though they act like siblings now Midoriya and Bakugo had a really... Rough patch for more than a few years from about the age of 5 up through middle school.” He took a moment and seemed to choose his words carefully. “Neither of them really had any friends while they were apart and Bakugo wasn’t doing well alone.”
This statement shocked most of the class. The boy had tried to keep everyone at arms length during their first year and was still very stand-offish.
Sero continued his explanation. “So his parents bought him a German Shepherd puppy. They basically grew up together and KEM was his best friend. We got to meet him a few times.” The tall boy got a small smile on his face. “He was getting old but was still a big goober and acted like a puppy even though he was almost 9.”
Sero walked to the door but stopped with his hand on the door. “Just... Give him some time. He’ll be ok. We’ll take care of him.” With out a backward glance he walked outside and using his long arms encircled all his friends in a large hug.
