Just a Few More Nights

Summary:

All Namjoon wanted to do was be with the love of his life. Was that too much to ask?

Prompt:

***This is an extra prompt submitted by EHkook***

Namjoon and Yoongi are lovers as well as music producers for two different companies who try to make time for each other, but fail when work gets in the way. Sometimes they don’t get to see each other for weeks because of work. While they’re away from one another, Namjoon gets inspired to write a personal song based on this experience. Finally, around Christmas time, they find time to meet one another and Namjoon wants to tell his lover about his song. Much to his surprise, Yoongi has had the same song idea and shares his piece of work. The two decide to collaborate with one another and create the song Spring Day.

Work Text:

Another night spent working late in the studio.

Namjoon was stuck at his computer, racking his brain for ideas for a song he was working on. It was only nearing midnight, but Namjoon’s mind was nearly fried.

However, he felt like if he were to go home, then the gears in his head would stop turning. He had come up with a lot of good ideas so far, and he didn’t want the streak to end.

There was a knock at his studio door and he glanced over, standing up and walking over to the door. He opened it and saw one of the company managers, Seyeon, holding two cups of hot coffee.

“Here,” said Seyeon. “You’re doing okay?”

“Yeah, I’m fine,” Namjoon said, offering a sheepish smile as he accepted the coffee. “Just a slow process is all.”

“You know, if you need to go home and rest, you can come back tomorrow to continue.”

“No, it’s fine. I’ve already made lots of progress. I’m just going to head back to work—”

Namjoon was cut off when he heard his phone ring.

He recognized the ringtone—he set it for a specific someone—and hurried to his phone, nearly spilling his coffee in the process.

As he set down the coffee on the table, he picked up his phone and quickly answered.

“Hey, love,” Namjoon said with a smile.

“Namjoon?” said Yoongi, the love of his life.

“Yes, love?”

“Nothing, I just really miss you and wanted to hear your voice.”

Namjoon chuckled. “I miss you, too.”

“How’s work?”

“Ah, it’s going well. Nothing that I can’t handle.”

Yoongi sighed. “That’s good.” There was a pause. “Listen, Joon, I’m sorry I had to cancel tonight. I really wanted to see you, but something came up at work. I’m so sorry.”

“You don’t need to apologize,” Namjoon said, his heart feeling heavy at the thought of Yoongi feeling guilty for something he had no control over. “I understand. It’s going to take more than busy work schedules to make me mad at you.”

Yoongi let out a light-hearted laugh—the most melodic sound to Namjoon’s ears. “I love you.”

“I love you, too.” Namjoon tightened his hold on his phone. “I’ll see you soon.”

“I hope so. It’s been, what, three weeks?”

“Four.”

“Did you really keep count?”

“We last saw each other on my birthday, didn’t we?”

“Ah, right. We did. Four weeks, huh? That’s a whole new record.”

Namjoon laughed. “Let’s aim for five.”

“Hey, don’t be like that. I’ll try to make time for you.”

“As will I for you.”

“I have to go. I’ll see you soon.”

“Yeah.”

“I love you.”

“I love you.”

Yoongi hung up. Namjoon set his phone back down, sighing.

“Ah,” spoke a voice. Namjoon turned to look at Seyeon. “Is that why you’re here still?”

Namjoon bit his bottom lip. “He’s really busy, and I don’t think I’ve been making much progress with work lately. This is the perfect opportunity for me to get some work done while I can.”

Seyeon folded his arms over his chest. “Just don’t push yourself. If you need to take a break, take it. You’re really great at what you do, so I doubt you’d be scolded if you took a few more breaks than usual.”

Namjoon chuckled. “Thanks. I’ll take your advice.”

Seyeon waved goodbye and left Namjoon to himself in his studio.

Namjoon looked down at his phone, the black screen staring right back at him somehow.

He collapsed into his chair and ran his fingers through his hair, trying his best to get back to work.

As much as Namjoon missed his beautiful boyfriend, Yoongi was working hard. Namjoon understood the amount of work he had—they were both producers, after all.

The two met ten years ago because they were working under the same company as producers. Their first meeting was awkward and they didn’t click right away, but gradually as time passed they got closer, and Namjoon’s feelings for Yoongi grew.

It wasn’t until about seven years into the future did Yoongi confess to Namjoon and admit that he liked him since their earlier days. Namjoon was surprised, to say the least. He just never thought that anyone—especially someone that he was interested in—would ever like him.

Of course, Namjoon took the opportunity to let Yoongi know that he reciprocated his feelings.

And the rest was history.

Up until last year, they were working under the same company as producers. Namjoon and Yoongi were discovered by another company from the opposite side of the city who wanted to hire them as producers—and they were offered a very handsome deal.

Namjoon didn’t think of the company he currently worked at as work. He felt like everyone there was his family—the artists and staff were all very close. He turned down the offer, even though he would have gotten paid more for doing the same amount of work.

Yoongi, on the other hand, didn’t hesitate to accept. He loved working at his old company—especially working alongside Namjoon—but at the time Yoongi was struggling financially and he needed to earn more money. He had to accept, even though he wouldn’t be able to see Namjoon every day at work.

They promised to see each other as much as possible once Yoongi transferred companies.

They both just never expected simply seeing each other to be so difficult. Work had resulted in them going days or even weeks without seeing each other’s faces.

It hurt them both to be away from one another for so long, but they loved each other too much to just let things go for some mild inconveniences.

It was going to take so much more than busy schedules and distance to separate them.

Rather than returning to work immediately, Namjoon picked up his phone and stared at his wallpaper—a simple picture of Yoongi holding a bouquet of white roses that Namjoon surprised him for his birthday. In the picture, Yoongi was smiling his signature gummy smile that Namjoon loved and adored so much. His smile was so big that it met his eyes, and the cute and soft outfit he wore matched his fluffy brown hair.

This was probably Namjoon’s favorite picture of Yoongi ever. He even customized his home screen to make all the apps clear so that Namjoon could clearly see this beautiful photo.

Namjoon gently brushed his thumb over Picture Yoongi’s cheek, but then that resulted in his phone opening up the Notes app. He let out a sigh.

Oh, how he wished to be with Yoongi right now, cup his precious cheeks in his hands, and kiss him forever.

Before Namjoon could lock his phone, a message from Yoongi came in. He opened it up and read the text.

love of my life
take care of yourself and stay safe. love you

Namjoon smiled. He could hear Yoongi’s voice reading that. He missed him so much. Four weeks was far too long to be away from the love of his life. Namjoon quickly responded back before returning to work.

-

Even though Namjoon joked to hit a new record of five weeks of the couple not seeing each other, he did not expect to go another four weeks without his Yoongi.

It was already November. The two hadn’t seen each other since Namjoon’s birthday when Yoongi surprised Namjoon at his company. He had managed to finish a large amount of work in advance to surprise his boyfriend who was planning to stay all night in his studio. To say the least, Namjoon was completely ecstatic when Yoongi showed up at his studio door with a birthday cake and sang Happy Birthday to him.

The company had surprised Namjoon with a little birthday party earlier (Yoongi was invited, of course, but he couldn’t make it because he was cramming to finish all his work at that time), but Namjoon was more than happy to be surprised by the love of his life.

Even though Namjoon planned to pull an all-nighter, he didn’t get much work done. Yoongi was far too distracting for Namjoon to continue. How could Namjoon keep working when his god of a lover was in his presence after a long time? Namjoon took the opportunity to plant kisses all over Yoongi’s cute face and cuddle with him on the couch provided in the studio.

They spent the entire night chatting and making out with one another.

Namjoon couldn’t have asked for a more perfect birthday present.

Of course, all fairy tales had to come to an end. They were up the entire night, but Yoongi had to leave for work as soon as the sun began to rise. Namjoon tried to give his best pout to make his lover stay, but he also felt bad that he kept his boyfriend from any sleep who now had to return to the life where he had to work away from him. Yoongi promised with kisses that he wanted to do this and that he would take any necessary breaks if he were too tired to continue.

Namjoon didn’t know that he could fall more in love with Yoongi at that moment.

He also didn’t know that he would go eight weeks without Yoongi since then.

He had finished a few songs that he had been working on for weeks, but then he was tasked to work on more songs with another group that was set to make their debut the following year.

Namjoon and Yoongi have only gotten busier and busier as the days went on. Every once in a while, one of them would be free and ask to meet with the other, but the other would be too busy and regretfully turn down the offer.

Before, they would ask every day if they could meet up after work, but nowadays the most communication they would receive from one another is simple reminders to one another: stay safe, drink water, get lots of rest, I love you. And even those simple reminders didn’t occur every day.

So, here was Namjoon. Eight weeks later. Without his Yoongi.

He was honestly Yoongi-starved. He missed him so much.

The sun was setting and Namjoon was stuck with more work than absolutely necessary. It was really stressing him out, because one of the files he was working with somehow got corrupted, and a lot of the progress he made was gone. He usually backed up his files to a separate hard drive, but the one time he decided not to do that the file was ruined.

He had promised to get the song in by tomorrow for the artist and their managers, but this unfortunate circumstance had costed him extra time. Now he had to pull another all-nighter to redo all of his progress. To make things worse, the cherry on top of this situation was that his computer was running slower than usual, not able to process his actions quickly or at all.

To say the least, Namjoon was annoyed and so stressed out. He could have been done by now if this hadn’t happened to him.

Nothing could be worse than this.

Namjoon felt his phone vibrating in his pocket. He pulled it out and saw Yoongi was calling him.

He answered immediately, since this was the first time Yoongi has called in a few days. “Hello?”

“Joon, I managed to get a night off,” Yoongi said, the excited tone in his voice showing that he had the biggest smile on his face. “Are you free tonight? I can stop by the restaurant and bring some food over so we can have dinner together.”

Yoongi sounded so happy to finally find time to spend with his boyfriend that it broke Namjoon’s heart.

Of course. The one day Namjoon could have had free time, a file got corrupted, and now he couldn’t spend any time with Yoongi.

This was the first time Yoongi was free in a long time. If Namjoon had backed up that damn file, he could be done with his work for the day, be on his merry way home, reunite with the love of his life, and cuddle and kiss him until they both fall asleep.

Namjoon was so upset at everything.

“Yoongi, I’m sorry,” Namjoon said with a heavy sigh. “I—I’m stuck in the studio again. A file for this song I was working on got corrupted for some reason, and it is really stressing me out. Trust me I’d love to spend time with you, but I need absolute concentration. I have to get it finished by tomorrow morning.”

He really wanted to see Yoongi. He really did. It was just that because he missed Yoongi so much, he wanted to do nothing but pamper him. He didn’t want their first meeting in weeks to be Namjoon solely focused on work.

He wanted to spend quality time with his boyfriend.

There was silence on Yoongi’s end, followed by an, “Oh.”

Namjoon bit his bottom lip. “I’m sorry.”

“No, no. It’s fine. I understand. These things just can’t be avoided. Don’t worry. I’m heading home then. Work hard, stay safe, and please take breaks. I know there’s a deadline and you have a lot on your plate right now, but breaks are a must. Please take them when absolutely necessary. I’ll see you another time.”

Another time, he said. Not soon.

They both gave up on soon.

“Yeah, okay.”

“Yeah.”

It was silent.

Namjoon cleared his throat. “Hey, love?”

“Yes?”

“I love you.”

“I love you, too. Good night.”

The phone call ended.

Frustrated, Namjoon tossed the phone aside and leaned back in his seat, letting out an exasperated groan. He was so frustrated. So, so frustrated.

Right now, he didn’t have time to indulge himself in a pity party for failing to be with the love of his life after weeks of being apart. He lightly smacked his cheeks and returned to work.

He had a lot to get done.

-

Thirteen weeks.

Namjoon last saw Yoongi thirteen weeks ago.

December had finally arrived.

But tonight, Namjoon received a miracle.

Namjoon was able to get the night off in a long time, and the first thing he did as he ran out of the company building was to call Yoongi, his heart pounding in his chest as the excitement and nerves of seeing his love again ran through his entire body. Or maybe it was the fact that he was running, but minor details.

“Hey, Joon,” Yoongi said, his honey voice meeting Namjoon’s ears.

“Yoongi, I’m on my way home,” Namjoon said happily, his heart beating even harder.

“Really? That’s wonderful!”

Namjoon waited. “You’re happy, right? May I see you tonight?”

“Of course I’m happy! But... I have to stay late tonight.”

His beating heart fell into the pit of his stomach.

Namjoon stopped running. “O-Oh.”

“Yeah. One of the producers called in sick, but one of the groups under the company label came in today to record a song. I’m the only one available right now.”

“Do you know when you’ll be free?”

“I don’t know. It looks like a lot needs to be done. I may be here all night.”

Namjoon’s grip on his phone tightened. “I see.”

“Joon, I’m sorry.”

“It’s okay, don’t apologize. It’s not your fault. I understand.”

“I know, but...” Yoongi sighed. “I miss you so much.”

Namjoon let his teeth tug at his bottom lip before releasing it. “I miss you, too.”

“And I love you. So much. Never forget that.”

Namjoon chuckled weakly. “Of course. I’ll never forget that. I love you, too. You’re the love of my life.”

“So cheesy, but you’re so cute.”

“Not as cute as you.”

“God, Namjoon. I can’t have this conversation. It’s so cringey, I’m actually blushing.”

This time, Namjoon laughed. With more heart in his laugh this time. “I love you. Drink water, stay safe, and take breaks.”

“I love you, too,” Yoongi said. “Get lots of rest when you get home. Don’t forget to eat dinner. Not instant ramen. I have a feeling that’s a majority of your diet. Something healthier. Maybe some takeout?”

Namjoon shook his head in amusement. “You know me too well.”

“Of course. What kind of boyfriend would I be if I didn’t know my own boyfriend?”

“Okay, I’ll make sure to get something healthier. How about a hamburger?”

“Namjoon.”

“I tried.”

Yoongi laughed. “As long as it’s not instant ramen, then. Change up your meals. Please.”

“Yes, I will. When we see each other again, please feed me with some of this ‘healthier food’ that you speak of.”

“Even better, I’ll teach you to be a better cook.”

“Sounds perfect.”

It was quiet for a bit as the two chuckled.

“I love you, Joon. I’ll see you another time,” Yoongi said.

“I love you too, love. I’ll see you another time,” Namjoon said.

The call ended.

Namjoon stared at the screen as he was met with Yoongi’s contact information. He locked his phone and pocketed it.

Although the night didn’t go as planned, he felt better after having that brief chat with Yoongi. It was refreshing.

Even though they couldn’t see each other often, Namjoon knew that every day that passed by was a day closer to being with Yoongi again. Their reunion would be all the more emotional, and Namjoon was going to make sure that he showered Yoongi in so much love when they met again.

He was still sad that they couldn’t meet tonight, but he knew that they would meet again. Work couldn’t keep them away from one another forever.

Or, at least, that was what the Namjoon the day before thought.

The following day, Namjoon was tasked to go out and restock on snacks in the breakroom. He lost a game of rock-paper-scissors with his coworkers, so here he was at the supermarket filling up the shopping cart with ramen, chips, sweets, and water.

He entered one of the aisles to grab a few boxes of Peperos when he heard two people having a conversation near him.

“It’s whatever,” one of them said. “We weren’t working out anyway.”

“You two were dating for almost a year,” said another. “I really thought you two would work out.”

Namjoon was staring blankly at the Pepero box, his attention focused on the conversation. He really shouldn’t be eavesdropping, but he couldn’t help it. The conversation hit too close to home.

“Yeah, well, he got a job. Now, he doesn’t have time to see me anymore. Our schedules conflict. What’s the point of dating someone if you don’t have time with each other anymore?”

Namjoon didn’t realize his eyes were tearing up until a tear fell onto the sweets box he was holding. He threw the boxes into the shopping cart and hurried out of the aisle, wiping his eyes furiously so that no one could tell that he had been crying.

What’s the point of dating someone if you don’t have time with each other anymore?

Namjoon had to disagree with that. He wanted to disagree with it. So what if he and Yoongi didn’t see each other as often as they used to? So what if the last time they saw each other was on Namjoon’s birthday? They still loved each other. As long as they loved each other, they could get through this together.

They had to get through it.

They just had to.

Once Namjoon had returned to the company building after shopping for snacks, he quickly escaped to the safety and comfort of his studio, closing the door behind him and lying down on the couch.

He had his arm over his eyes as tears stained his jacket’s sleeve.

Namjoon was, without a doubt, frustrated. Not with Yoongi—he could never be mad at the love of his life for something he couldn’t control. Or anything, for that matter. He was just frustrated that life kept them apart. Seeing each other grew harder and harder every day. Now, they hardly talked anymore.

He never thought that things would turn out like this. He had to trust Yoongi, but the conversation at the supermarket plagued his mind that was currently in a fragile state.

What’s the point of dating someone if you don’t have time with each other anymore?

What’s the point of dating someone if you don’t have time with each other anymore?

What’s the point of dating someone if you don’t have time with each other anymore?

“I miss you,” Namjoon said in a whisper.

But just saying that only made him miss Yoongi more.

He wiped the tears from his eyes again, pulling out his phone to look at his favorite Yoongi photo again.

Currently, photos were the closest to the real person he loved so much.

Now it was hard to even see each other’s faces.

Namjoon sat upright, his eyes never leaving the photo on his phone. He was feeling so many emotions right now, ranging from longing, frustration, saudade.

He needed to release all these feelings somehow.

Namjoon stood from the couch and returned to his seat at his computer. He had a notepad and pen on the desk as well, bringing them in front of him and opening to the first empty page.

Maybe if he wrote down his feelings, he would feel better.

I miss you
When I say that, I miss you more
I’m looking at your photo
But I still miss you

Namjoon paused.

He had only written a few lines, but he was already invested.

This could be a good way to release his pent-up emotions.

He had a melody sitting in his hard drive for a while and didn’t know what to do with it before.

But now, he had an idea.

-

For one week, Namjoon had spent his spare time working on the song that was born from the time apart from the love of his life. Yoongi hadn’t messaged him about being free, and Namjoon, although he had other projects to work on, had so much motivation and energy to write this song.

It wasn’t entirely about him and Yoongi, but it was certainly inspired. Christmas was nearing, and he wanted to give this song to Yoongi. Although he was far from finishing since there were some parts where he was still racking his brain for ideas, even a work-in-progress he knew Yoongi would love and appreciate for sure.

He had written some of the lyrics, but his main focus was on producing the music for the song. He decided that the melody he had for a long time would be the chorus, and he organized the instruments to add to the song.

It took him a week, but eventually, he was content with the result of the instrumental audio. Maybe if he asked for a second opinion, it would be perfect for Yoongi.

He even thought of the perfect title for the song.

He was going to call it—

Namjoon’s phone began to vibrate as he was finishing up with the melody. Without much thought, he removed the headphones and let them rest around his neck as he brought his phone up to his ear, not bothering to look at the caller ID.

“Hello?” Namjoon said.

“Joon,” Yoongi said, his voice almost breathless.

Namjoon froze.

He hit pause on the song he was making, his full attention now on the love of his life.

“Yes, love?” Namjoon said, licking his dry lips. He reached for his water bottle and opened it with one hand.

“I’m off work,” Yoongi said. “Please tell me you’re free, too.”

Namjoon’s heart began to pound hard in his chest, his fingers frozen around the cap of the water bottle.

He wasn’t home, but he had time.

He actually had time.

“Yes,” Namjoon said. “Oh, my God, yes. I’m actually free right now.”

“Really?” Yoongi’s voice was filled with excitement. “Thank goodness! Are you at home?”

“I’m still at the studio, but I’m working on something. Um—” Namjoon took a swig of his water after opening the bottle and then set the bottle aside “—you can come over. I’m just working on a personal project.”

“Oh, that’s good.”

Namjoon gulped. “I’d like to ask for another producer’s opinion on this. Do you think you can give me some feedback?”

“Of course. Anything for you. I’ll be there in half an hour.”

Namjoon smiled. “Great. I’ll see you soon.”

Soon.

“I’ll see you soon.”

Soon.

“I love you,” Yoongi continued.

“I love you, too,” Namjoon said.

Then the call ended.

Namjoon took the time to tidy up his studio (it had gotten messy over the course of one week. His main priority was on music and not so much on cleaning). He minimized the program that the project he was working on was located, but not before saving it and backing it up on an external hard drive. He was not going to let this file get corrupted right before Yoongi was coming over.

Thirty minutes passed and Namjoon almost missed the sound of the door knocking since the pounding of his heart was louder in his ears. The door opened, and there was Yoongi, the love of his life, with a bag of what smelled like fried chicken.

“I brought dinner,” Yoongi said, raising the hand that held the bag of food. “I figured you probably didn’t eat yet—”

Namjoon immediately pulled Yoongi into a tight hug, burying his face into the crook of his lover’s neck.

“I missed you,” Namjoon said, feeling the tears threaten his eyes, although this time for joy. “I missed you so much.”

Yoongi returned the hug, using his free arm. “I missed you too.”

“I love you. I don’t ever want to be away from you for so long ever again.”

Yoongi chuckled, his fingers tightening around the material of Namjoon’s sweater. “I love you, too.”

Namjoon drew away slightly so he could see Yoongi’s beautiful face. He brought a hand up to his cheek and caressed his thumb over the smooth skin.

He nearly let more tears fall. The love of his life was really here in his arms.

Namjoon immediately pulled Yoongi in for a deep kiss, the sound of the food dropping to the ground as Yoongi wrapped both his arms around Namjoon. They fell onto the couch with Yoongi straddling over Namjoon’s lap, their lips moving in sync and never detaching.

Yoongi’s hands were placed gently on the back of Namjoon’s neck as Namjoon’s hands rested on Yoongi’s waist, bringing his boyfriend closer to him. The two continued making out like they hadn’t seen each other in forever, as if they feared that if they moved away the moment would pass all too quickly and they would return to the reality that was work.

Eventually, the two did pull away from one another, their breaths mixing with one another as they both were gathering more air into their lungs. Yoongi rested his forehead against Namjoon’s, their eyes gazing into each other’s.

“I love you,” Yoongi said. “Don’t you dare forget that.”

“I won’t forget,” Namjoon promised.

Yoongi gave a quick peck to Namjoon’s lips. “Let’s eat dinner, okay? My poor baby must be hungry. You worked so hard.”

“You worked hard, too.” Namjoon lightly smacked Yoongi’s bum as the latter moved off, the two standing up as Namjoon picked up the nearly forgotten bag of food on the ground. “Let’s eat. Thank you for the food.”

-

“It was so stressful!” Yoongi said, leaning his head back against the couch. “The equipment decided it was a good time to stop working, and I was so annoyed. I had to wait an entire two hours for someone to come in and get it fixed.”

“That’s what happens when you work in the dead of the night,” Namjoon said, laughing.

“Yeah, but I’m the most productive then. You know me. I’m a night owl. Thankfully, we got the job done, and the song was submitted on time. It would have been much sooner if we upgraded our equipment. I’ll have to work harder so that we get more money to get better stuff.”

As Yoongi continued ranting about how the company needed to be up-to-date with the newest technology, Namjoon leaned in and kissed Yoongi on the cheek. Yoongi, taken aback by the sudden action, looked at Namjoon with surprise.

“Hey,” Yoongi said, “I’m in the middle of venting to you. Are you listening to me?”

“I missed this,” Namjoon said. “I missed us. I missed you.”

Yoongi pouted. “So you’ve been saying for the past hour.”

“And it’s true. We’ve been away for so long. I’m so happy to be with you again.”

Yoongi couldn’t keep the pout on his face as he cupped Namjoon’s cheeks and gave a quick peck on the lips. “You’re so cute.”

Namjoon stole another kiss from Yoongi. “You’re cuter.”

“Stop, I’m going to be sick from this sappy talk.”

Namjoon laughed. His expression changed to something more serious as he took Yoongi’s hands and held them between them on his lap. “There’s something I want to show you.”

Yoongi tilted his head, but then his face lit up in realization. “Oh, is it the song? Right, let’s take a listen to that.”

Before Yoongi could stand, Namjoon pulled him back down and continued. “Actually, I was writing it for you.”

Yoongi’s eyes widened. “F-For me?”

“Yeah. I was deprived of my precious Yoongi that I had to let out my emotions somewhere. It turned into a song. I’ve been working on it for a week

“You wrote a song?” Yoongi asked. “In a week?”

“Well, not exactly. I’m still thinking of lyrics. Do you want to have a listen?”

“I—yes, of course. You put your heart and soul into this for me. Of course I’ll listen.”

Namjoon led Yoongi over to his computer and opened the program with the song he was working on and let the music play.

The sound of the instruments complementing one another to form a melancholic yet beautiful melody filled the room.

There were no vocal demos singing the lyrics to go with the song as it played, yet as Namjoon watched Yoongi’s expression, it was clear that Yoongi could still feel the emotions the song was portraying.

Namjoon was softly humming the lyrics under his breath, happy with how they flowed so perfectly with the music.

This song—he felt that if he were to actually release it to the public, it would become a hit.

As the song came to an end, Yoongi looked up at Namjoon.

“Namjoon, I—” he began “—that was so beautiful. I love it. I don’t even know the lyrics, but this song makes me want to cry. You said this was about us?”

“Not completely, but inspired,” Namjoon said. He showed his lyric book to Yoongi. “These are the lyrics that I came up with so far for the song. I only came up with a verse and a bit of the chorus. I’m still thinking of more ideas for the next verse, the bridge, and whatever else can be in the chorus.”

“Wait, are you serious?” Yoongi’s eyes were wide. “These are really the lyrics?”

Namjoon nodded, but then he grew slightly anxious. “Wait, are they bad?”

“No, they’re perfect! It’s just that—” Yoongi paused as he pulled out his phone. He unlocked it, went to his notes app and showed it to Namjoon. “It’s better if you read this.”

Namjoon looked at the lyrics, and it was his turn for his eyes to grow wide.

Past the end of this cold winter
Until the spring comes again
Until the flowers bloom again
Stay there a little longer
Stay there

“We’re both basically writing the same song,” Namjoon said, continuing to read to the next part of the song.

Yoongi gulped. “I also was inspired to write during our time apart. I only wrote lyrics though. No melody. Of course, just like your lyrics, mine are only inspired. Not entirely related to us.”

“So this part where it says you hate me is true or not?”

“Hey, you wrote in your verse that you hate us.”

“I meant that I hate the ‘us’ that couldn’t see each other, but—” Namjoon pulled Yoongi into his embrace “—I could never hate us. I could never hate you.”

Yoongi only hummed in agreement, hugging Namjoon back.

They remained in that position for a while before pulling apart and meeting each other’s gaze for the umpteenth time that night.

They were really soulmates.

“Will you marry me?” Namjoon asked out of the blue.

Yoongi laughed, taking the phone back. “Ask properly and I’ll consider it.”

“So, maybe?”

“Ask properly and I’ll consider it.” Yoongi patted Namjoon’s cheeks as he stepped away and took a seat on Namjoon’s chair.

“Hey, I have an idea,” Namjoon said. “Do you think your company would let us work together on this song?”

“Hm, maybe,” Yoongi said. “I’ll have to ask. Because I would love to work on this song with you.”

“I even have the perfect title for the song.”

“Really? So do I. Let’s say it together, and if it’s the same, then we really are soulmates and I’ll marry you.”

Namjoon smirked. “You better start planning our wedding then.”

Then the two counted from one to three.

“Spring Day.”

“I Miss You.”

Yoongi laughed, raising a brow. “Did you say I Miss You?”

Namjoon’s eyes looked side to side, as if trying to look as innocent as possible. “No, what? I d-didn’t say that. I said Spring Day. Just like you.”

Yoongi let out another laugh. “Okay, whatever you say. But the wedding planning is going to need to be put on a pause.”

“Aw, come on!” Namjoon pretended to whine, pulling Yoongi into his arms once more. “Let’s try another! What color am I thinking of?”

“Red.”

“Yes, that’s what I was thinking of exactly.”

“No, you were thinking of purple. You always pick purple.”

“See? If you weren’t my soulmate, you wouldn’t have known that!”

The two burst out into laughter, Yoongi pulling Namjoon’s face closer to his so their lips were brushing against one another. “I love you.”

Namjoon could only smile as their lips met once more.

They waited for many nights to be together once more.

The long winter of them being apart from another was finally over.

And their spring day had finally arrived.
